It doesn't. Motionblur just makes things look a bit more fluid. Try it for yourself. Have it completely off, then put it on full and observe te difference. It doesn't do anything for the frame rate just that quick panning and swinging around, you'll see a much fluid more film like motion.

So I don't know how to monitor cpu and gpu temps and what is happening while they are under stress but I was monitoring my FPS in battlefield 3 just now. I had my m17x r3 lifted about and inch and it seemed to help and then after an hour my fps dropped to about 4-7 after being between 30-50 and the fans went on heavy. Is this considered throttling? It only happened once today I dont know if lifting my pc had anything to do with it? Also widezu69 I believe you said you can run on ULTRA with perfect FPS. Do you use a cooling mat or just lift the back end of your pc up? I just want to make sure this isn't a permanent problem and that your throttle fix will in doubt fix my problem.

...also how do i monitor temps of gpu and cpus to see whats going on with the card and processor

Get an XM CPU (2920xm or 2960xm) and overclock it. It's not that difficult.

BF3 plays better on my R2 with 11.10 without the 11.2 caps. Lag free (ish)
12.1 made me jerk around like a jack in the box.

It's kinda difficult to say whether or not I prefer my desktop or R3 for BF3... running 6970's CXF on my desktop is kinda nice as well. Trying to decide if I'm going to keep the R3 or not. Makes the LAN parties easy on the back!!!

Hey guys , ever since i started playing BF3 (this christmas), i've been having these spike-like FPS drops similar to those that us R1 users used to get with our CPU throttling before BIOS A06/A07.

Fortunately, or unfortunately , i don't know, it's not CPU nor GPU throttling.

I used ThottleStop to monitor the CPU and got 100% CKMOD all the time , and GPU-Z to monitor the GPU and got full clocks during gameplay. So hardware throttling should be out of discussion.

It's much better with the 290.53 nvidia driver which is supposed to clear the stuttering in BF3, but FPS drops are still very present and annoying. It's totally killing my gameplay experience. It will just go from 40-50 fps down to 1-10 fps for a few seconds, then come back struggling in a few framerate ups and downs.

Graphic settings don't matter. It's absolutely the same both on Low and High. I have tried console commands like disabling triple buffering and renderdevice.forcerenderaheadlimit 1, disabling Dx11, disabling v-sync.

I'd also like to mention that i noticed my Battlefield 3 is running under DX11 (using the console command Renderdevice.dx11, it came back as true) , even though my cards support only DX10.1

Anyone else have this problem? Any advice would be appreciated too

Edit - It's similar to this. Mine is not as often Battlefield 3 FPS Spiking/Stuttering #4 - YouTube

I aplogize for initially starting a new thread but i thought posting here would seem like hijacking o.o :D Thanks for moving it here

Edit 2 - I added pictures of my problem with during the spike and after the spike.

    During the spike 1
    After the spike 1
    During the spike 2
    After the spike 2

As you can see, they are quite short but extremely deadly and annoying.

guys, did anybody like the campaign of BF3, I finally had the time to play it, even though it is very very short, I think it was good, especially the final mission where things connect was good, definitely it was not like MW1 good, but it was better than all previous BF campaigns, just my thoughts

sounds to me like a latency issue. Do you have lag issues playing on other online games as well?

I played some of it and i found it more enjoyable than the Call Of Duty Modern Warfare series. It simply feels better.

The other only online game i play is APB : Reloaded , and my latency issues are very rare. In BF3 i always join the servers with the lowest ping (30-32ms). I also played from two different locations with different ISPs and it's the same. It just feels like it's not a lag problem. It runs perfectly until these fps spikes occur. It's like the CPU/GPU finds something else to focus on rather than the game for a few seconds.

Also regarding latency, BF3 doesn't let you see your own ping , so i always asked people on the server. It always came back as less than 50ms so it's definitely not ping.

Meh I still haven't finished it. Just didn't feel that drawn in. Mainly because I've been too preoccupied with the multiplayer. That stuff is awesome. Although I finished MW3 in 2 sittings. I guess I prefer the story in CoD and the gameplay in BF3.

Well , luck seems to have struck me. I have seen someone on youtube saying they turned on HPET in the BIOS. I have no such thing , i turned off Intel Virtualization Technology. I also disabled my antivirus and firewall , provided by ESET Smart Security , and closed a few background programs.

It seems to have done the trick. :)

Edit : This did not fix them completely, but reduced stuttering drastically.

What i did to fix them was setting priority of bf3.exe in task manager to High , and in Set Affinity , disabling the first CPU, while leaving the other three enabled.

    hi all,

    i just bought my first alienware m17x r3 :
    cpu i7-2670qm 2,2 ghz , 12 gig, m4 crucial, 580 gtm

However, i'm a bit disapointed with the performance. I tried to run battlefield 3 on ultra setting, but framerate is quite low. 25 - 35 frames per second. Also on high settings, it goes around 35 and sometimes dropped to 12.

