Do you mean I can only use AMD GUP toll "while" I am running Furmark in 640X460 window? or after I run the Furmark stability test?
thanks
PS. No matter what value I set, it just freeze with black screen....
Can you tell me how exactly I should do? -
Run a furmark benchmark on windowed mode at 640x480 and then open the AMD tool to set the clocks you want. just click to set the values for both cards
-
-
i just do that so the clocks are at their max frequency. otherwise if I go straight to change the values it locks up. the same applies for riva tuner
-
I guess it doesn't work for me. Even I just add +1 value it freeze. never mind.
I think I did something wrong, but the ocing GPU just not working for my m17x r2..... -
I am having issues with AMD GPU tools. It won't let me change the frequencies. Not sure what is wrong.

Ive been flashing my video cards lately so i didnt notice it.
Will try and find a work around or a different software to overclocking it.
EDIT: You can also use rivatuner. -
I cannot find Joker's vBIOS OC guide for the 5870. He made one a few month ago and included the flash files. Anyone know where it went?
-
I dont think you need a different one for the 5870s, same thing applies. -
Yea, It's the exact same process for the 5870's. Take it from me. And that guide is an excellent write up.

Thanks...

resolved the issue. will post pictures of my performance boost in the benchmark thread later. thanks.

Quick question about SetFSB, will I have to set the values every time I restart my computer?

Does anyone have any specific OC info for the 820? I tried SetFSB and when I clicked "update" on the final setting change my system crashes.
I have tried upping the voltage in the Bios to +150. Any other suggestions on where to start? I have SetFSB, Throttlestop, and all of the other programs mentioned in this thread. I looked through the guide but it really seems focused on the 9 series.
Also, I am trying to OC my dual 4870's using the AMD GPU tool. Card #1 overclocks right away to 600/1000 with no trouble. Card #2 refuses to change. It is listed at 250/200 which seems way low to me. I tried the above trick of running FurMark and adjusting while that goes on, but no change. The second card seems unusually slow. I cannot change the voltage on the 2nd card either. The error message given is "SetClock Failed! - Please check device configuration"" -
My guess is your using the wrong PLL. It has to be the AsusG73 PLL and in order to get access to that you need to use the paid version of Set FSB. I've overclocked the 520M, 540M, 720M, 920XM and 940XM via set FSB. Click "Asus G73 PLL" Get FSB, up the registers a few clicks and then SetFSB.

DR650SE - are you refering to my post? If so I have an M17X-R2. Or do you know that and I still need an Asus PLL?
-
Lol I can understand the misunderunderstanding, I know that thats why your in this thread/Forum/sig. Both systems use the same PLL. You still need it. Give it a shot and let me know if it works.
EDIT: Let me see if I can dig up a post where I outlined the process....FOUND IT.
Try this, Use the Asus G73 PLL, then hit Get FSB, use the arrows to adjust the MHz, then click Set FSB. Everything is highlighted below
Click Asus G73 PLL (Bottom of list), Click Get FSB
Overclocked After SetFSB clicked
Move up two at a time till you crash it, and you can find the limits, run CPU benches like wprime, and superpi to test for stability. Monitor Temps, and such -
Armin_Tanzarian what DR said about the overclocking is correct. The m17x has the same pll as the g73, and he explained it perfectly.
About the cards, there seems to be a problem with AMD GPU tool so use rivatunerworks like a charm, or maybe flashing the cards?

Working on the OC now, thanks guys!
I'm trying Rivatuner but it doesn't seem very polished. There is not an obvious spot to set your OC settings. -

Also, I realize it entirely depends on the specific chip, but do you have any idea roughly where a top end should be for the 820? It started at 139, and your screen shot shows 155...is that close to the top, or do you think 200, etc?
-
Anyone tried OC-ing their 740 QM? Just wondering if the performance boost is worth the temp increase.

DR650SE & CodeBreaker - Thanks for the help. I am able to OC my processor. The video cards are still not doable but the cpu has netted me some extra power.
-
Aas far as the top overclock, the 139, is just a number for SetFSB. What really matters is your bus speed. That will probably top out around 150. I would move it up, click SetFSB, and continue doing that till you BSOD, then you can start working backward from there to find your highest stable OC.

