Did you get a bios update from Alienware within the last few months? The latest round of Bios's are protected meaning you can't go backwards anymore as they made changes to the micro code and don't want people rolling them back. Your stuck on the bios that you have.

Can you provide more details ? Like which BIOS, Hardware and steps that you performed (you should use the sleep bug else the Secureflash will not allow you to flash the Unlocked sBIOS mod). If you follow all the steps, there shouldn't be any problem.

IIRC the new BIOSes (A15 with Spectre and Meltdown, Plus I don't recommend to bother with those fixes at all. Not dismissing the Spectre and Meltdown implications or the seriousness but whoever want to exploit your system and use these is highly diminishing returns with extreme resources why would anyone use these processor flaws and hack a single target, just update the browsers and get to know which softwares you are installing, it all depends on the end user not the HW, I'm running custom ROMs since a decade almost and no issues at all with massive Safety net trip, Xposed mods etc) won't prevent the users to flash or rollback. That's for the newer AW17 R4-5 ranges which prevent the TS and force to use the XTU...because see this (AW17 - A15) and this (AW18 - A13). & This (Alienware TS block with new BIOSes)

    Apologies for late reply.

Edit : In case if the A15 is not allowing to flash the A14+ a.k.a unlocked A14 from this thread. Just rollback with the official AW14 BIOS from the Dell website and then perform the AW14+ modded sBIOS flash. It should allow you (Please let me know if this is the case, i.e the A15 -> A14+ not working, As I will update the thread by letting others know, thanks)

I haven't read anything like that.

What your probably referring to is that you can't alter the fan tables without the mx chips otherwise your scenario is news to me.

No, I didnt use "control" just alteration of fan tables, or more specifically the trigger points.

    4900mq is not XM.

Some people could overclock with the 4900mq as alienware had advertised that as well. Was hoping there was something i missed is all.

Yea i aware. I used wrong term. Again what was the software used to edit the fan tables? Just the regular hwinfo and i assume the laptops thermal driver would br required for this to happen.

There is no control, no software, its in the BIOS. Standard drivers relative to their components for operation.

You can flex the 4900mq but it cant hold anything over 47w for its turbo limit.

    IRL stuff, I apologize.

There will be a setting in the BIOS where you can alter the fan trigger points.

For my own personal Ranger , I cut the PWM wire for the GPU side and use the Compal EC to control the CPU fan within HWInfo. If you use the Compal EC you basically lose GPU fan speed altogether so under standard operation its not a viable solution. If the PWM wire is cut, then you are 100% all the time. Which is fine for me since I use headphones and dont hear it at all even with open ear headphones.

How did you flash the bios ?

You flashed it after it went to sleep right ?

    1)Close laptop (sleep mode option)
    2)Open laptop
3)Log back in , go to CMD run as admin and flash bios
    4) reboot

    That’s the steps I used when I flashed the AW 17 R1.

I put it to sleep, turned it back on, flashed the BIOS, and now am back at either 2, 5, or 8 beeps depending on what I do. When it turns to 8 beeps, I can usually fix it by reseating the 680M but then it goes to 5 beeps again

You gotta short the 2 ME pads. it is the same thing you are supposed to do when you flash to the A14+ unlocked bios. There setting are set to a machine with a different setup.

Shot the 2 pads and your good. If it does work it means u didnt short them. This fixed it me for me everytime. I reallt did want to put my 770m back in to get it to fix it and etc...

What makes you think its not? All Intel arch's ranging back to the C2Q days (or whatever you think is still relevant) are affected by it, a actual hardware patch is not expected until the 2019-2020 Intel/AMD arch's

You know the the whole spectre and exploited has nothing to do with the cpu model it self right? It is the PCH chip. me and etc. And no mine is not vulnerable. You ever run the scans made my microsoft to tell you if ur machine is vulerable? Microsoft keeps those up to date. The thread means people worry about things they cant control. If we don't know we all must be infected.

    Dear Strike:

Do we have solution to modify the bios on Ranger so that it won't do throttle because of power limit? I have just updated mine from 770m to a msi 1070. But when I play the game, the frequency of the graphic card always drop to 500 MHZ. Thus, I am thinking whether we could have a way to disable the power limit of the mxm port

Why yes of course we do. We have had one. But you have to use a chip programmer. That is thr easy part. The but the problem is that the power of a 100watt or higher might burn thr tracing om thr board. Or it is as simple as just upgrading the mxm slot (if you can micro-solder). I have 100 spare watts to use. on my system. I am looking for an alt way to power the gpu. Kinda of which i just got thr full fledged ome with the 12v rail connector.. otherthings to consside a major issue would be the gpu is right next to the cpu. The cpu is already heat maker. But more importantly the smd components on the mobo. We need a other exhaust port(the best solution) or a powerful fan. Adding fan in the optical drive will not help. It may short term but it will just blow hot air in places ir is not suppose to be. But that can also be solved by making a "air flow duct" using adhisive sided foam. Idk so many options. Wish I had a second unit to do it all with. My ranger is my gaming escape from the world. If yoy know what I mean

Then its a pass. v22 is where its at for me.

10-15 % performance is lost with the security patches and on older machines like ours thats pretty hard to stomach.
