I've got an M17 x R4 coming in the next week and had assumed that the Dell XPS laptop bag from my XPS M1710 would be big enough but am now doubting that it will fit. I understand the size difference but the M1710 fits a little loose in the bag.

    M1710 - 1.7"x15.5"x11.3"
    M17x R4 - 1.75"x16.14"x11.97"

I'm wondering if anybody has tried to fit the AW into the XPS bag?

What do you guys think about the Everki Beacon with the Everki Commute 18.4" sleeve for my brand new "hopefully about to ship" M17x R4?

I have a Slappa MASK - I am very happy with it. It fits perfectly. I do add a little extra padding at the bottom and top corners, but that's my cautiousness. I will post full details when I have some downtime.

Is it my imagination or is the forum search on this site permanently broken?

I like the Slappa bags but can't justify spending £100+ on a bag personally.

I was really impressed with the astro scout, but i can't justify the extra $40 bucks to ship to canada. I was concerned the everki beacon would be too bulky, but a deal came up for it for $ 60 at canada direct. It is a large bag, but it wasnt overly bulky. i haven't taken the bag out on a long excursion yet, but I'm traveling next week so I'll let you know how it feels.

Never mind about the Everki Commute 18" sleeve, thought I read that it would fit in the Everki Beacon, but I read the wrong dimensions. If anyone has a good sleeve to recommend for a M17x R4, PM me or post here.

Yes, I have. Technically its an older Alienware backpack I bought when I got my M1710 in 2007. But my m17x fits in there (albiet a snug fit).

Earlier in the thread Dookie had mentioned a cheap sleeve which I picked up on amazon- its somewhat thin - provides a nice little added protection ( and fixes any zipper contacting the machine issues in the scout while still fitting nicely in the main compartment). Not sure if you want something thicker but the price is pretty good and it fits the m17x fairly nice.

I managed to get a cracking deal off eBay for the Alienware Orion backpack and a Coolermaster U3 for £85 (excluding postage).

Really pleased with the backpack. Plenty of space and loads of pockets. Well made and thought out bag. The M17x fits in to it nicely with space to spare.

I just noticed your response - thank you.

I've been using the XPS bag for a week now and it is very tight. So tight that I'm worried that over time the corners of the laptop will show wear from squeezing it in every time. I was just about to pull the trigger on an Everki Beacon bag when I thought I'd take a second look at the XPS bag. What did I find? I found that the extra padding in the top corners of the bag are removable!! I pulled them out and boom $90 showed up in my wallet!! There is still padding in those corners so that's good. What a fantastic discovery since I do really love that XPS bag - tons of storage and all that.

Excellent. I don't use my bag much, maybe once a month if that. So I'm not too concerned about the corners getting worn down from rubbing against the upper padding. The only reason I keep it is because it has FAR more storage than the new Orion bag. My friend's got one of those and boy, I tell ya, I can fit twice as much crap in my bag than he can in his.

There are bags that exist which are bigger then the new Orion!? The thing is like Hermione's handbag man! It swallows stuff up. One review I read before getting it, the reviewer managed to get 3 laptops in it with room to spare! That's plenty enough for me!

Mine just seems bigger than my friend's Orion bag. I can definitely get two laptops in mine. Three would be pushing it. The Orion can probably do three because it has three compartments. But I carry around two separate small tool sets, about 2 dozen different cables and testers, 30 or so program DVDs, etc. It's got space for all of that. The Orion doesn't have multiple small compartments, just a small, medium, and large. So, therefore, I think it would be a close race, but if the Orion can get three notebooks inside comfortably, it wins.

First impression of the Everki Titan:

I'm using it as carry-on baggage to move from Australia to Taiwan.
    It easily fits:

    Alienware m17x R4 + charger
    Acer 721 + charger
    Toshiba 500gb external hdd
Seagate 2tb external hdd + charger
    Sony Nex C3 + charger + bag
Audio Techica m50 inside their own bag
    A jacket
A folder with some flight documents
    2x notebooks and a dictionary
A bag with all the cables I need to connect\recharge stuff
PS Vita inside a rigid cover
A pluche toy of a shark (the size of a PS Vita)
RAT 7 mice + it's small box of extra bits and pieces
    Water bottle
    Pens
    A watch

Needles to say it's WAY over the weight limit for a carry-on backpack, but it's impressive to see how much stuff I was able to fit in it, and there's still a lot of empty pockets. Excellent build quality as well.

    Hey Guys,

Just ordered an M17x R4 and I need a bag or backpack that will hold it and my work laptop, which is a Lenovo Thinkpad T420 (14").

I wanted to post here, instead of the accessories forum, because Alienware owners face special challenges that other laptop owners do not, because of the size of their laptops.

I've searched and found the following articles/threads, and while there are some good suggestions in there, none of them are quite perfect.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/accessories/470672-backpack-two-laptops.html

These are two that I have seen mentioned in multiple places:

The Brain Bag Laptop Backpack by: TOM BIHN

Boa flow XL, black-red | Laptop Backpacks by booq

    Does anyone have any experience?

    Thanks!

I've used this backpack in the past for my Dell XPS M1710. On-top of carrying my laptop, I also used it to carry along a few textbooks around campus. It gets heavy, but SwissGear makes a solid/strong backpack - with the necessary support to carry the weight.

My first one lasted several years. Decided to go ahead and buy another. (I'm going to be using it to carry my M17x when it comes in.)

I use the Alienware backpack for the M17x (I do not know it's specific name, sorry).

