I just baught crysis 2 and I read the back of it... Says
BEST PLAYED ON ALIENWARE
Lol. How much did Dell pay
-
-
$1 and a M17x R2 anything else would be unacceptable
-
Hahaha......Dell probably paid quite a bit for that one......
But even then, none of the notebooks will really be able to max the game out. Maybe their desktops will. A loaded R2 will probably play it decently on high settings.
Good catch on that though. Didn't think Dell would bother with that. -

Wait until you get to the part with bloom effects. With Xrossfire enabled it's flicker city!!!......lame. The link I've provided below addresses Xrossfire/SLI flickering issues that have NOT been resolved.
MyCrysis • View topic - Crysis 2 SLI is causing insane flickering. -
Amd released Cap4 they are suppose to improve crossfire performance
-
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
Walmart around me doesn't have it yet.
Maybe tomorrow.
How is the graphics and fps improvement over the last two? -
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
I already installed Cap 4. It doesn't work. -
Have you tried it with the Catalyst 11.4 Preview or the 11.2 official drivers?
I havent received the game yet so I havent tested anything. -
Damn I was hoping for better performance guess not lol
-
I get the same thing. Hopefully a fix will reveal itself soon as I was really looking forward to playing this game.
Edit: I wouldn't say the game is unplayable, since if you disable Crossfire, it runs surprisingly well. -
Yeah flicker heaven! lmfao..
One map the flickers "yellow", another "white" another "black" its insane... The bloom.. my eyes! i stopped playing after 10 minutes... head started to hurt because of that.
FPS is crap because we cant customize graphic options... Basically theres, high, very high, gamer, and so on :/ -
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
It's fantastic...I'm averaging 58-59 FPS with Vsync at Extreme Settings with Xrossfire Enabled.....but with serious flickering in outside open areas.
Without Xrossfire Enabled the 5870M does a fantastic job in very high settings.
I paid for Xrossfire and would like to use it instead of putting stress on one card and my 740QM.
-
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
I can't believe Crytek didn't address SLI/Xrossfire performance while compiling the code for Crysis 2. I'd also think that AMD & Nvidia received a copy of the final build to prepare for this games release.
I'll just have to play it for eerf<< in 3D on my 3.55 CFW PS3 until a fix can be provided...lol -
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
I don't have it yet, but I had a leaked version where the flickering was horrid. What I did was rename Crysis.exe to RIFT.exe. It honestly worked. Someone try it and let us know.
-
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
I can't find Crysis.exe
Edit: I did find Crysis2.exe.bak...but changing this makes no difference. I also did a search from the start menu...no crysis2.exe
Edit 2: I did fing Crysis2 in the bin32 folder. But renaming it causes the game to not launch. -
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
Seems like the same file structure. Is there still a bin64 folder with Crysis.exe Crysis64.exe, or something similar? Try one of those.
-
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
It must be 32bit only.
-
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
That sucks. Sorry I couldn't help. I've been anticipating this game. Glad I didn't pre-purchase it. That single 6970M is looking more and more appealing, huh?

I'm not trying to be biased here towards the R2, but I'd choose the R2 over the R3 any day of the week. This is all coming from some one who is on his 3rd R2. The first two were defective and the second one was ruined by the Dell on site idiot. The 3rd one is Perfect!!! I've also run into all the threads online about the paint chipping problems plaguing the R3...lol. I'd go into a frenzy if my beloved R2 started chipping.
When bloom is in effect the screen flickers like crazy because of the Xrossfire, at the same time the game runs silky smooth at extreme settings. Once this issue is addressed there's really no reason to look past the R2.
I do fancy the HDMI-IN port of the R3....but I have an 120hz Alienware Optx 23" 3D Gaming monitor and a 55" 240hz 3D LED Sammy to hold me over. The reason it is so important to me that Crysis 2 runs well with Xrossfire enabled is because I see this as another way of benchmarking.
Sorry for ranting I just want my Xrossfire to work as it should
-
I've got to wait until Friday as thats when its released in the UK. I pre-loaded it from Steam last night. Hopefully they will sort the x-fire out soon
-
Im not liking the sound of this at all. I have this on pre-order from Amazon (due to arrive on Friday) and if its going to flicker all the time I would rather cancel and wait until they get it sorted. Ive been looking forward to this game for ages and it has to be perfect or it will ruin my gaming experience.
I suspect the pending ATI drivers will address these issues since they are are already widely reported - but when are the new ones released? -
I have a solution. Play it on ps3 or xbox if you cant wait for the fix to come.
-
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
True. I just have this 'thing' about playing shooters on consoles with a controller. Doesn't bother some people. Bugs the heck out me personally.
-
Same here - I can't stand using controllers for FPS.
-
Can someoane with M17x R3, post some benchmarks on Crysis 2 DEMO ?
-
There's a benchmark in the demo ?
-
It just has 2 multiplayer levels & its a demo. So wouldn't be good to benchmark.
