Same site I bought my Dell Studio XPS from last year.
You should be fine and if not a phone call should clear things up. -
hi guys
I have a couple of questions, i own the M17x R1 for a couple of weeks now.. but there are some things i can't solve:
1) when i eject a dvd from slot load, the slot load eject it well but windows will not refresh the information on the disc, i mean the icon of the dvd rw reader is the one from the dvd i just ejected... so thats a problem becauses when i place another dvd in to the dvd reader, windows willl not read the new dvd and i will not be able to eject the dvd untill i reboot the entire system so it sucks, i dont know if it is a M17x issue or a Windows 7 issue.
2) Is there a way to set one of the 280m's to be dedicated to physx??? for some games i know you will gain performace doing that instaed of SLI.
3) i can't oerclock the cpu with NST... i change the fsb but acording to cpu z and everest the cpu clock remains at default.
4) the silent is sometimes too loud. I mean when i use the headephones i can hear some kind of white noise reallly loud (but only sometimes, for example when i open a folder, or reproduce a bit of sound)... the problem is not noticiable in games or movies.. I don't think is the stutter issue becauses it was almost solved with the nvidia 197.31 beta drivers. -

Happy R1 owner here but had issues with Crysis. I disabled the crossfire and after three hours of playing it got slow and I had to restart Crysis. Any known issues other than Crysis not capable of crossfire. I know that my son has problems with his 5870 and Dragon Age on his desktop. Just wondering if there's something I should watch for.

Link doesnt work:
"How to delete the backup directory after using AlienRespawn 2.0 to recover your system" -
Well I was on the phone with Alienware Technical Support about my Graphics, and while he was setting up the replacement of my 280M GPU's he mentioned to me he could sell me a upgrade GTX460 GPU for 479.00
normally I would dismiss most things like this from a Dell Rep, but this was the Technical support folks who just finished diagnosing my video issues, and was looking in the computer for part numbers for my replacement parts, when he came across this little nugget.
I thought the R1 BIOS did not support a 460 GPU -

It does not unless we missed something. I can say with absolute certainty that it does not support 5870s and they are older than the GTX 460m....

unless Dell did somehting with the last BIOS updates for the R1

that something did not include 5870 support whatever they did.....