Thanks Code, that fixed the OC on my video cards. Do they hold the new speeds after reboot or do they require setting each time?
Thanks -
Hello,
is it possible to overclock my i7 620m processor with setfsb tool? Because every time I open the setfsb in my m17x and try set a setting always freeze
thanks -
-
-
ok, I send him the money and gave me the key for SetFSB.
Now I tried to overclock already, its stable at 169 ~ 3900mhz.
But when I run a benchmark processor test with sisoft sandra, I get lower results than the stock
whats going on?
also anyone know if its possible to disable the intel speedstep and lock the multiplier at highest value? -
You can disable turbo mode but not lock it on the highest multiplier -
Hi!
Awaiting my own m17x-r2 and was curious if every i5/i7 can be clocked up just abit maybe. And while I'm here can it be that one can insert a i7 even thou I bought with i5 and how far up can I go later when I feel the need for a upgrade.
Sorry if I went abit offtopic
Regards Murck
P.S Waiting is the worst thing ever. -
Yeh you can OC the i5 or i7 CPUs in the M17x using setFsb.
For future upgrades you can get the Core i7 940XM as your max CPU. oles.
You could also get the i7 920XM both are available on ebay and pretty good value. 920XM is cheaper and better value atm.
Yep I sure hate waiting.
Cheers. -
How much of a physical mod do I have to make to cooling etc to not have to worry to much? I have no trouble doing a few cooling mods just want to know if there is anything else I need to order -
i didnt change the setup when i did my 720QM > 920XM upgrade. and i used the cheap and nasty thremal paste. it gets over 80c under full load running at stock. will try again tonight to get the exact temps its hits..
i am trying to find somewhere to buy Shin Entsu paste, then i will pop the top and try again.. hopefully i can get better contact with the CPU/Heatsink so i can overclock it some -
Cheers. -
Cheers. -
i cant find anyone that sells Shin Entsu in the UK... one mob does but have no stock hehe
ah well, i will keep looking. does anyone know? -
Cheers. -
cheers mate, im from aus as well hehe. always chiina orders...
will grab some from the US dude -
Oh your down under too koolos oles. High 5 lol.

I bought the above link last week. I have them in my drawer now. Too lazy to do them LOL. I'm also kinda waiting for my TX-4 paste to arrive.
I had to buy it from here though Tuniq TX-4 High Performance Thermal Grease - 3.0g - FrozenCPU.com since nothing on ebay and the one I found doesn't do international shipping the buggers lol.
Also I must say these shin etsu tubes are like so stingy lol ehahaha hardy any in a tube LOL. 1 Tube = like 1 i7 CPU die coverage LOL.
Cheers. -
far out that is damn good to know mate. i will have to buy a few then.
whats the TX-4 used for?
and i so cant be bothered doing the whole repaste thang.. gotta get motivated.. -
Cheers. -
Out of curiosity, I've been getting BSOD's anytime I've tried to load GPUTool or AMD GPU Clock Tool. I'm using the 10.10 version of Dell drivers, the latest from them available, but I don't know what the issue is. I've attached the log for GPUTool but the AMD GPU Tool didn't provide me with one.
Any ideas?Attached Files:

Try starting FurMark in the background before opening your OC tool. This way both GPUs are fired up and running full 3D clocks. If I'm not mistaken, during normal non-gaming operations the 2nd card is put to sleep. Thus, when the the OC tool sees CrossFire, but can't actually find the other card, it doesn't know what to do.
-
Well, I installed the 10.11 drivers and the AMD Tool starts up now as well as GPUTool, GPUTool seems outdated and unused so I will stick to the AMD Tool. That said, even without overclocking my cards I've noticed odd behavior and temperatures that are causing the card to down-clock while being used in games I play as well as FurMark.
-
So I have 2 5870's in my M17xR2. Im trying to overclock the cards in AMD GPU clock tool but the problem I am having is that I cant overclock the 2nd card.
At first I thought overclocking the main card would automatically overclock the 2nd one but it didnt. Then I tried doing it individually and it gave me an error saying clock failed check device configuration.
Other problem is most of the time AMD GPU clock tool doesnt even show the 2nd card. I have to keep closing and re-opening the program until it does. Does this happen with anyone else?
