actually this is not entirely acurateYou are able to extend the warranty up to 4 months after it has expired. However obviously it is backdated and you would end up with 8 months (if ordered 1 year) remaining.
Cheers

For example Crossfire 3870s have been successfully installed in the AW M9750 which uses an Nvidia chipset but desktops with the Nvidia 790fx chipset don't support Crossfire(talk is it needs special hacked drivers).
Chaz confirmed for us with Dell/AW reps at E3 that the M17x will support ATI cards in Crossfire and still come equipped with the 9400M chipset. The most recent BIOS update for the M17x also added Crossfire support to the machine. -
+rep -
Darn phin you beat me to it
-
It's cool though thanks anyway.

I knew a HUGE amount about computers before I joined NBR....lol

You can tell who is helpful and knowledgeable, and who is not.
-
Lol why do u think I hate rep ?
Sarcasim people ....

Needless to say, I get bored A LOT! lol -
Great Job for consolidating these stuffs

Will the Q9100 show a significant difference in games when compared with the Q9000?
-

for the record...the Q9100 does have the 12mb cache vs 6mb on the Q9000
so this should (in conjunction with a higher stock clock) yield an overall higher performance -
Hey,
I want to pick up one of these bad boys, and want to use windows 7. How big of a pain in the is it to upgrade from vista to win 7 given all the special alienware software/features etc? Is it worth waiting to get it with win 7 installed?
Thanks -
depend if you know how to install a program
i would just order it now TBH -
after using Windows 7, i don't know if i can go back to Vista. Windows 7 is just so lightning fast compared to Vista.

Hello all
I am a regular in another forum, but saw that this place is really hopping on the M17X.
The waits seem long?
This is what I'm thinking about:
Intel® Core2 Extreme Quad QX9300 2.53GHz (12MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
Nebula Red - Special ion Anodized Aluminum
Windows Vista Ultimate (64 bit) + Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade Coupon
3 Yr Ltd Warranty, On-site Service, and 3 Yr Tech Support
17-inch WideUXGA 1920x1200 (1200p)
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
1TB - 2x 500GB 7,200RPM - RAID 0
Slot-Load Dual Layer Blu-ray Burner (BD-R/RE, DVD±RW, CD-RW)
Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 280M, 2GB SLI® Enabled -
Wait times are hit and miss. Some ppl have had there orders ship in a week and some are being delayed.
It used to be related to the LCD but now it seems random. Most of the quick shippers AND delay folks all have the WUXGA ordered.
Anyway, your specs are impressive! Enjoy it... -
NYC Drifter Notebook Evangelist
Thanks for the info sleey0. I see you have the Nebula red, is that the way to go?
-
Don't know as I haven't gotten it yet
I have seen some amazing pics of the red chassis and IMO it looks fantastic! -
Hi, my first post here, and I would just like to thank "The Moo" and all the other regulars for such great information regarding the M17x.
I'm finally upgrading from a Gen1 XPS (loaded at the time), and I'm quite anxious. I've owned many Dells over the years, and have had nothing but smooth sailing. Dell "partnering" with AW has triggered my interest, and I will be ordering a loaded machine in the next few days.
Again, thanks very much, and I hope to do more than lurk in the future -
Thanks and what are the specs? And I hope u do stay the more the Better
-
Thinking of ordering this pretty soon. This morning, I actually clicked a link in this thread (at least I think it was on this thread) that had "20% off when you upgrade to $1099.00 or more" or something to that effect.
Anyway, I configured my machine to these specifications:
Space Black – Anodized Aluminum
Intel® Core™2 Extreme Quad QX9300 2.53GHz (12MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
Windows Vista Ultimate (64 bit) + Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade Coupon
Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 280M, 2GB – SLI® Enabled
17-inch WideUXGA 1920x1200 (1200p)
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
1TB - 2x 500GB 7,200RPM - RAID 0
Slot-Load Dual Layer Blu-ray Combo (BR-ROM, DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
and it came up to $3000+ with the coupon.
In my hurry to get to work, I just left this computer on the cart page. Now that I'm back from work, that page has of course timed out. I reload the page, and the discount offer's gone.
Long story short (ok, so it's gonna be in the form of a question) does anyone know of the offer? It was supposed to expire on September 3, 2009.
I've even tried googling that and the laptop deals on here, with no luck. -
I haven't seen a 20% coupon that will work with the M17x...
-
-
Dell offers don't work with the M17x...
-
Dell sells it so as long as the fine print doesn't exclude the M17x it should work.
Usually those types of coupons are for Inspiron, Studio, and XPS only.... -
-
You have to use that code a certain way for it to work with the M17x.
I just did it today (and yesterday and last week but that's another story) -
Well I'd like to know how because I tried CFR2DPN1230*** about 4 times last night and could NOT get it to work.
Also, how do they verify you work for Boeing? They don't verify for Comcast...
When I try to use the coupon on the M17x, this is what I get:
"Coupon Error
The coupon you have entered has been saved for this shopping session but NOT applied to your cart because the items in your cart do not meet the coupon criteria or other discounts are already in effect with which the coupon cannot be combined. Please review the coupon details for more information." -
-
Yeah if you found that coupon I'd be interested too.
-
This offer can be pulled by Dell if it is accessed fraudulently. Would you want to ruin it for all the employess/family members? -
I think whoever made it public on the internet to begin with would be the one ruining it.
-
I didn't post the coupon code, I was just proving that I was trying it and it wasn't working. I am better than that... I just know how to access each individual EPP site.
If someone has the time to figure out the last three characters of the coupon code, well that's on them. -
Yeah actually that's not hard. You can start entering random company names and see who has the best coupon.
-
Yep. If you have access to one EPP site, you have access to them all if your company provides a direct link. *shrugs*

I ordered it this morning, with an estimated arrival of September 24th. I'm really looking forward to this machine -
Wow.
Not a bad way to spend $6k -
The way I look at it, I've been using this XPS Gen1 since 10/2004, and have only upgraded to 2GB's of RAM. I didn't spend a dime on computer hardware since then, and hopefully the song will remain the same.
I was honestly not planning on purchasing a new machine anytime soon, however the LCD panel on this machine died last Tuesday, and I am using my Viewsonic 21" CRT as I type. Thank God I didn't sell this monitor! -
I remember the Gen1..... Brings back some OLD memories
