my cpu goes past 70 everytime i play games. may have something to do with ambient temp but even when it's cold and i play for 2 hrs or so, it'll be 75 or so. my GPUs are hitting about 81 (the 2nd one is always running hotter).
and these were my temps even without overclocking. my idle temps for CPU are 47-51. do i have problem?![]()
fans are taking some time to kick in to full, usually once it's already quite hot. will start using a fan speed utill to have them running before i start playing. i'd rather overuse and lose a fan than the chip.

I plan on putting some OCZ freeze on my CPU and GPU... since I have heard that they use a non silver thermal paste to save money
-
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
10 char... did you put it on your GPU's heatsinks as well?
-
-
-
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
The safe operating temps are 100 C for the GPU's right? and what about the CPU? I believe it is also 100 at least on the X9300...
Hmmm why not though it never hurts madrake! -
-
If I see my temps getting too high I may do it next time I open it up. Right now I have no reason to do the extra work. -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Sorry no I mean those are the max temps... so at 80c under 2 hours of gaming you shouldn't be worried right?
-
No but do remember the more heat the shorter the life span. A cooler may not be a bad idea.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Lol I definitely don't plan to push my M17x up anywhere near those ranges... I was just pointing out that 80c after 2 hours of intese gaming wasn't too high... is it?
-
so I'm thinking about getting an fairly base m17x with hopes to upgrade it when and if I see the need to along the rode. The only upgrade I'll be getting from dell is the screen. I'm also thinking of waiting to see how the refresh of the m15x comes out. I'm also really ing worried about bleeding on the screen. I dunno what to do.
-
just trying to figure out how useful this post is
good luck though, sounds good---its what i got -
tried 'speedfan' to change fan speeds on my cpu/gpu. don't think it's working, gives a lot of address $xyz is read-only.
know of any others? thought ATi tool had it but that gave a low-level kernel driver errors. and OCing was disabled in the app. -
im pretty sure you are locked out of control of your fans
HWmonitor is good to monitor temps if thats what your looking. -
-
yup, ran it as administrator. does it need to be installed as admin as well?
btw, can u check ur bios settings for the sata mode? mine has ATA, AHCI & RAID. since i'm not using raid, i selected AHCI and i've tried native ahci & legacy ahci. not sure which one is best. -
Does anyone know who is the manufacturer of the SSD option in the M17x? I've looked around and can't find that detail. Is it Intel?
-
-
-
-
I've had it nearly two weeks and I haven't even tried to get my read/write speeds tested. Something to do tonight.
-
i'll compare speeds tonight -

The OCZ Summits have had the best results out of those you selected... It has very good if not the best write speeds... and very good read speeds

one more thing and OCZ Summit OCZSSD2-1SUM120G vs OCZ Summit OCZSSD2-1SUM250G ? For raid 0 what wold performa beter? what numbers
read right wold be expected from a raid0 of this beauty's ?

You left out the Vertex, Falcon, Torqx and Corsair P256. All are worth investigating.

MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Yea true be that lol... however I have heard OCZ is on the higher level teirs...
Also take a look at this
OCZ Unveils 3.5-Inch SSD "Colossus"
Posted 06/02/09 at 04:58:05 PM by Andy Salisbury
Earlier today at Computex OCZ unveiled their latest SSD, the 3.5-inch Colossus.
The Colossus will pack either 512GB or 1TB of storage inside its 3.5-inch enclosure, that has been made to fit in the spaces that you’ve come to know over the years. In order to make a drive of this size, OCZ commissioned a new PCB design with flash chips and SSD controllers rather than slapping together two SSDs into a larger enclosure.
It’s expected that it’ll be available in around eight weeks, but there’s no official word on the price. -

I have most definitely not heard great things about the Samsung series SSD's they are reliable... they are SSD's lol.... however they are some of the lower performers... and does it matter if it is exclusive as long as it does a good job?
Lol your right that is definitely a desktop SSD.... However the Asus W90 or M980NU might be able to accomidate it... but this is M17x thread... -
3.5" hdd = for desktops/servers. -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Yeah lol you must have quoted me right away lol.. I changed what I said a few seconds after posting lol...
What I meant was I have not heard great things about the performance of Samsungs SSD's -
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Yea not too impressed... The average read speeds are ~170 mbs and the write speeds were around 100... The price is pretty good... but the OCZ comes out on top, even though it uses Samsung technology

Made another video based on people's requests...

MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Huh I am impressed that's good... there are just soo many SSD's out there now it is hard to make a desicion... although I'm holding out a little longer for more mainstream prices... or a good paycheck lol...
Ok that Video was actually really sweeeet
BTW Hey praze what we all really want is for you to set up a lighting sequence, or edit your clips and show us all the different colors in one video!!!! -
I think most will be disappointed with anything other than blue, green or red.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Purple looked kinda cool....IMO... yea I like purple! you wanna fight about it
-
I just don't think the colors come through all that well unless it is really dark.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Well I don't really want my Alienware to start a rave in the middle of class lol... no jk, but yea I understand... you also know keyboard backlights are intended for low light situations

MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
I didn't say not to start raves at your dorm... or just to have an extra item to add some flair to the room!
