I am going to upgrade my ram and would like to know what is the top of the line. I have looked into the corsair vengeance and it looks very good. It has cas 9 timing 9-9-9-24. Is the best out there? Application will be for future overclocking.

Just my input, but I don't really see the point of upgrading your ram, your sig shows you have already upgraded it anyways. Honestly I wouldn't think it would make a huge difference especially since you have a SSD anyways. If you have the cash you can use the corsair vengence, I have seen people use 1833mhz ram before, maybe even possible to use 2133mhz ram. I bought cheap CAS 10 ram myself for mine, cheap enough so I can't complain. I have seen somewhere that you can flash your ram to run faster too, might be worth a shot anyways.

Just wondering what your going to be needing the ram for?

I do AI / natural language processing research. I need the additional ram for data parsing. This type of work usually takes my weeks at a time. That's the main reason for my laptop purchase I don't really game much but I need processing power in a portable device. Also can anyone verify a higher speed then 1600 MHz working on the R4.

32GB (4 X 8GB) Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz is the maximum confirmed by engineering.

1866mhz ram works, but your not really gonna see much of a boost even with the higher speed versus what you have now. I would just hold off and save for a 3960xm. That would probably be the best upgrade for data parsing (if you can manage to keep the temps down).

I thought the 3940xm was the largest to fit on the G2 socket.

your right, my bad. 3940xm is the best processor you can buy. It will cost you can arm, a leg, and a new mortgage though. :(

The Extreme CPU seems rather pointless to me, though I could be wrong. I have my 3720QM "overclocked" to run at 3.8Ghz on 4 cores/8 threads, but it gets throttled at 85C which means it can only sustain a 3.4/3.5 Ghz load. Are the Extreme CPUs not throttled like that?

To my understanding XM processors allow you turn of that issue, but additional cooling is required.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But can't you buy 1866Mhz RAM, and underclock it to tighten up the timings?

    Hello,

I have a RAM Memory upgrade question...

For my new DELL ALIENWARE M17X - R4 laptop... will this RAM Memory work well???

    CMSX16GX3M2A1866C10 - Scan.co.uk

It is an Alienware M17X - R4 running Windows 8 (64 bit Pro) as the OS.

It currently has 16GB but I want to upgrade it to 32GB for Video and Picture editing purposes and the occasional gaming too! :D

Would this RAM Memory work well or is there better out there?
    CMSX16GX3M2A1866C10 - Scan.co.uk

    Thank you.

Corsair Vengeance are one of the best rams out there from my experience. They would work well with the M17x R4. 32GB is a lot of ram but hey, the more the merrier. Now if you're adding them in with your existing rams make note that they will only go as fast as the slowest ram cards that are in there. So you may not get the full speed of these ram memory if your existing ones are slower.

You don't need it for the gaming part! As stated you may just want to go for all four sticks to get the full speed or use thaiphoon burner to edit the original set to the highest speed, just make sure you thoroughly error test them before using them for serious work.

The kingston is CL9 so i guess i'll stump up the cash for that to squeeze the most juice from the upgrade.

    hi

I currently have this in the back 2 slots of my m17

    Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX

    can i also use this

    Kingston HyperX 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 Laptop Memory HyperX Plug n Play Model KHX16S9P1K2/16

    under the keyboard slots?

    Meaning both sets of pair? 8GB (2 x 4GB) and 16GB (2 x 8GB) = 24 GB

    thanks in advance
