mehh 20% for 300 is ok i guess

MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
I'll bet you it is more than 20% when overclocked even if the 260's are as well... Plus we can't really know there aren't any benchmarks from a laptop with the 280m's (that are from a 17"+ laptop at least)
-
butters if you over clock any of the cards the speed changes..
you cannot compare speed with a OC'd card...because you can overclock the 260's to 280's etc ... i hope you get what i mean. You wanna compare @stock -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
No I know, but I was just talking if 280's vs 260's both overclocked which is a factor you have to keep in mind... But I think even at base we will see higher than 20% performance boost (although 20% is pretty damn good)... However we can't know for sure as no "finished" system has been tested with Dual 280m's or 260m's
-
well right now there is a 10-15% difference in single cards
using the same chipset you can expect bot card being utilized the same.
i know SLI does double the performance but should get like a 80% increase from single to SLI.
so common sense will tell you 15-30% max
and a 260 OC'd vs a 280 OC'd with still be 10-15% (you just nulling out each others OC's)
hope i explained it ok, im tired -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
You did, Moo I understand this... Maybe I'm just getting too excited and hyping myself up too much, you are probably right... But I can hope!
-
dont worry lol you maxed out every thing
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Except, Ram which 8GB is ridonkulous, and the SSD... I don't really care much about boot times, even for apps... I would rather have the extra room, I really need it...
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Hey man what's your reserve (ebay) on your laptop? I really hope you get up to 1400-1500 in the next 9 hours... That is a great laptop, just bad timing with the new M17x... Are you willing to part with it for the ~1300 bid that it's at right now?
-
reserve is at 1500
-
if base difference is say 15% due in part from differences, then you exponentially increase the seperation from the OC of the 280 over the 260.
its akin to super charging a 6cyl engine to match a v8.
sure...you can add all things to get the v6 to get where the v8 is, but once you boost the v8, its all over for the v6 simply due to initial limitation differences... -
if you boost the v6 to v8 and the v8 to a v 10
its still a 2 cylinder difference
their bot going to over clock the same maybe even the 260 a little more ..... ill be the judge of that since im the only one getting a single 260 i know of
i hate money -
in cylinders, yes.
but in torque, horsepower, boring ability, cooling ability, etc...no.
it is not a simple matter of cylider offset - you have to take into account other factors which influence the overall outcome. -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
I also hate money... it makes everything so difficult.... But Moo seriously have a grad party! Open house, invite a few relatives, friends... basically anyone who might actually come.. Make signs and people will drop by... you will make money trust me

Also look at Dell's trade in options, they will basically trade in anything technological... See what you have available that you don't use and trade them to dell for credit!

Oh wow lol, they really don't give alot.. better off just selling stuff yourself... My bad -
woohoo, i can get 28$ for my PS2 with three controllers and about 20 games

Black is sooooo slick.
-
That silver is really growing on me , at first i wasnt so sure but after watching that video and seeing it in a real life setting the silver has alot more character to it then the black IMHO, plus i hate finger prints period
.
-
after seeing the vid, the lunar silver isn't nearly as ugly as i thought. in some ways, actually looks better. but i still have to go with the black. silver/white isn't my thing, not for a gaming rig like this anyway. -
here are more pics with the silver case

The decision is so hard. me wants black but the wifey wants silver. I have a discussion about is on a few latop gamer communities like www.lapgamer.com but id like to talk soomeone that saw them both. If i can't make a decision by oktober im taking black
-
Though both look just as good. SILVER FTW! I just like how in some lighting conditions it looks white. TBH you should totally deviate from your two initial options and get RED. We need someone on the forums to post a real red M17X photo or an unboxing vid of the red.
-
I went with silver on mine, and I have to say it really looks good. Every laptop out there is black, it's nice to have a two-tone laptop. Also, the lighting IMO looks a lot nicer with the silver chassis to complement it.
-
Silver all the way. The tTwo-toned exterior is gorgeous. The keyboard portion of the M17x looks bland to me though. Would have been nice if it would have been two-toned as well. Thank God for the keyboard lighting to make it less bland.
-
Yes. the keyboard area is bland. I don't mind though
I think silver and black come in tied for second behind RED! lol -
I went with the silver also this topic was very helpfull in making my decision thow. Its a hard choice to make
I bassed my decision on the dirty fingers on the black one...really hate that.
And the fact that there are so many black laptops, this one should stand out a bit because its a special thing. I also think the lighting will look better in the silver one. -
I have the black right now, and I wish..I could switch. Seeing silver pics makes me like the silver, but the black does look really good...Kinda want silver, but black is very very nice. Hard decision, don't make it too quickly.
-
I vote neither. +1 for Nebula Red
-
I got mine in Silver, I'm glad I got it I really like it. It's true fingerprints on the back is not a problem at all with this one.

if you get silver, wont any scratches that happen be not visible? as supposed to black where you would have a silver gouge on an otherwise black surface? this alone may push me to silver
-
-
Black is boring and as you can hear almost everyone has it
GET SILver -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Excellent first post Timyo haha
I agree, the black is a little boring for me, I prefer a 2 tone. As well as not having to worry about scratches. And it wont heat up sitting in the sun (just made that last one up but it is true haha) -
RED RED RED RED RED RED RED RED RED RED RED RED RED RED RED RED
RED -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Seconded! RED Although I have to say Black is fantastic... and fingerprints not really, high quality raw pics will make anything stand out ALOT... while in real life you can't really notice finger prints unless you specifically look for them
-
Black with red lid (only the lid) would be perfect
.
BTW paying $99 for a color is too much for my heart lol -
Ill be going black i think but the silver is tempting
-
Well I went with the silver. The 99 bucks on the red is nothing, but I just can't stand red. If it was blue I would have never needed to decide between colors.
Now the waiting begins... -
I was worried about the fingerprint conspiracy, which was going around on this forum. Happy to see someones post which says it's not so bad, else would have regreted the black choice. (I like both colors, only my girlfriend convinced me to take black).
-
I was some what against black from the beginning as well but after having it now the finger prints are almost non existent compared to what the photos make them out to be .
I wash my hands alot though so that may help as well.
-
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
I went with black.Looks more like the laptop was menth to be in those colours. Black looks better for one colour fx while silver looks better if you make rainbow coulour fx and the alienware head on the lid stands out more
-
i wash my hands

you live on a farm...I hope so haha
So far I am loving the silver on mine, AlienFX choice of green is winning so far
The keyboard is almost blinding to look at haha, which I am OK with -
I went with black, however, it does show fingerprints like anything black will. It cleans very easy though.
-
I went with silver. I kinda like the shiny and bright look I've seen in the pictures.
Almost went with black. -
Holy old thread revival!!
Red FTW! -
