I experienced a lot of issues with the campaign today, and it really upset me. I spent like 3 hours playing and then all of a sudden I run into a hell of a lot of bugs and can't get passed them without crashes. NPC's were disappearing and all I could see were floating guns, etc. Such a shame... For multiplayer, I experienced some sound issues, but that's it. No crashes or disconnects, yet...

I'm going to try the campaign again tonight and see if I can figure out how to get around the bugs without causing a crash/freeze.

    EDIT: Here's another bug, LOL.

So far Ive only tried it in Optimus and i'm using stock vbios and latest nvidia drivers. I have frame rate limited to 61 in game using gametime.maxvariablefps 61 as I find it has less tearing/stuttering when I limit the fps using the user.cfg rather than using vsync. With ultra settings i'm getting between 37-61 but averages out around 50ish. High settings I get 'almost' 61 constant, minus a few drops down to 55 at times. Game runs smooth on ultra though even with fps drops. I ended up turning off the 'showfps' command because I see no need to worry about it as long as its running smooth.

I do still see the odd stutter on some servers, mainly when in vehicles. Hopefully a new driver release will stop this. I noticed they are working on a patch to stop the server disconnect problems too not that i've seen this too much myself.

Yeah, BF4 uses the CPU like crazy, more so than BF3. I'm seeing like 74C after a re-paste. Before I was seeing 85 or above, easy. It's "normal," for now. Hopefully with some updates/patches this will get better.

Mine reaches around 76 though I've already repasted mine so it's expected that I get lower temps.

My not so fancy pancy 940 running at about 80W now go to about 85 deg. For me having great cooling and average temp during gameplay is above 76, my CPU is pretty much working 24/7. Average temp drops of course while waiting on gamestart etc.

I predict a new driver coming out soon boosting performance as they seem to be behind AMD across the board fps wise. [IMG]

I don't have an alienware but I do have a clevo with 4700mq and 770m.

Has anyone playing on windows 8 crashed in the campaign? I'm beginning to think these crashes I'm having is because of win 7.

    With the 770m I'm getting:

    Low: 35
    High: 50
    Avg: 42-45.

    Ultra with 4x AA

Now if only they fixed the server crashing issues :(

Have you disabled WMM in advanced settings of your broadcom card? Try a ping test at pingtest.net (or similar). If your getting packet loss this will be the cause of your rubber banding and disabling WMM resolves it. I saw a post yesterday from someone saying that dell knew of the issue and are working on getting an updated driver

    Yeah 4x

    7970M CF

    Ultra without AA.

Constant 60 FPS Time to time +/- 1-3 FPS
Very Sporadic Drops to 40+ FPS during very heavy rendering scenes ( singleplayer, outdors ) rain, loads of intensive lighting. I can see some areas are less optimized than others.

But as i said other than that 60FPS constant....

Wow disabling WMM restricts my speed from 110Mbps down to 20Mbps according to speedtest.net. It did fix the rubberbanding effect but thats a big speed drop, isit possible to make a shortcut to enable/disable it? would be nice if a macro button can enable/disable it.

It definitely runs much smoother now. I'm surprised that made such a difference. They need to fix their installer...

EDIT: I've run into some issues with sniping. I will hide behind a rock or something and try to snipe (while scoped) and I keep hitting the rock or whatever I'm hiding behind, even though my line of sight is clearly open and clear. I've literally got to break cover to be able to shoot... I suppose that's better than what Snipers do in BF3 - hide in rocks, LOL.

I actually had to delete all the cab files in my directx redist folder in the game installer to be able to install the game at all -- I kept getting an error about them being unsigned that prevented me from progressing in installation. Not sure if that is only a problem for people who downloaded it via Origin. Was kinda sucky after waiting 7 hours for it to download :D

Thanks for the tip, hopefully the directx stuff that came with the game still lives somewhere on my machine so I can try this tonight. I also want to check for DPC latency (thanks for reminding me in the other thread!) -- I always do this and kinda forgot so far with my AW17. I have noticed sometimes the sound in BF4 stutters, which can be caused by this (although I tend to blame the game).

And re: sniping, last night I was watching my bullets disappear into people's heads without actually damaging them. I get the feeling bullets don't display right (or maybe it's a draw distance bug like in BF3, where the game drew distant people but not rocks and things xD). Makes it really hard to gauge the distance. I feel like BFBC2 had more consistent bullet drop behaviour... but sniping was way too easy without sway :D

weird about the direct x issue. I installed both the beta and release without any sort of issues that I remember. As to the bullets disappearing into people's head, could it have something do with the netcode? I've seen some pretty crazy stuff happen like getting killed when I'm well behind cover and such. Hope it gets fixed soon.

