I can confirm.
I've renamed Crysis2.exe to Bioshock.exe and the flickering is finally gone.

It has to do with the way NVIDIA profiles games. Like if you rename rift.exe to rift2.exe you can get the "default" settings for 3D and actually get PROPER 3D in rift...Kinda makes it easy to test other profiles, IMO.

I will say this. The 3D in this game is 10x better than any other game I've tried in 3D. Even 100% NVIDIA 3D Supported games. Still downloading on my laptop but on my desktop doing surround-sound 3D it looks freaking AWESOME :)

I'm getting 40+ on 1920x1200p on Hardcore, no flickering single player. If you change your graphics options during gameplay Hardcore mode suddenly drops to 30FPS. So the game has to be on highest settings before you enter single player mode. Have not tried multiplayer yet. don't feel like getting owned.

I figured something out. your FPS will double somethings when you change your resolution during single player gameplay(1920x1200 to 1920x1080), you can move your mouse around and the FPS will stay at 40+. then as soon as you zoom your gun, the FPS will drop in half and stay that way. I would have thought Crytek figured all this out before they released the game. how disappointing. it's all about the consoles these days.

I have seen a constant 59 to 60 fps with advanced setting. I removed the forced update that changes the names of the settings back to what they were in the demo to get rid of the multi-gpu flickering that came with the forced update. My FPS is about the same with extreme setting. I really can't tell the difference between advanced and extreme(hardcore<--before forced update). I have noticed that once I got to the part where the earthquakes and dust is along side the water before all the cell checkpoints are my frames dropped to 40ish and stayed.

It comes out today in the UK. I'm going to play tonight as pre-downloaded from Steam. How can I know if Steam have applied the update? I've got a very similar set up to you Skyrunner. Cheers!

Well I got it today and the FPS and flickering are terrible - SUCH as disappointment it was released in this state. "PLAYS BEST ON ALIENWARE" ---- loooooooooooooooool Rubbish!

I installed with the forced update and ran the game using the highest resolution and extreme settings. I will uninstall later and follow the advice in this thread. meh

Thats so annoying! I'm been waiting for this game for ages. I can't believe they didn't sort out CF or SLI problems. I thought this game would really be designed for dual graphic cards.

I've pre-loaded from Steam so might not be able use the fix of unistalling it and then not doing the update. Will have to waiy until after work tonight to try it

Bought the game earlier today. It said it was the limited edition copy.
Not sure if there was even any other editions.

Just finished installing it and completing the update to version 1.1
Flickering like crazy. Pretty laggy at maxed out settings.
Getting around 20 odd FPS.

Not smooth enough to my liking so I have set it to HIGH and renamed the exe to bioshock.exe like it has been recommended to counter the flickering issues at the moment.
Much better now and enjoying gameplay at around 40+ FPS.

Currently running on the modded 11.4 mobility drivers with CAP4 installed.
I can't wait till some newer drivers are released with better CAP Profiles as well. Hopefully a little more performance boost and no flickering.

For flickering resolution, try installing Radeon Pro and creating a profile for Crysis 2. Select Tweaks tab and force XF profile to use Bioshock. Then disable Vsync Control in the same tab. Then run the game by right clicking the profile and clicking Play. This has made the game very playable for me. Averaging about 45 FPS.

I found this info here and didn't see it directly quoted on this thread:

MyCrysis • View topic - Possible Crossfire Flicker Fix

Works for Steam as well. It basically is the same as renaming the filename. I do hope there is an official fix though because I think my rig should perform much better. I moved the settings down to High so it would be more playable.

I've also noticed several glitches in the game like not being able to select semi automatic fire in certain situations and slow responsiveness to certain keys like jump.

Interesting link. I might be the only one who thinks the PC looks best in those comparison pictures. I think the lighting looks more real. The sun is shining through the trees and you don't even see that in the 360 or PS3. The FPS was probably 20 though.

Russ rename the file to bioshock.exe and reduce the game settings to "High". It has made a massive improvement and will work as a quick fix until they get it sorted (you can still apply tha patch).

Cheers Reborn for your suggestions :D

So I ran across this method in another forum and gave it a shot. It worked! No more flickering and I am averaging 40fps at 1920 x 1200 in Extreme.

If you have already installed the game this method will work too. You do not need to uninstall.

If you have the 1.1/1.2 patch applied this method will work also.

Go into your User/Saved Games/Crysis 2 folder and delete everything.

Download Radeon Pro: http://www.radeonpro.info/en-US/Downloads/

Create a new profile for Crysis 2 and under the "Tweaks" tab tell it to force the Bioshock2 crossfire profile.

Once you apply the change, just right click and press Play.

The Radeon Pro profile method has been discussed before, but deleting your Crysis 2 folder under Users was something I had not tried before. That appears to be the trick.

Voila! Works like a champ.

Edit: This works for the Steam version too. That's what I am using.

It seems to be split, some people can get it to work without that step, but it only worked this way for me. I think it has something to do with starting the game and setting your video configuration before running the BioShock 2 profile. Just thought I would share...

Well the flickering prevented me from getting too far into the game so I guess blowing away the saved games doesn't matter. Wonder if there is any significant difference between using Bioshock 2 profile vs. Bioshock. I'm currently using Bioshock.

Steam automatically tries to apply the update. The update is 1.1.

You loose FPS by using this method as compared to the standard flickering method...but I gues some Xrossfire is better than none.

Bioshock.

to play SP without flickering don't install 1.1 update for the retail disc version. I've noticed a difference in graphic effects between 1.0 and 1.1, like lighting, bloom and motion blur.

