oh that's not hard to do. What you have to do is to know the guys at some of these websites. Go on the forums where they hang out and show them what you can do

(FYI... 3 years ago, i was asked to help with some reviews over at anandtech cause i knew some of the reviewers..knew them for years on some forums. I eventually had to pass it up because i was too busy with rl business, but that's how it starts.)

hahahha...don't get me started about the wife. Beautiful woman, but she thinks money grows on trees

i was kind of "ok" with the price until the tax jumped on board.. then the total price became scary.. quebec taxes sux big time!! still... no regrets.. buying an Alienware was on my list of things to do before i die and i thought i would do with in 5-10 years. :)

by the way slick.. i will at least wait to see the throttling effect but i check with my local store and the only one compound you recommanded is the ARCTIC COOLING MX-4T 4G unless you see something better at this url or i order online!

MX-4 will do just fine! Regardless of throttling or not, you still want to repate because the stock paste jobs are scary.

    Wow...they charge $20 plus tax for mx-4??

the local shop to me charges $9.99

    Definitely get it online!

Yeah, they are really quite bad. It's not hard to do, just check out Slick's guides and take your time. Worth it in the end, but be careful

geo, two very quick questions for you,

    1. does monitoring GPU temps, increase the idle temp for you?

    2. 60fps are you getting with 16xAA 8xpost and FXAA? if not, they drop the fps to 40 but the game looks amazing with these preset :)

Temps stay the same, it's just a thermal sensor right? & as long as there is no GPU load then it should stay the same - if I'm not gaming I stick with IGP, so no need to monitor.

My preference is 8x AF and x4 AA and FXAA off. Perfect balance of detail and smoothness.
IMO FXAA is a cheap mans AA and blurs the crap out of everything :p
Unless you want a dream like gaming experience go ahead with both! xD

60+ FPS and screen tearing just pleases me lol.

I don't know maybe because I am using optimus (whenever I start monitoring it goes from 40C to 50C)

I really like the motion blur for some reason, smooths the ends perfectly :)

Hey Doc, Where did you get the $200 off coupon?
I'm debating the exactly same thing as You did, and $200 off would be pretty sweet. Too bad that I didn't read up this post 10 days earlier, Dell.ca only offers $575 off now on the GTX580m option one.

unfortunatly, the 200$ coupon is vanished from the DELL.ca website (it was in their coupon section that i found it)

i tried again yesterday and the only coupon now available was on a 14z.

I have never had so much trouble from DELL in the past.. it was the worst experience in my 32 years. 20 something emails.. the alienware was cancelled from production for anti-fraud protection, complaint sent to the manager, you name it, it happen.. 2 hours ago, it was suppose to be fixed.. had to start all over again with a new order (with my old expired deal $) and now im confirmed and waiting again for production.. the backpack was lost, sent a new one.. it was charged with no confirmation.. im not even sure i'll get a pack at all.. but im gonna fight for it after the other nightmares are fixed.. (they charged me so.. i want it)

holy jesus /?/$?|## what a nightmare it is..

inspired by a trick i found on this great forum.. i bull$h¡ted something about an important meeting this weekend with the M17x.. and that situation and delay was DELL's fault.. and try to get a "rush" priority production and overnight shipping! if it work, im gonna laugh at all this..

..as long as there is no defect on the M17x and i have to send it back to nightmare land!

I did some voodoo rituals, dancing and chanting (after all, im a dragonborn) at full moon while cutting the head of a chicken to exorcise my DELL curse.

I have been double charged for a alienware backpack that never made it to my house.. got credited for one 5 days later.. no email, no expedition notice, nothing, i get home yesterday.. BAM! a new pack just arrived. Glad but still dont understand wth happen.

I see the M17x is still in production with an estimate of december 15 but im pretty sue i wont get any shipping notice either according to the backpacks.

Why me GOD?? why!! [/shout] is it the price for having to use a jedi mind trick?!

Sucks dude. I've found the best policy with ordering Alienware is to place the order, then do everything in my power NOT to pay attention to the delivery schedule etc etc for at least 2 months. Invariably, the machine turns up without stress. The times I've watched the status I've completely freaked out at what's going on, to the point once of even getting Alienware's CEO involved.

I do the same thing...place the order and then forget about it. Eventually, it will show up at your place :D

Doc, when did you officially place the order? it can take 2-3 weeks before it is shipped out to you.

In my case, it was shipped to my house within 2 1/2 weeks from time of order

last time i didnt check what was going on, there was a problem with my order (the first problem out of 20) and they took 5 days to cancel my order.. and had to remake a new one with my old deal$ who were not available anymore.

So i was kinda forced to check often, just to be sure it was rolling. but i absolutly agree that the best way is to not think about it! :)

officially november 23.. the old estimate date of delivery was december 2. they had to kill my order and remake one november 30 with an estimate of december 15 for delivery.

im basing on the fact that my coworker ordered an xps 17 from the same dell rep as i did and had an estimate of december 12 (and he got is laptop yesterday.. 6 days before his estimate "deadline")

with all that taken into account, i was guestimating a december 9-10 for me [[this weekend maybe  ]] if there is no more curse