When it comes to the sniping.
Lets be honest. In real life your scope would be at least 10 cm above the pipe.
If the scope is clear, the pipe might not be.
BUT if you are standing very close to the rock, AND the pipe allows you to stil aim, it should be clear. :D

I was definitely clear from cover... It's a bug. It could be a map issue, too, which is more likely.

EDIT: So, after this DirectX install, I'm seeing 60 FPS on Ultra. Before, I was seeing like 45 to 50. It really made a difference...

If I enable V Sync in BF4 I get horrible stutter, but with it off the game runs perfectly, anyone else similar?

Try turning off vsync and create a user.cfg file and use the gametime.maxvariablefps 60 command. This limits the framerate without having to use vsync which in turn get rid of the tearing, it worked for me anyway

How to create user cfg file in BF4 to load settings on startup

    [SOLVED]
I just bought the game this weekend and installed it.

First when i started the game the would crash saying Battlefield has stopped responding, A little google later i realized i need Nvidia 331 or higher for the game to run. Upgraded and tried again, did not work. Kept looking and found that my adblock on chrome was messing with BF4 so disabled the adblock. Tried again did not work, uninstalled and did a fresh install did not work. While i still have other games that work i don't know why BF4 won't work.

    Any suggestions ?

Edit : turns out my Norton was blocking some content thinking its malware, but did not notify me. I fixed it

    Hey guys,

After installing the correct version of Direct X, the game stuttered less but I still had rubberbanding (it was worst when driving vehicles). I read about WMM, and was going to give that a go, but then I found this and it sounded vaguely familiar: Windows 7 & Core Parking .... a *better* way to Turn It OFF .... | Cakewalk Forums. I may have done this in the past for my old system as well.

Basically the theory is that Windows 7 does a bad job managing cores, and coupled with Battlefield 4 (which is apparently optimised for multicores) you get this weird choppiness as windows decides to 'park' cores that are actually in the middle of doing stuff for the game. Someone was also suggesting that you might see a slight temp decrease as a result of switching this off, but I haven't verified that.

I disabled core parking via the registry for all my power profiles and played for several hours last night completely stutter and rubberband free (a completely different experience!). Try it and see if it helps you. My game runs perfectly now (well, except for the sound bug but that's not my alienware's fault), even with my power profile set to allow speed step to throttle up and down, I don't get any performance issues during play.

From what I can tell it's not a feature that is useful at all for the purposes of a high performance gaming laptop :)

Just an update, after the 1gig patch my crashes have disappeared and the game seems to be running much better. Wish DICE didn't force servers to have such low ticket numbers to be able to track stats though. Makes it harder to get decent kill streaks. :(

Upgraded my 780 GPU drivers to 331.82 and i'm seeing roughly 5-10 fps higher playing bf4 and the fps doesn't seem to jump around as much. This makes up for the panic which ensued seeing BSOD after the driver install... thankfully it all came back on fine, I could not be bothered with an exhaustive windows rebuild

I probably did something wrong, but the game runs fluently at the Ultra preset with Draw distance = 120 @ 1080p. My specs should be in my signature. I have not experienced a single issue, apart from long loading time.

However, I think the maxed out Draw Distance gives the game a "fish eye" look, does anyone else experience this?

Looks like performance is on the rise. I'm glad. EA shouldn't have rushed development. How the game performs now is how it should have performed upon release.

Hey all. Had my 17 a week got it all updated and installed bf4. Warmed up on the campaign the gfx are amazing with the 780 :) Went to start multiplayer installed PB but whenever I join a server I crash out within 10/15 seconds. The are was patched from origin with the update but never had it before. I'm stumped really. Is it that unstable. I'm not reading anything in console like a PB kick. Just died back to server screen? I'm guessing I can't be the only one just wondered who else?

    Let's share about today patches....

net code problem.... well, still need more time I guess.... :D overall now I can play all map without 5-10 minutes crash or kicked into to desktop..... So far..... but my system still "always" freezing at the loading screen during quiting the game. And still can't kill bf4.exe using task manager everytime i got a freeze...... FPS slightly improved.

well, at least I don't losing my stats during game..... I can spent more time with this game during end years holiday now..... ^^

Getting terrible rubber banding and stuttering. Fully upto date everything. Tested on multiple connections. Reinstalled. Ran the performance test my fps has dropped. The last two patches have snookered it for me. Was superb before those.
