You can still change to a06 no problem I think.

Interesting thread. Someone needs to connect a desktop monitor display to see if the visual issues are still there.

I would honestly like to buy an m17x to test a lot of cards I have. I have an MSI GTX 460m if anyone would be interested to test the different type.

While you are all correct about the BIOS modification needed its a completely different type than what was modded in the a06 BIOS. It has to do with the MXM structure, and the MXM 3.0 spec has not yet been released.

You can look at a thread in the Acer section. .Netroller3d knows how to modify a BIOS for MXM 2.1 structure. Recently he changed something and found it useful to bypass the MXM structure entirely, I am unsure if this would be more possible with an MXM 3.0 structure and this type of BIOS.

LOL I like how you posted a screenshot of what I said but didn't read it at all.

You don't even know if you need a BIOS mod do you... What about the driver makes you think of BIOS???

If I am not reading wrong, the picture he posted, say something about ccc not being able to start...

@lelongthanh84 I can't give you really help. But some users here has been able to make work the HD 5870. You might want to contact them...

One of them is inzelux, you can contact him at this thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/624271-guide-r1-r2-installing-diagnosis-hd5870m-single-crossfirex-overclocking-tba-bf3-optimization-comming.html

And the other is Dannyboy2609, you can contact him, at this thread:

You probably should read this thread and see if something there can help you:

I don't see that as any guarantee that the drivers are impossible to install and get working correctly.

If a BIOS mod really is needed (I agree it probably is for the Nvidia cards), I don't think the people who got the 5870m working will be able to help unless they had to mod the BIOS to get them working which I don't think they did.
Therefore, its really not going to be worth it to post in the Alienware thread asking for BIOS mods, not very many people who have alienwares are into BIOS modding. ;)
There are people who could find a way to make it work, I believe it. But I don't think they frequent these forums or necessarily speak english.

If the HD 5870 worked without BIOS modd, I think there is a big chance the HD 6970m works without any modded BIOS. If the card is running, and displaying images on the screen without problems, then there is a big chance you just have to get the right drivers, or the right install/unnistall drivers procedure.

    Hi, man!

Cool to see that you're trying to test the 6970!

Obviously, it seems from this picture that the card is "working in the slot", by that i mean that the card seems functional.

However, what you're having problems with, is the display driver. Catalyst Control Center is working just fine, but when you get that error-message, it's because the display-drivers aren't present. (Therefore, Catalyst Center has nothing to "load", "handle".)

    Some ideas;
    1. Did you try the original driver from DELL? (for the 6970?) (Do that from an clean install, get rid of all excess drivers.
    2. Did you try the original 5870 driver from dell? (Do that from an clean install, get rid of all excess drivers prior to installing that.)

How does the installation process for the driver that you tried to install go, any error-messages, BSOD? Information, information!

    - Scott.

Someone find a solution for GeForce 560M in Alienware m17x R1?

I have flash vbios with Dell vbios. I have mod nvidia driver with vendor string and after reboot I have always "color test". If I plug vga monitor, image is ok. If a don't install nvidia driver (Standard VGA driver), image is ok.

Laptop bios A07, nvidia chipset, geforce driver v285.62
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_02A11028&REV_A1

Or the card is realy incompatible with this alienware...
BF3 with my 260M is not is not really beautiful, but it works!

Can you describe what is "color test"?? Can you take a picture with your camera or cellphone or something... Via VGA monitor, do you get 3D performance??..

I think as long as Nibitor doesn't support the GTX 560M, there is no much to do about it.. probably the issues are related to the voltage levels, or something like that.

I don't have 3d performance, just for exemple i score 4.8 on windows 7 performance on aero test.

For test color (like color test in dell diag), the screen flash from green to red to blue, write, black. One time a reboot computer and I have the same display in bios sequance! Not just in windows.

There is really no way to be sure of why the card is not woring on the M17x R1. Only way is trying changing voltages of levels, that's possible using Nibitor, but it seems Nibitor at the moment does not support the GTX 560M. Other than that you can try flashing your video card with different vbios (clevo, asus, etc), and see what happens.

I have flash with many bios but I cannot found bios with 1.0V in all P-State. The card always switch between P-State 12 and P8 (gpu clock 202mhz), and the 1.0V is always for P0, or P1. Temperature have peek at 50C max.

Hey this is an interesting thread. I'm interested in running a 460m gtx as well as seperately testing a 480m gtx in my M17x R2. Do you guys think it'll work? I've heard that the 480 pulls a lot of power- 240w psu enough? Mods needed to bios or vbios at present? Cards are after market