I already installed a8 bios and put the throttle fix also in place. Also installed the new drivers of nvidia , but it doesn't help

    What i'm doing wrong ?

Stealth mode doesn't exists in the R3. @supercoase what were you expecting your BF3 performance to be? I get around 40fps OC'd. Seriously your expectations are way too high.

is it normal to be getting like from 70+ FPS to around 40FPS sometimes??

    Heres my specs:

    i7 940xm
    4GB RAM
RAID 0 7200RPM hard drive setup
    SLI GTX 285m

Im using the auto settings too which turned almost everything on Low and OFF. Only texture is on High (the first settings) running at 1920x1200 also. This seems really low IMO, i feel like on low settings i should be getting like 80FPS constant or something.....not dipping into 40's. Im running the latest Nvidia beta drivers also.

You might be getting FPS drops, try writing render.perfoverlayenable 1 in the console. The performance graph should show in the left corner. See if you get big spikes in the CPU. If you do , try and disable Hyperthreading in the BIOS , setting priority of bf3.exe to high and in Set Affinity, disabling the first cpu (CPU0) for bf3, in task manager. If it's the GPUs causing you trouble, in Nvidia Control Panel , set maximum pre-rendered frames to 0 , enable threaded optimization, and maybe try single-gpu mode.

Hope this helps. But don't worry , i'm getting similar performance. I think it is the game coding itself.

Hey Alek, I was wondering if you ever got to solve your issue with the FPS drops as I also have the same problem. I have dual 280m like you with a new QX9300 upgrade. What does disabling the first CPU do? How does that help? Also, what settings are you playing on for BF3? I initially started playing with high settings, but it ran only 30-35 FPS average and with FPS drops, it would fall to less than 10. I've also overclocked my GPUs and CPUs to test it but it seems like it causes more problems for me. (doesn't seem like they're stable enough) Any suggestions/comments? Thanks!

    My system specs are:
    - Alienware M17x R1
    - Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300 @ 3.06GHz (i've tried overclocking to 3.2 GHz which is stable except when I'm on BF3)
    - Dual GTX 280m (clocked at 600/970/1460)
    - 8 GB RAM 1066MHz

Hey there! I managed to fix my FPS drop spikes by going into Task Manager , setting priority for bf3.exe to high , and in Set Affinity, disabling CPU0.

I'm not sure how exactly it works but it does, i someone on the Battlelog forums suggested this, saying it worked for him. I believe there are optimization issues with Battlefield 3 and multi-core cpus, especially core 2 quads.

I play on Auto, which sets all to low except Textures, which are set to high, and 1900x1200 resolution. I mostly play Recon , and FPS is very important in sniping, so i prefer decent graphics and 50-60 fps rather than amazing graphics and ~35 fps. As for suggestions, go ahead and close all memory draining processes, maybe even turn off your firewall/antivirus. And very important, as you're a R1 user just like me, try and follow this guide by Batboy which will help increase overall system performance and should help with the drops in BF3 too.

And add me on Battlelog :) - Aleko123

Question : What did you use to overclock your GPUs and what is your impression? Is it worth it?

    renderdevice.forcerenderaheadlimit 2

That helped a good amount with stutter for me, generally get good FPS with a 670mhz overclock. The marketplace map, can't remember the name is probably the worst in terms of FPS. Thats where i drop to 40's a lot. Everything else stays at a constant 60-70fps with some dips into 50's.

That console setting btw has 4 options, 0, 1, 2, 3. 2 worked the best for me

Guys what drivers are you using to play this? I am currently on 11.10 (the non BSOD version) and I am currently playing on medium settings as anything higher is pish. Also can anyone post their settings file? Joker did so a while back on BFBC2 and they worked flawlessly - which was odd since if I configured the same settings in-game it didn't work too well.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll give it a try and see where I end up! As for your question, I overclocked my GPUs with Nvidia's Ntune (which you can get from their drivers download). It then shows up on your NVIDIA control panel that you can adjust clock speeds on CPU, RAM as well as GPUs. Only thing you can't do with it is adjust voltage for any of them. I'm still not quite sure if its worth overclocking them at the moment since I am still messing around and experimenting with the numbers. I'll try to let you know as soon as I can find some good numbers that show improvement in FPS and seem stable :)

I'll also add you on battlelog when I have the chance to play again! (I am busy this weekend :( You can add me also if want - bbjai

I tried playing Battlefield in my R2 with 740 and 5870 CF. I had installed 11.10. I have frequent FPS drops and no gun bug.
The game runs perfectly fine in my R1 with 280M SLI.
What is the best driver for R2? Could anyone please give me the links for the drivers and caps?
I tried installing 11.12 but its not working at all.

Also any new BIOS out for this card? It has Dell A01 bios and I don't know if some new bios came out.

Update: the game crashes each and everytime with the Dell stock drivers in SP,MP or Coop.