-
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
Crytek(cry-tom) has now acknowledged the thread so hopefully a real fix is on the way...I'm suprised AMD/Nvidia isn't all over this....Alienware needs to get on this too because their plays best on Alienware logo is on the backside of the case.
MyCrysis • View topic - Crysis 2 SLI is causing insane flickering.
I have this game on PS3, but to me it looks like a console game on my 55" 240hz 3D LED Sammy. I can even see Jaggies here and there. But when I run it at very high or extreme on my M17x R2 the atmosphere/enviornment is much more immerse. I also have a hard time playing without my Razer Mamba & G13. -
How is the 3d effects? I want to get it for my ps3 to play on my 58" samsung plasma.
-
I dont know how well it is on PS3, but they already dropped the price on Xbox 360 to $39.99. Walmart was giving people $20 back to whomever paid the original $59.99. Kinda says something about the console version........
I am sure it will look a bit better on PS3, given it has better graphics. But I tried the demo on 360, and it looked like DX7 graphics. lol. I would try the demo version on PS3 first from PSN (if its available) before you buy it.
Just gonna stick to the PC version. Crysis should have been kept exclusively to PC. -
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
I think they did a good job with 3D on the PS3. The only thing that bothered me was that in 3D I found the motion blur to cause nauseousness and I also thought that in 3D the game was a little too dark at times...
They certainly added depth perception....It's good but not Step UP 3D good.
When I purchased Crysis 2(PC) at Bestbuy they gave me a 10.00 gift card. I'm also a Silver Member so my loyalties lie with Bestbuy. The PS3 version was eerf<< that's why I'm not overly pissed about Xrossfire not working right...but by the weekend I expect an official fix. -
With a game like this, I would assume they will roll out a fix real soon. We can only wait and see....
-
did anyone try it with cf disabled to see if its better?
-
Yes, with Crossfire disabled the "issues" go away. Unfortunately, it runs slower too....
-
To reduce the motion blur on ps3 change your settings from 1080p to 720p . It's being caused by upscaling apparently.Hope it helps you
-
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
Thanks for the suggestion. At the moment I'm more concerned with getting my M17x R2 to properly use Xrossfire with the PC version. I only play the PS3 version because:
1. Can't get Xrossfire to work.
2. It was free -
I'll bet it still runs better on the M17x with xrossfire disabled, played on "high". I'm running about 50 fps and haven't seen any slowdowns.
-
This might help all of you having problems quite a bit
http://www.fpstime.com/2011/03/crysis-2-console-commands-to-customize-your-graphics/ -
I can say that at least with 1 videocard it works amazingly well... Just depressing cant use 2 of them
to conjured: apparently none work... When you use them, its going to say unknown command etc etc.... Crytek locked all cvars and whatnot -
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
In the AMD forums some members are reporting that you can play only the campaign with working Xrossfire enabled if you do not update Crysis 2. I just uninstalled and am in the process or re-installing.....I'll report back to confirm.
-
This may be off topic but can someone tell me if I can purchase this game from Direct2Drive (they have 20% off currently) and activate the game on EA download manager. As all my games (from EA) are over there.
-
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
YaaaaaaaY it does work GPU 0 at 90% and GPU 1 at 70%. No Flickering at all!!! You have to disable Wifi during the install when it tries to update. I still expect a REAL fix by the time I beat the campaign!!!
-
Buying from Direct2Drive is like buying a digital copy of the install disc and the cd key. So yes, you can activate it on EADM.
-
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
Get the retail version!! You can not manipulate the files and still play like the retail disc version!! -
Thanks for the reply guys. Guess I will have to wait for a price drop for the retail version. $60 + tax is a little too high.
-
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
In the states the retailers are giving 10.00 - 20.00USD off the MSRP. -
Not in Canada
$20 off would be amazing. -
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
lame....I'm in Anchorage...No sales tax here and we can price match the lower 48 at Bestbuy to avoid the shipping they add to all the prices here. If I was you I would check with BestbuyCA. I didn't know they gave 10.00 back until the time of purchase. I got my M17x R2 new with warranty for 1600ish with no taxes...granted they made a few mistakes like RGB LED screen and Blu-ray was not suppose to be included in my config but after 2 previous defective R2's the Blu-ray drive and RGB screen found their way to my 3rd Perfect unit.
Now that I have found a temporary fix from the AMD forum members I can enjoy my M17x-R2 and Crysis 2.
-
Anyone seen the flickering reported with the 4870 crossfire or is it strictly on the 5870's? I've picked up the game but honestly haven't had a chance to try it out. Not to concerned as long as they address it with a fix in the near future, was just curious if this was a flicker issue specific to the 5870's or affects 4870's as well.
-
Apparently its a problem with most crossfire and sli set up, there is a whole thread on it here
Renaming crysis2.exe to bioshock.exe, Shift2.exe, rift.exe or crysis.exe seems to helps to get some crossfire scaling although I haven't tried it yet myself