Radeon Pro does FPS measuring in game. Looks just like Fraps. It's in the installation wizard but you can also find it in settings. I had Radeon Pro and Fraps going at the same time. They were fairly close but were off sync most of the time. Didn't notice if one was consistently higher or lower than the other.

I have the Steam version so I think 1.1 gets installed automatically. So I'm stuck with the Radeon Pro work around. I guess I can try Bioshock 2 or a newer game XF profile to see if FPS increases. Although it would be really nice to have a Crytek patch instead.

Must just work better with the single GPU, so many R2's having issues would make you want to upgrade

Maybe alienware purposely paid for Crysis 2 to not use CrossfireX or SLi so they can make the M17xR3 look better in performance than the R2. That R3 is looking really good right about now.

Forget that!!! My motherboard makes a eeeeeeeeee sound when turned off and connected to the AC adapter at the same time. It doesn't do it when the unit is in sleep mode or turned on. It's really annoying. So I called AW tech. They said that the parts needed to fix this problem are:
1. Indicator Panel(Incase of damage during repair to avoid gaps)
2. Motherboard(out fo stock)
3. (2)5870M with Xrossfire cable(out of stock)
4. Palm Rest(Incase of damage during repair to avoid gaps)

I demanded all NEW parts because in the past on a previous M17x R2 I was sent a refurbished secondary 5870M that was defective.

Today I was sent a email offering a maxed out M17x R3(w/6970M) because the wait for all the parts would be over 3 weeks.

I chose to wait.

I've seen the M17x R3 first hand and while it is nice ...I could immediately feel the cost cutting measures that went into manufacturing compared to the quality of the R2. I choose to have an anodized aluminum housing free of chips, touch panel and 2 graphics cards to distribute the load.

This issue is just one of the temporary cons of having a Xrossfire config. But at times when it gets quiet here and I want to play Crysis 2 in it's default configuration I do think for a split second "man it would be nice to have a 6970M until a official patch can be released".

I think as Alienware fazes out the 5870M Xrossfire config we'll start to see more offers to replace R2's with R3's as long as customers demand new parts .

I actually have that same issue on my R2.....it makes a "squealing" kinda noise like capacitors or something when turned off plugged into the AC Adapter.

Dell also offered to replace my R2 with a fully loaded R3 when I had one of my Solid State drives fail. When i mean loaded, I mean, LOADED with everything comparable in my sig. But I refused as well. I paid way too much for this notebook to get something sub par to my notebook.

I just hope they can release a fix (driver or patch) for this game so I can enjoy it.

Did you ever isolate what is making the eeeeeeeeee sound when the unit is off with the AC adapter plugged in? Hopefully in 3 weeks I'll get the parts and can just change exactly what I need to.

I wonder if I can keep the Palm rest & indicator panel without having to send anything back? I already have a new magnesium upper case still in the box from a previous repair>exchange. Alienware must have figured out that it's just cheaper to replace Xrossfire units with the R3 to save money in the long run.

My R2 is special to me because besides the eeeeee sound it is perfect internally and externally....no gaps or bulging keyboards or panels....PERFECT!! I also remember the time when I had a G51GX, G71GX and G73JH(with annoying problems..some problems were never resolved) and reading about how Awesome the M17x R2 was from Joker5150 in the Asus forums....and now I own one :D

I really need a suggestion right now.
The game was working perfectly until I restarted it.
Now I am getting a flickering issue which makes it unplayable.
I am using QX9300 and 280M SLI.
Any suggestions?

Well, I actually never got that squealing problem fixed...

One tech thought it was the graphics cards (which I doubted, because the system was freakin off......lol), so they sent me to brand new 5870s and a new control cover, but obviously it wasnt the problem. It did fix some issues in games though...... I believe its the motherboard that makes the noise, because when the system is off, the EC board (which is on the mobo) is still on technically, to illuminate the Alienhead if it is charging, blinking, etc. But I dont want my system ripped apart for something small like this, as much as it annoys me.

They sent the cards and cover seperate, and they did not have a return label for the cover. So I called them to ask for one because I did not want to get charged for it, and they told me it did not need to be returned. It was better for me anyways, instead of wasting gas to drop it off at Fedex.

My R2 is pristine as well. The only way I would allow them to exchange my untHE it is with another comparable unit with equal or better performance and build quality.

They R3 they offered me is no comparable unit. A 2820QM is not an XM CPU, and the screen is not RGB or 1200P. not to mention the loss of a video card. And the plastic casing vs my aluminum? Heck no......They still had the dual ssds and double the RAM, but that doesnt make up for the rest.

Everyone is experiencing the issue with CrossfireX/SLI. Try some of the previous methods posted here, like renaming the .EXE to BIOSHOCK.EXE.

I actually called EA about this issue because I did not pick up my preorder and got a refund instead. I asked them if they had plans to fix this issue with multiple graphics cards, and here was their response:

"Yes, we are aware of the CrossfireX/SLI flickering issues, but fixing the issue is not in our pipeline, as the game was designed and optimized for single graphics configurations."

Now that, is why I got a refund on my game. Until I actually see a patch/fix, I will not spend a penny on it.

I haven't had flickering at all. Have you updated your SLI profiles? This update was released for the demo and I have had no issues I think because of it.

Yep. No joke. I called EA and was on hold forever, so then I decided to do a chat with someone while I was on hold. And that was the response they gave me. And even after that, they guy was trying to get me to buy the game.......lol.

Then I stayed on the phone until someone answered because I thought maybe that guy was lying, but he wasnt. The rep told me the same thing.

A lot of angry customers will probably change that though.......see what happens when they make the game available for consoles? It ruins everything. Crysis is meant to be on PC only. Period.

This game is a console port from what I hear. I wouldn't be surprised if a 460m handles it at 60fps.
