Just made a Vortex 1070 work today. Had to be flashed with non-gsync vbios from latest MSI 1070N vbioses and then modded with a special attention to one file only. Getting drivers to install was essentially the biggest issue. EUROCOM Failed to do it, and was always reporting error 43 when they installed it, but I got it working and sticking no issues.

Would you mind sharing what you did in this thread, as quite a few have had the same issue on a number of different models.

Do you have any access to a VBIOS that is compatible with a ZOTAC GTX 1080 ?

So, if you are going to buy the Zotac BOX for taking his MXM card, be sure to buy the old model or your computer has enough space for this.new card like our AW17.

About bench, is the same, also you can realize they have the same amount of MOSFET that the one without the tab.

@EepoSaurus, I believe we can solder an HDMI Output to the IGP Slot available in the Mother Board of the ZOTAC!

This way, we can use the ZOTAC BOX without MXM Card!

I'm not very good soldering small pieces, can you?

If you look at the card with the pins closest to you the big black chip with the 8 pins on the lower left is the bios chip.

I can solder pretty well. All so you can use igp? Seems like maybe a different bios could do it

I believe we can use the IGP Output direct from the Zotac Box, because I have Windows installed and I can boot without MXM, but no video...

Look at this picture https://imgur.com/4i9AJeg there is an HDMI IGP port that you can use in order to use the Integrated Processor Video....

so in the end what we found out about that zotac 1080 is that it cant output the whole power of a 1080 card. maybe its bios related.. but a good msi 1070 currently can reach the zotacs 1080 performance (14.000 in firestrike)

what other 1080s are available that might work in an m17x R4?

    Incorrect.

We found out that the r4 can't output power needed for the card. Supplementary power is required. Same for the Ranger.

The Zotac performs right up with a normal 1080 from reviews IIRC, again it's just power throttled

The 1070 in the R4 I bought off eBay seems to be normal shaped. The stock heatsink was modified but I replaced that with the copper 5 pipe. Got 12.8k in firestrike out of the box.

Now if I could just fix the Win10 USB 3.0 issues.....could run Oculus

Eurocoms might be ok but they have a habit of exploding so they tend to be a non-option.

VRMs are crap, so while im the rest of the card is fine I guess exploding VRMs make them a non-option.

Gosh its been a while since I was through those motions.

Would need to find my post in the 120hz 3d upgrade thread to get better details. My Ranger has been dead for a while now. Sadly the replacement I bought was also dead.

Eurocom charges way too much for their garbage anyways.

So I decided to patiently work again on my EN1080K on moving and straightening some pins around and decided to test a different CPU. I installed an intel G3900 that I borrowed from my cousin, and I got it to work.

So all along , besides the bent pins , the i7-7700 was also damaged, which Zogac support tells me with the 10 beep code and 5 beeps after start up ( installed on the bent pins and it scratched the bottom of cpu).

Upon getting it to work, I noticed something about the gtx 1080. It has a code 43. So I tried different bios , video drivers etc .. still code 43.

So I gave up. Then i decided to install an i7-6700K , upon starting up the ZBox , the code 43 is no longer there. So maybe the gtx 1080 don't work with low end CPU, maybe due to the bios it have in the gtx 1080?

So the reason for my post here , I'm not sure if the code 43 I encountered on the M17X R4 has to do with the CPU being low end and kept the gtx 1080 not working properly with the internal 120hz edp screen.

I think all these newer cards have restrictions on whether they work or not on specific CPU platforms. Whether it's vBIOS, driver, etc. I don't know.

But I know for a fact a 1080 should work on a 3rd gen CPU if there were no restrictions. There are people I've seen running X58 (1st gen i7) with 2080 etc. I was gonna be one of those people but decided against it.

I agree for desktop platform it won’t matter as I do own an old cpu desktop with newer gpu. For mobile platform , maybe there is a restriction.

The VRMs are fine, for 95W as Gecube originally designed. Problem is Eurocom flashes them with 115W and 125W vBIOS that pushes them too hard, and then they explode.

I've seen instances of 95w throttling as well, refusing to push past 80w on their cards.

Have any one tried to feed the card in dell system by making an aditional power input on it? There are plenty of 1080 with a power connector on it so i'm wondering if the card needs 150 watt powet input but motherboard cant deliver it to the card it can be delivered directly to the gpu 19 v power rail by making the connector or direct soldering it and power it on with another external 19v power supply. This will reduce powerload on the motherboard and can deliver as many watts as needed.

Someone got the Clevo 180W GTX 980 desktop card with 4-pin working in the AW 17 R1. I'm sure something similar can be done with 1080 as well.

His 4 pipe mod is really only phase 1 of a real mod. The 4th pipe isn't connected to anything.

But otherwise that's the mod I plan to piggy back for the 1080 later
