I spoke to a Dell employee today, and I asked out of hope by-the-by if there were any date's for the Release on the 5870 CF's. And for once.. they actually had an answer
He told me? 20th May.
Don't believe it.. I reckon it could be longer at this rate.. but lets wait and see! -
Hopefully mine will be in boxing by then.

It seems that there will be a new bios (A05) coming out within 1-2 hours adding the VT support for M17x-R2. I'm curious if that means anything regadging the 5870CF as well.

Jesus told me 21/5/2010

Actually the release date is: December 21, 2012. That's right, the Mayan's predicted the release of the Crossfire 5870m on that day which would usher in the end of the world because of it's awesome all powerful power. My information comes after I signed an NDA agreement with Michael Dell the other day but screw it, this is too important to keep to myself. They expect to have working faizian cores by mid 2012 right in time for it's release.

Cheers,
During an online chat with Alienware/Dell Europe today they told me that 5870 CF would be released tomorrow or by Monday in Europe.
I Was also told the reason it was not released earlier was due to supply problems.
Also was told that Dell was really surprised by the overwhelming demand for the 5870 CF. Something they didn't anticipate.
Originally ordered with the dual 4870 and then changed order to the single 5870 and then changed my order for a price drop. All three orders said shipping on May 21'st.
Just guessing but have thought for a while that the CF will be released before the 21'st to allow people to change their orders and avoid returns.
Anyways the release date I was told was for Europe. Perhaps Dell wants to get paid before the Euro plunges in value any further. I assume Canada and USA release will be around the same time.
Thanks for all the information everyone has posted on the issue. Has been fun following the discussion. -

someone need to create a poll of who has the best rumor.
-
I do..you can't beat the faizian core and 5/5 rumors. Though the 5/5 came from a Dell employee (not rep) so that's more his fault than mine
BTW, I've also heard 5/13 from him so there may be some merit to this date.

I was not getting the information I wanted from India last week so I also contacted Alienware technical support in Costa Rica and was told last week that the single 5870 would definately CF. The rep asked a 3'rd level tech (engineer) who said it most certainly would.
Also just my personal opinion but too many people are making a huge mistake not ordering the SSD drive. I know these drives are small and still expensive but you can always add an extra hard drive down the road when you need more space.
I use SSD on my desktop and would never go back to a traditional drive. The traditional drive in my opinion is already obsolete and well on its way out.
Here is a comparison guide for mobile video cards. Notice the 4870 x 2 is higher on the list than a single 5870 but when you look at the benchmarks for Cryis the 4870 x2 is only 52 frames and the single 5870 is a tad lower at 48 frames.
I thought it was also rather stilly to charge customers $300 more for the 4870 CF when the single 5870 is almost the same benchmark and has mutliple other features that the 4870 x2 doesn't.

I was told that I will see it when I see it. I believe this is true, but who knows anymore.

The 128 Gig is only $250 more. The advantage of the SSD is that you will be fighting the hoards while your friends are still booting their computers up.
-
There were other topic on single 5870 (and how it compares to 4870 CF) and it's a bit slower.
SSD is quite a bit better but way more expensive. Nothing to see, move along. Let's try not to steer from the main topic. -
-
What I do is store my operating system on the SSD and than use a traditional drive for storing photo and video.
The price of SSD is falling rapidly. Buy only the capacity that you immediately need and more when the price falls. At the present time a 500G SSD would cost almost as much as a lap top. I think every 4 months you will see a big drop in SSD price. -

Yes, Windows 7 64 on SSD and any program or game I am currently running. You can load software super fast on the SSD drive. When I am done with a game I delete it and if I want to play again at a later date I reinstall the latest version from Steam.
There is no need to defrag on SSD. I was blown away by the 5970 but if it came right down to it I would get rid of it long before the SSD drive. -

Boot time is dependant on your operting system and a host of other issues. I am trying to be honest and not guild the lilly. Don't take my word for it. Here google SSD drive. SSD is like ram, it is super fast.

So getting back on topic, we're finally on the big day to see if 5870 CF's will come out or not. I'm not holding my breath or anything, but it would be amazingly good if it did come out today.
Things that might point towards it? I was on the Dell Alienware store site.. and I don't know what I clicked but a strange message I've NEVER seen depsite going onto Dell store for many years - You do not have permission to access this page, and its wasn't the same sign that comes up on otherwebsites.
Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself.. but I'll take every bit of gossip/info that comes my way -

Getting back to SSDs...
I assume I could have the SSD as my boot partition, and data stored on my hard drive, right?
I could handle this kind of arrangement...
Getting back to the main topic...an Alien landed in a UFO and told me they are skipping the CF 5870 and going straight to the CF 6870 because a new quantum faizain core has just been perfected... -

I'm on the phone trying to cancel the current order but the lady says that they cannot cancel it because it is in its last phase of building, only thing they can do is send it to me, then I can return it for a refund then make a new order. I'm waiting for a supervisor right now
