    ah...
    didn't notice the missing 'x' after 'M17'.

and so unfair that he (quadzilla) can run the QX9300 @ 3.2 GHz. saw somebody else with a stable 3.125 as well.

for anyone else who might want it, here's the one-click for the vista64 version (in case it doesn't check cookies).

when i first got the M17x, i removed raid from the bios, re-formatted and re-installed. inadvertently wiping that 14 MB partition that it came with. anyways, i'm happy to have the system as a fresh-install by me :p

don't think the rescue disk will work in 'rescue' mode but hopefully diagnostics will still work.

i was wondering if anyone had tried to overlock a t9600 on the M17x, i heard that with those you can only play with the fsb, is that true? i would like to hear from anyone who tried, i get my laptop next week and i would like to know if i can overlock throught the bios or only with setfsb.
    thanks to yous all!!!

    You can overclock via BIOS.

I had mine maxed a 1333 with no issues (T9550)

    Hello QX9300 owners,
Just got the QX9300 on my Dell M6400 and
1.I notice from Everest that says it already operates 10% overclocked (2800MHz).Is this normal or?
    2. Dell Bios has this ability (of changing the multipliers) locked. Is the way of flashing to 0.28 OCZ bios...viable?
3.In that case Can I use then the Intel's XTU (extreme tuning utility) for this mobile processor?
I would like to arrive to 3.06 with multiplier 11.
    Thank you

    Hello everyone,

So I just got my M17x today (replacement for a XPS M1730). It's got the QX9300 in it, and I'd like to overclock it to something stable. I'm a total noob at it though, and I'm still confused after reading some of the guides on it. In the BIOS, after I change "Select Clock Mode" to "UnLinked," then what do I do? Manually type in some value in the FSB Frequency, or select one of the values in the CPU Multiplier Selection? Or both? Anyways, thanks in advance for helping :D

yes and yes. Play around see what works best. You can try by playing with just your fsb first and then when you see how that performs try raising your multiplier. Or you can do it the other way around, it's just easier to test when you are not changing multiple options at the same time.

just curious, the official BIOS on m17x are able to overclock extreme CPUs? unlike the m17 that needs to flash to the OCZ BIOS? thats' really nice!

so, I got my CPU at 21c-22c , I'm having issues with benchmarking @ 3.27Ghz. It's stable, but when doing CPU vantage test, it lokcs up. I don't get it. The Temperature is as low as it is. Can someone weight in on what I should do?

Temperature isn't the only criteria to keep a CPU stable. Perhaps it's just reached it's limit.

Per Intel statement regarding the Clock Speed, the QX9300 could be OC'ed to 3.7Ghz "with the right/proper cooling" . Maybe the statement is just rubbish...lol..

    Mandrake got it to 3.3GHz....

I can't get this CPU go past 3.04GHz stable and it's OEM. The first time I applied arctic silver that I had left, waited 200+ hours to brake in, started testing... nothing, I reapplied ocz freeze that I also had left, the same... event though I had better idle temperatures.
I can boot at 3.2 without BSOD but when I run IntelBurn Test for a couple of minutes the temps go way too high and crashes. These are the max temperatures after 5 minutes at 3.04GHz and ambient temp 22 C. What makes me wonder is that the MCP's temperature rises faster than the CPU...

my loads temps are also higher than yours (hitting 86c)

i need to replace the crappy paste and put on some MX-3

i have done that already. I can go past 3.2 GHz. The point is that if I stress the cpu enough to exceed 82 C it crashes. I suspect that it's the chipset that becomes unstable because it's always 2-3 degrees hotter than the cpu. I assume the next step is to change the thermal pads, apply some thermal paste and see

    I think default is 9.5 X 266 = 2527 Mhz.
    So your multiplier X10 should be 10 X 266= 2660 Mhz...
So how did you got 3.04 Ghz with X10 multiplier??

The BIOS gives you the option to change more than the multipliers right?
    FSB 1216
    Multy x10
    That gives you 3,04GHz (1216/4 X 10 =3040MHz)

so let me get this right if I set my FSB to 1086
and my Multy x11.5 then I am running 3409 Mhz ? cause in my tests that is what I had it set at when I got the first screen shot and on it says 3162MHZ so which is right the tools I used or doing your way?

Aren't you using ThrottleStop on your QX9300 yet? Right click on TS, unlock your multiplier and set it as high as you like. You can also adjust the VID voltage too to keep it stable.

Here is what I was able to achieve with one of the "QX9200" ES CPU's. I had to go a little wild with the vcore to do it, but i broke 14k in Vantage.

It runs great at 1.35v and 3.33ghz. Doesn't get too hot or anything. The couple of game's i've played so far weren't even breaking into the 60's. This CPU was one hell of a deal.
