Don't want to be "that" guy, but it is possible that you might have a bad card.

Can somebody explain me this BS ?
a reply from upgradeyourmonkey on ebay:

    ''Dear flingins,

Hello there, yes we have installed 780M on m17x R2 fully working with no problem.

You will need to talk to your 780M supplier for detailed installation guide.

    Kind Regards
    upgrademonkey team''

I think BS is exactly what it is... unless they tried a different version to yours. You have a Dell/Clevo card? Still, I don't see them trying it in an R2. I hope I'm wrong though.

Could also be mind games to make you think "buy upgrademonkey's version, it works!!!" :p

That said, I haven't seen anything negative about upgrademonkey to doubt them.

edit: I see you bought it from Eurocom, so that would make it Clevo card. Maybe upgrademonkey tested with the Dell version.

Just spoke with Dell UK, they do not have 780M as an option yet, rep said nVidia just have it as an oem for now.

in US you can get 780M...... i feel PAIN in my %£!

I thought it will be nice to give you an example what you should expect from 780M VS 7970M

Here are newest 3dmark comparisons, both made on my R2 with same CPU Settings. 780M test was done on external screen via HDMI as most of you know already.

    ResultIce Storm
    ResultCloud Gate
    ResultFire Strike

Not a massive jump, first 2 tests head to head, only the last test was able to show about 15% gain.

Tests are still in progress, lets keep the fingers crossed it will finally work on Primary laptop screen.

Well ice storm is a mobile phone benchmark, cloudgate is for older systems so they will be CPU bound anyway.

Laptop HDMI does not support output higher then 1080p. Using an adapter for HDMI to DVI does not solve this problem. (Correct me if i am wrong)
The higher HDMI output has to come straight from the card. The laptop uses the motherboard/pci-e lanes to output to the HDMI source.

Even old hdmi do 1920x 1200 fine iirc. New (1.4a BS) hdmi actually can do 1440p.

I think what matters is the spec /generation and nothing else. (for output)

Not to hijack this thread, but...
I hooked up my R2 on my 1440p monitor today and it does not support output higher then 1920x1080.

Well not a new one, just a new primary heatsink because i hate to swap the cards and waste IC Diamond. The whole repasting process is always tricky, when you miss the spot the temps can be 7-10'C higher.

Now i will just swap the cards in 1 minute, no extra paste, no extra time, quick and easy, so happy.

It turned out that nVidia released a card with Vbios glitch, and because of this glitch, i will probably fail to get it to run in my R2.
nVidia did not fixed the Vbios, just relased a video driver for Win8 which fixes bugs but only in R3/R4.

This is confirmed by nVidia officially.

I will wait about 2-3 weeks and investigate further during that time, but if i fail to get it resolved, i will Sell the Card, R3 and R4 users will be much more happier with it than i am :)

You can PM me if you will be interested in buying it from me, but i will anyway post it in NBR marketplace once i decide i am done with testing.

Yeah officially AW R4-3D/ 680M/Clevo P370EM 120Hz blank screen bug when updating drivers, very similar issue with the R2/780m screen not detected after driver update.

i will ask eurocom to honor my warranty, 6 months old card, no oc, mild Diablo 3 playing only, and loads of web browsing, not my fault i think, plus i am pretty skilled person with ESD strap on my wirst every time i do something to my R2.
Would anyone of you buy a card worth $500 if there would be a notice on the card like ''this card will only work for 6 months'' ?

So last night I just got my 780m to work on my r2.

I have bios a10 (not unlocked) and I downloaded a driver I found on 3DP Chip that matched my cards and PC hardware id.

The one thing that I find odd, is yes it does not work if you just hit power and wait, I've found if I continuously open and close the lid while it posts loads widows, and displays windows, it will not work.

I've tried not opening it for parts of the startup, but nothing works unless I do it throughout the startup.

Super odd, but I got it to work, so be it. Haha
