Alienware M17x Black or Silver?

Actually i have a black one. I always had two tone laptops so now i wanted a full black one. But silver and red seem fine. All i know is all the people who owned silver, black and red prefer black.

 

The phat PS3 was the worst..

 

I'm actually considering selling my M17x so I can re-order it in Lunar Silver.

 

Go for two-tone black and silver.

I like both, but since I have had nothing but black laptops for so long I went with lunar silver. So that's what I would get.

 

If you take silver your laptop is two tone. Or he might mean buy a black one and change the lid to a silver one but im not sure what he means?

 

Silver is actually two-tone because the inner section of the laptop - screen bezel, palm rest, touch pad, etc. - are still black.

I have silver, and I love it. To me, it brings out a lot of the styling on the M17x that can sometimes be lost if you get it in black.

I am getting a replacement M17x due to my one being faulty even after repair, and I'm able to get a different colour.
I currently have the black and I really like it; but is the silver (or even red) worth considering?
Does anyone have the black and silver that could give their opinions and which one they like best?

i had silver R1. great and spacy. now i ordered my replacement R2 with black color just for the change and have the illusion of a new machine (otherwise would be the same externally)

I have a Black R1 that I'm getting ready to ship back.. I just received my R2 replacement which is Silver.... No comparison. The silver is WAYYYYYY nicer. I love it... I look at the black one in disgust now lol.

I think I'll get my next replacement in Red! By the looks of things, this display driver error I'm having doesn't look like its's going away.. I tried everything. Uninstalled & Reinstalled drivers. Updated BIOS... Nothing is working and it's doing it every few mins. Comp keeps freezing up and recovering.. I REFUSE to have a brand new replacement system taken apart.. Nebula Red, here I come!!!!

Mine is Silver and i love the honesty of the metal body in contrast to the plastic inside. Had a look at the black during PC Fair. I feel :-

Black- If you love the F117 Nighthawk.
Silver- If you want to look professional, brings out the metal look.
Red- If you wish to stand out, nothing beats red body with red back light and glowing red alien head!

Wish list - Brushed Brass like in the Dell Vostro. Or Orange like the Dell Covet, Just to stand out...

black looks so much better than silver. The alienfx lighting looks whack on a silver machine. And the red wow pay 100 dollars to make your laptop look worse, I wouldnt even take red if it was subtract 100.
My wishlist would be bullet proof depleted uranium casing. Shoot it with an ak-47 at close range and it wont even pierce it. might weigh like 40-50 pounds tho

 

An uranium chassis would be something Though 40-50lbs would kill my shoulders
Thankfully, the red is no additional cost on the NZ Dell site so it is still an option for me...but after reading the entire thread, some people have called it too flashy.

I lurve playing around with the lighting on this thing and it looks great against the black.

Although I must admit the yellow on red case is pretty sweet.

 

Certainly uranium can be a little porblematic. Specially when I had to flight a lot.
I think the wise decision from Dell's AW designer is to go carbon fiber... Under certain specifications it can also confront the AK-47 bullets mentioned by lasttop311...
Certainly will be less heavy, more strong and even beautiful textured...

silver if you don't want to see any fingerprints on your laptop.

black if you think everything being black is cool, even if every time you touch it, it becomes covered in fugly fingerprints. yes, that's right, fugly fingerprints.

 

Fingerprints are a pain in the , I learned my lesson with my black m11x. Red all the way!!

I'm not a fan of the Red, I've seen pics in every type of light, it's just not my thing. If I ever get another M17x, it'll be Silver.

 

Well now that I have mine I can safely say Im glad I went with the silver.

White is such an ugly 'color' for electronics.

Between black & silver, I'd go black. Neither are exactly revolutionary colors for laptops. I'd like a cobalt blue or something.

I was thinking of getting black again for my replacement but thought it would be a little boring. The two tone Silver and black is pretty classy/sexy and would be happy with it. However I'm going with red as the red aluminium on the M17X reminds me of Christmas and also a Ferrari

After having owned a few Macbook Pros in succession, I did get a little bored with silver. However after looking at a few photos from Crocs09 I think the combination of the silver and black is awesome, especially from the front when the silver 'sandwiches' the black grilles when the laptop is closed.

 

One of the reason why I picked up the silver is due to the fact that silver is not anodized painted as compared to the others.
