Wait clauss was that your other M17x playing the background music?
-
YES thats what the beauty of it was. I had the old m17x playing goodbye. While i packaged it up and opened the new one.

Very amusing unpacking video, thanks for posting!

Wow I just have to say I was skeptical... but the sound is incredible you were right! Was that at max volume?
-
Nah, maybe around half. When you get it, you will see. When i play games, it is around 15-30 of 100. It is quite loud. Also all the media buttons are very responsive and the volume ones work quite well.
-
yup I agree with Clauss the media buttons work very well and the sound is amazing even with out the mythical subwooffer
-
How's the bass without a sub?
-
just fine ...
-
-
haha nice!
-
lol good pic.

im gonna buy the all-powerful in about a month but i want to know if i can upgrade from the p8600 to the qx9300? I called the geek squad about this (cuz Im new to this) and they were saying i wouldn't be able to get full power from the quad... now im asking yall experts if this is true or what other solution i have? i just don't want to pay 1000 for something that costs 500-650 on ebay... thanks
-
You'll be able to upgrade to the qx9300 with no problems if you buy the stock P8600.
-
Geeksquad...around here they are a joke. I asked one to add a hard drive to my desktop just to see his answer, he had to go talk to his supervisor.
Oh..um..On topic..The m17x..has nice lighting. And...the t9600 is OC'able....Yup..on topic -
thx phinagle... im gonna pay them (GS) to do it but is it easy to swap processors? and how will that effect my warranty?
-
The hardest part is getting to where the processor is. You can see how to do it in the M17x service manual.
Swapping the CPU does not void your warranty with Dell/AW but the new CPU and anything you break while swapping will not be covered. If you need to send the laptop in for repairs you will have to replace the old P8600 back into the laptop. -
I appreciate your help phinagle... the GS guy was saying something about the motherboard not being able to handle or allow the full power of the qx... is that true? what do i have to do after I install the qx... software wise? are there driver updates or something (sorry Im a newb)
-
On some notebooks going from a dual to a quad is not supported but on the M17x there are no issues.
Remove the old CPU. Install the Quad. Apply Thermal Paste. Reinstall the heatsink. Put the Laptop back together and you're good to go. -
-
thx a ton phinagle...
lmao @ mandrake comment -
never listen to BB they are the rejects from dell, hp and MSI ETC....

what If I got a job at bestbuy next summer?.... I is a failure
-
There is an exception to every rule!

I'd drop 5,000 on this lappy with the Q9300, 8 GB of 1333 mhz RAM and 280 SLI. But I want my next lappy to have SSD's. Think the prices will drop before the next model comes out?
-
Forget the 8GB of 1333Mhz (do you have a specific use for that much RAM?) and you can have the laptop for under $3500 with the QX9300.
I've seen predictions from news sites that SSD prices should drop considerably around Christmas time so it's not too far off. I myself only intend to buy a single 500Gb HDD and buy a SSD later on. -
Im sure the performance difference with 1333 RAM is almost nothing anyway. Im just fantasizing.
-
yea i have my 1066 ram @ 1333 in BIOS
so its kinda stupid
but its CL is lower ... -
-
-
Why not is because 8Gb is an expensive upgrade that only the most techie of laptop users will really make use of.
4Gb is all you need to be a l33t gamer "grrrl" -
The 8GB really isn't that much more than 4GB. Who knows, a couple years from now, games might use it.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
in a few years from now that ram will be hella cheap as well
... it's a cost to benefit ratio 1:0
-
-
Heh. You could take the $249-299 you'd spend on the extra 4Gb of RAM you won't use and buy an SSD now that you would.
-
Yeah, you'll see MAJOR speed improvements of SSD while 6GB out of your 8GB sit unused.
SSD's are one of the most sure-fire ways to get big performance increases now.... -
is this conversation actually serious ???
................. -
-
O ok ...
get 4 gigs standard since no game beside GTA 4 uses that much and 1 HD then use the money you saved on your RAM and get a SSD off newegg like a OCZ vertex.
Use a 30 gig vertex for OS and programs and store your games on the HD -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
What he said ^^^^
-
-
that still applys for the future as well
-
-
removed ::::and the game would have to be MASSIVE since its alll stored in the ram
Unless you have such a crappy port like GTA 4 that can use like 2.5 gigs of ram.....
besides when discussing notebook gaming never even think about planning 1 year from now -
Desktop gaming machines already use 8GB of RAM. It's not exactly a stretch to imagine this scenario. I also never said anything about planning 1 year from now. Also, high resolution's would just be more of a burden on the GPU, not the RAM.
-
i understand the GPU's Vram is what holds the textures/ ETC
Good luck with what ever your trying to do .... i really haven't figured it out ...
If your just talking about random stuff then ok , but if your not serious about getting it soon then im done here
Good luck
will -
-
i have no idea the difference in GPU Vram and Ram
Funny that i know its called Vramor that I have explained it to people before ... since people asked about the difference in the 4850's in the Asus W90p are 512mb each and the M17 are 1 gigs each letting you play @ higher resolutions
btw the effect is minimal on your usage....
would have to be a massive game as well -
