hey if i order the single hdd drive will i be able to upgrade to two later? i've heard people aren't able to add second hdd

 

you need to get a 2 drive bay from dell for free but i did make a guide how to install a hard drive sooooo....

hey moo, what tools do i need to mod my m17x (when I get it)? and since i have no clue how to do modding, should i get the complete care package? thats the one that covers intentional damage right?

 

what will you be modding ?

CC doesn't cover intentional it covers ifyou ran it over or dropped it down the stairs on accident

 

There is no warranty on earth that covers intentional damage.... that means your going out of your way to break it and expect it to be replaced?

Accidental damage is what your covered for with Complete Care.

 

Lol Modding seems like a sketchy thing to do with such an expensive machine.

I was thinking once I have my M17x in hand, tracking down the part#s for the bottom chassis, the palm rest and the LCD housing. Wouldn't it be fun to order these and then do a custom paint job?

Initially, the parts won't be available to order I imagine but give it time and I'm sure it will possible (pricey but possible).

tho intentional damage warranty wouldn't be so bad

 

Yeah i think the one that brings out intentional damage insurance will sell 1000 of laptops in a day but gets broke the next month.

i have a few questions for you people,
i ordered a t9600 (could not afford better) , do you guys think i will be able to overclock it and if yes by how much?
i have the 256 ssd and i wonder what brand it is (i am guessing samsung tho) and if it is a good ssd?
i am from australia and i payed 3600 dollard for it do you guys reckon its a good deal?

the brand is samsung and its one of the best drives

its not a bad deal you can overclock your cpu to 3.3 ghz

hey moo how is that single gpu hangin? does it handle farcry2 and cod4 good? i think ima get just the single and wait for ati (because its better) but i heard something about it being a big hassle switching to ati/xfire

 

I have the T9550 at 3.33 and temps are good.

 

COD maxed out farcry i unno but DMC and RE 5 demo can run maxed as well

 

@ moo do you know of any difficulties drivers-wise when installing ati gpus with xfire?

does anyone know when 4870m's will come out?

hey moo, sorry for bothering you, but is it too much to ask for a benchmark of both games @ 1680*1050? I know you have posted a screenshot of RE5, but that was @ 1920*1200. I cant really compare both cards this way.

I think that maybe the GTX 260m mxm 3.0 performs just like the gtx 280m mxm 2.0, due to the gap in memory clcoks,but I've got no proof though.

Since I haven't been able to look at the M17x first hand yet, is Stereo Mix available within the IDT control panel?

Dell was supposed to implement this on all new lappies. They burned us for a long time on this claiming the hardware wasn't compatible under Vista. Proved that to be false using a modified Sigmatel driver on the M1730.

 

Never installed the IDT app since my reinstall. I'm sure someone here has.

I didnt want to start a new thread on this... but on the bottom of the M17x right arrow key, is there supposed to be a clear plastic think sticking out of it...
I didnt notice it until I put my head directly above the keyboard and looked down on the "right Arrow" key.. theres like a clear plastic thing sticking out from under this key... Can I push this thing back in with a fork/knife???

should you undervolt your M17x (with overclocked cpu)? how many people with dual core or quad core M17x's are doing this?

Can the M17x play Crysis on ultra/max settings? And if so do you atleast get average 30fps?

The benchmark does. I'm sure in game it varies greatly.

 

If it can't, there isn't much else that would.

But I've seen videos of ppl playing it on high settings smoothly, so you're fine.

 

What do you guys use to OC your GPU? EVGA Precision gives me weird readings (383 core, 767 shader, 301 memory and no fan control). I used to use NTune but now I get blue screens whenever I run it.

Just downloaded Nvidia System Tools..that is NTune...every time I use it I get a blue screen. I also can't uninstall it..when I try to add/remove programs in the CP I get a progress bar that flashes for a sec then disappears..
