So guys, I have dual 4870's.

I currently have 10.5, does anybody recommend moving on to 10.8?

Any ideas for those with 4870's?

close your lid to put your computer to sleep. lift your lid back up to wake it from sleep. make sure "require password on wake up" in enabled.

do you have any issues when you do this with 8.763?

On Dells newest driver atm without the new Vbios installed.

When I leave my notebook for a while and the screen shuts off, I come back and normally just move the mouse or touch a key to bring back the screen. However now on these new drivers the screen just stays black and blank. I can't bring the screen back. So I have to do a hard reboot and then choose last known config that worked otherwise it will continually load into a BSOD msg before loading windows. Cheers.

I will probably be trying the new VBIOS soon as this should fix this problem.

Hmm.... Still they cant fix the drivers.. Its just funny i think.. But i dont say they arnt trying. This is my fourth laptop from dell in 2,5 years and i always have had issuses with drivers. To sad because if your sitting on a 4000 dollars laptop with monster hardware, what will that do if you cant get it running ok. Now i installed both from Ati and dell and they install, but games dont run fine on them.. Probably have to go back to the old ones again. Sad.

I installed the 10.8 driver off the ATI site. I restarted my computer and it's like it never happened. It is not noticing the 5870's in the device manager. What is wrong?

    It makes my display crush...
when i log on to windows...it appears a blue screen...
and i go to save mode....
and i update the display driver....
and its work, i can log on to my computer again....

But it seems that windows have uninstall the catalyst profile 10.8 and other driver....

The only things that remain is the ATI CATALYST INSTALL MANAGER....
and the CCC information shows that i still using the 10.8 driver...

So, what should i do next....???
install the catalyst 10.8 again and install the catalyst profile 10.8 ???

and how to install it correctly....???
    i have use the ccleaner...
but it seems that it doesnt completly remove the 10.8 or the previous driver 10.6

so tell me how to install 10.8 perfectly...

    Thanks...

Well, i forgot to uninstall the 10.6 so i just install the 10.8 driver with the profile...
    its appear success...
But whenever i sleep my laptop, it seems that it wont wake up again....so i've got to hard restart it....

and i uninstall all the ATI software....
    and using the Ccleaner,,,
then install the 10.8 driver and its profile again...
    and i restart the computer...

But its appear only makes a new problem...
and the second problem is that i could not log in to my laptop...
its seems the driver was crush...
    appear a blue screen..
so i go to the safe mode and i update the driver with windows do it for me....

and i manage solve my problem...
But, when i see the control panel, its seems that windows have uninstall all the profile and the catalyst....
The weird is that windows didnt uninstall teh ATI Catalyst Install Manager...

AND i open my system and the ATI folder shows that it has a folder of 10.6 and 10.8 should i deleted the folder....???

and when I open CCC, its appear that i still using the 10.8 version of CCC...

So, what should i do ??
    Install the 10.8 catalyst again?
    Install the 10.8 profile again?

and how to install it correctly so it wont cruch...???

Beware of that last statement. Myself and a few others at least are having one hell of a time reverting to pre-10.8. 10.8 screwed up CCC for us, and no matter what version of the driver we reinstall, CCC will no longer launch.

I think it is due to the mounds of crap they are leaving behind in the GAC (nearly 200 AMD/ATI DLL's in there *after* uninstalling Catalyst). But it is very hard to pinpoint the exact cause, and removing assemblies from the GAC by hand is immensely tedious.

Interesting, I just unplugged my M17xR2 from the wall, while it was running with these drivers and it froze. Was getting BSOD's on restart, wouldn't boot into windows, had to go into safe mode and remove 5870's from device manager.

you may need the latest vBIOS for your 5870 and seems like your drivers are in bad shape now. use driver sweeper or driver cleaner stuff to get rid of all the residues and do a clean 10.8 dell install.

You don't have to boot into safe mode and remove anything. Next time, just hit F8 and boot from the last known good configuration.

Note that once you install CCC from 10.8 (both the ATI/AMD release and the Dell release), you might have a very hard time reverting to an earlier version. Uninstalling 10.8 and reinstalling a prior release will still be using 10.8's CCC.

Driver Cleaner and Driver Sweeper from safe mode does not remedy the problem.

This is what I ended up doing since I couldn't uninstall Catalyst from the programs menu:

    1. Device manager
    2. right click on each card and uninstall (remove driver data)
    3. CC Cleaner and Driver Sweeper
    4. Restart in Safe Mode and re-do step 3
    5. Restart normal mode
    6. install new drivers

Is that good enough or do I need to re-do it all over again and uninstall Catalyst this time?

    That is not sufficient, no.

To clarify, these steps are not sufficient to fully remove CCC 10.8. It works for previous releases though.

STOP MESSING WITH THE DAMN THING

the base of your issue is that you are trying to sole problems that a don't exist or b you don,t have to knowledge to listen to our explaination on howto solve them

first trop trying to use the damned AMD OEM driver it's not made for your system (thank's dell for it) and use the dell 10.8 driver

installing a driver in safe monde LOLWUTTTTTT drivers are not loaded in safe mode and won't load this is what safe mode is

    R259589 wich is 10.5 and won't reinstall over 10.8

the sleep resume issue apear when you don,t install corectly a pre 10.8 driver

the bios has nothing to do with this don't try to update the system you might has well brick it

That's exactly what it has to look like when you have AMD? ATI? 10.8 Cats Installed, also yes it's normal that it displays your cards as 5800's. As the 5800 drivers seem to be all the same for all 5800 cards, and not like Dell, escpecially designed for each card and hardware/subid used for example 5850 and 5870.

Your system should be good with these drivers. But don't forget to update your VBIOS now, to get Sleep working with the 10.8 drivers. But i would actually recommend the Dell Beta Drivers 10.8 as granyte said before. You will find everything to know in the link below.

    Please read instructions carefully:

some registry issue it hapens every time they add new feature to the driver and boom we are stuck and can't go back
last driver that did this was 10.3 and befor that switching from 9.12 to 10.1 also did it but there was some work around

but ati tray tool still can overlock the GPU and at worst am clock tool will be patched soon

but flashin the gpu is not bad and quite stable even better if you know what your doing you can enhance powerplay

also we are lucky that version is free of almost any but so even if we are stuck there is only minor desagrement
