M17x - Hard Drive Caddy ( secondary Drive)

US HD caddy update, i got my caddy today... but I got mroe than expected.

I got 2 HD caddys *yup, i got 2... go figure) they both say HDD1, with all 4 screews on them.

Second I got some sort of adapter to isntall tHe HD

Third, i got 1 screw (guess for the actual Hd into the cady).

Alienware/dell is sometines kind fo wierd i guess

 

the adapter is the interposer. How many did you get?

from the picture I saw a few pages back, looked like that interposer is identical to the one my HP DV9000 series notebook used, anyone wanna see if they are the same part? Then you could just ebay the hp part number pretty easily.

 

probably is. it's just an interface, I doubt it's proprietary.

 

Well if that is the case, then this could make it much easier to install 2nd hdd's, as that is they key peace that is needed, the rest is just to more firmly hold the hdd in place but is not as necessary.

 

I just checked my packing list to see if there were any additional item numbers. unfortunately all i see is the TRDD2, with a description that reads SVC:BRKT:HDD:2ND:M17X
I guess i got lucky then

are you saying that a 2nd hdd caddy was included with your new system that you only ordered 1 hdd in?

(please say yes!)

 

Now, what i am saying is that I ONLY got 1 HD caddy, with my system.

Then I called support to get a caddy (to sintall a secondary HDD)

And somehow they sent 2 caddys, one interposer and one screw

 

They were supposed to start correcting this on the line at some point but even with peoples latest shipments they didnt have them in there. I will know tomorrow though for sure.

 

I see. I will be ordering mine in the next week or two, looks like I will be doing it over phone and insisting that 2nd hard drive caddy be sent with system as I intend to populate it in the future (about 12 seconds after unboxing).

 

Second HDD bracket on the way for me. Free, of course.

It took about 10 mins.

I ordered my M17x around the 23rd of June.

 

Who did you contact WaR? Alienware or Dell?

 

you have to call alienware....tech support....I think its option 4 when you call in. Have your system tag ready when you call.

 

Yup. that is pretty much it. Do what it says below (I took it from the first page) and they will transfer you.

 

I just ordered mine with 1 HD, hope it comes with the second caddy.

If not, I know what to do, thanks for the info guys!

Yeah they have not corrected it on the line yet . i got mine yesterday and no extra caddy.

 

I still haven't gotten mine yet. I called Alienware and the rep I spoke with wasn't sure why it hadn't shipped yet and that the order was still showing as "pending". I wanna RAID0 so bad...

they were out of stock last week so they shipped it monday

 

Wierd, I received my 2nd HDD kit today - with 1 screw even though I requested they update to 4 - however my order status (had to pay for it in UK) is still showing pre-production with an EDD of 4th August. I have a feeling I'm going to get another one - If I order 2 more I'll have enough mounting screws LOL

 

Wow again, I ordered my kit TRDD2 yesterday and Fedex delivered it today! Dell is doing it good, also all the screws and such are there!

 

Called in and got mine on order for free. Located in Canada Btw. Took 47 mins.

 

Anyone yet received an M17x with the second caddy that didn't ask for it yet?

 

So since you need a service tag to order this, I assume you can't do so before you receive your laptop?

 

I ordered a caddy/interposer/screw kit from the European Alienware technical support today. Had to pay some shipping for it, so it's not exactly free.

 

I'm wondering the same thing.... I might be ordering one soon and this info would be very helpful so I know what kind of HD config to order.

 

the next shipment is the one that is saposed to be comign with them


Also i got mien but with one screw.... BUT come on now guys im The_Moo™ i have a whole bucket of computer screws (literally)

 

Then The_Moo™ should send me 3 because I also got only 1!

 

I always thought The_Moo had a few screws loose.....Ooops, I mean loose screws

People starting receiving the 2nd HDD bits with their orders without needing to ask at the beginning of last week I think it was so ye should be included if you ordered next week.

Recieved my M17x on Thursday (23rd) with no HDD fittings included. Had two totally different experiences with UK support trying to get one -

Emailed Dell support and this was their reply...

Then I phoned Alienware Tech Support. They seemed not at all suprised by my request and have shipped one out to me for £20

So make sure you talk to the tech people rather than a salesdroid.

I was told that it should take two days to get here. Now I need to find a good, cheap, 120GB SSD.

 

When you all requested the brackets for the 2nd hard drive bay did you receive an email from Dell sounding almost like they were going to want you to send the computer back to Dell to get it? I know it may be an automated message from the Dell support system.

The thought of living without my M17X now is a nightmare.

It would have to be very serious to send it back. Most repairs are done at your home and even with replacements they'll send you a new one before sending back the old one. Much better support than most companies.

 

i just emailed alienware support and they are sending me a 2nd bracket. Now the windows 7 upgrade coupon is a nightmare..

 

Don't go through Dell. Call Alienware tech support. Dell will tell you all kinds of stories while with alienware support it's a matter of givingt them your System's Tag, telling them you need the bracket and arrange payment for shipping. Alienware's support seems stellar and most helpful compared to Dell's.

 

Well, mine arrived this morning. So I now have a 320GB boot drive to go with my 500GB data drive. Thank the gods for Acronis software and my eSATA dock - which made the whole process quick and painless.

Now all I need do is wait for SSD prices to drop another 20% or so.

 

How did they charge you? Did you give them a cc?

 

I called customer service, to complain that my second hard drive caddy wasn't in my M17x, and they said they would send one out to me.

It got to Purolator on Friday, and I logged into Dell 5 minutes ago to review my warranty and it's showing they charged me 99.99 for the second hard drive caddy. I can't even begin to express the level of anger I am feeling right now, I am not paying a cent for that HDD caddy. I just hope they don't give me a hard time tomorrow.

 

I don't know, I gave my girlfriend the cost of my laptop in cash, and we bought the laptop with her credit card.

I not sure if it has charged it to her credit card yet or not, but when I log into dell it's showing the price for my laptop, and a new charge of 99.99 for a HDD bracket.

 

I hope that people are right about the newer orders coming with the 2nd caddy, so many people are having issues getting theirs...

And that just doesn't seem right at all. The caddy shouldn't cost that much in the first place, especially if they didn't even tell you they were going to charge you.

 

In the UK it cost £19.97 including sales tax @ 15% and delivery (approx $33)

 

i unno what the fuss is about screws mine is in with no screws .......

my 2nd HHd caddy was ordered last week. i havent recieved yet to see if i got all the parts included but i do know this that im getiing it for FREE

 

also ordered one last week. nothing arrived yet. called them up, they said all drive caddies are pending at the moment. (parts unavailable). will ship out as soon as they receive them.