I can cram all of this in it:

    Alienware M17x r3
    Alienware M14x r1
    Alienware M11x r2
    Apple 2012 MacBook Air
The power cords for all of these machines
Somewhat large Nvidia rectangular box for 3D glasses
    Third-Gen iPad
    Apple Bluetooth external keyboard
Plethora of adapters and video cables, etc
    External DVD player
Alienware box for the TactX mouse (and the actual mouse itself :p)
    Alienware mousepad
Leather bound notebook (little over half an inch thick)
Bose headphone case (MIE2i so it's it not that large, typically goes in my pocket unless traveling for some time)
    Dock for iPad
Additional pair of 3d glasses (outside, attached to shoulder strap)
Droid Razr Maxx (outside, attached to shoulder strap)
    External harddrive
Several USB sticks (when I don't loose them xD)
At least 5-10 screen cleaning wipes and some pieces of microfiber

I weighed the backpack fully loaded awhile ago, I think it was between 50-60 pounds.

    Holy crap!

That is the Orion bag mentioned in the second post. Two votes for that one so far. Thanks for your input.

    No problem! :)

I've had Alienware branded backpacks for a while, some of the older ones are really nice. My father has travelled the world with one and it still looks brand new.

Just go give you a bit of some cons about the Orion bag: the alienhead starts to scratch almost immediately... But once it gets scratched enough it starts to look cool again. xD

i bought the everki beacon. would easily hold two m17x. the everki titan is larger if you need more space. heard lot of good things about the astro scout. those were the two i had it narrowed down to and ended up with the everki cause i liked its pockets better.

I'm looking for a well padded shoulder carrying case (do not want a backpack)

What is the consensus regarding the best bag of that style for an M17x ?

Can I get some recommendations on huge bags for around $50 online? Used is okay but new is preferred....
Need it huge because I will have to be carrying my M17xR3, the power brick, folders, spiral notebooks, etc etc...
Has to be a BACKpack, I can't stand using shoulder bags (both physically painful and just not my style)... And i don't want to be carrying a little bag around with me - please, backpacks only, no attempting to convince me to get something else.
This is the kind of thing I'm looking for except... at about 1/2 of the price...
Amazon.com: SwissGear 17" Gray Notebook Backpack: Clothing

Hey all. I posted in the backpack/carrying case thread but with school coming in a few weeks I really need a faster response because, well, shipping is gonna take some time and everything, so I hope it's okay that I made a thread with this
I am looking for a huge backpack that will fit the M17xR3, charger, and a few textbooks (though I can carry textbooks if necessary).. Something durable. Looks don't really matter, but it has to be a BACKpack - my shoulders don't "like" messenger-style bags and I really dont want to be carrying it around in my hand.
Anything around $50, up to 60 with shipping, would be great if you could recommend it. Targus and Swissgear have some nice ones, but ones that are big enough seem to start at 80-90 and I dont have that kind of $$$ right now.
    Thanks all :)

From what I've seen with a decent amount of googling, there aren't very many choices at all - anything cheaper than around $50 is either too small for the laptop or one of those backpacks that has space for the laptop and the charger and that's about it...

The Orion backpack seems to be okay for me right now. Seems strong, has the necessary compartments, nicely fits the M17x.
Some have spoken about the lack of quality, but so far it seems to be fine. I'll report back if it starts to tear apart on me.

Seems to start at $60 though, so maybe it's not a good idea.

I read through a few of the earlier pages on this thread, but it seemed very focused on the m17x r3 and later.

I'm looking for a new carrying bag for my r2. I like the look of the XPS bag i saw on the last page, and would like to know if it can handle my r2 system plus an XPS m1530, etc, and if it can, where i can find one.

    Thanks

i really like the look of the bag you have in here. is this your xps bag?

Hey everyone...I asked this in the owner's lounge but no replies for several days. Saw this thread and thought perhaps it would get more attention here.

Does anyone know what the differences are between the messenger bags for the M17x and the M18x? It looks like the one for the M18x is slightly bigger, obviously...but the dimensions on the Dell website show the M17x with more depth. Are they configured differently on the inside? Is there any specific reason to avoid the M18x bag since I have the M17x?

Reason I ask is that the M18x bag is $20 cheaper...and if there is no valid reason to get the M17x bag instead, I'll save the money and go with the larger one. That way if I ever go with an M18x, I'll already have a bag that fits.

well i have read the whole 79 pages of this thread and am still undecided on what backpack to get for my m17x r3.

my needs are quite basic, i only need the backpack to hold my r3 plus the power brick and mouse mat, the main use will be for general storage and the odd trip out when i have to work away from home, price wise i would like to stay below £100 uk pounds.
i love my r3 so it needs comfortable resting place :)

I just received the Orion backpack that I ordered from OfficeMax and found that the RF shielded phone pouch has been eliminated as a feature. That was actually something I wanted. MobileEdge still had it listed as a feature on their website. When I contacted MobileEdge, they said that ME-AWBP2.0 backpack did experience some running changes and upgrades. And now I see they pulled the description from their website. Hopefully the changes and upgrades have fixed any of the quality issues that others have complained about.

The inside of mine matches the tactical backup. I attached pics that show the difference, first pic is new version, second is old version.

as above, i have read all 79 pages of the thread further down this page and i am still none the wiser. i have started a new thread in order to catch someones eye.
today i spent the day carrying my r3 round with me while looking in comets, pcworld, currys, staples and lastly argos, could i find a backpack for the now lead weight i was dragging round with me, no i could not they all had wenger packs but all were for the 15.3-16" laptops, i would of had more chance of developing a 2nd ar$ehole than finding a backpack today.
looked at the superdry packs these were nice but the r3 did not fit :(

so the point of this thread:- i am hoping that some r3 owners will spot this and if they have a backpack that their r3 fits into that they will post the make on here for me to consider.

    many thanks

I have Targus Voyager Backpack Laptop Case. Along with the R3, I pack the power supply, mouse, external HDD and a couple of school books. I'll occasionally bring to school or work from time to time and it doesn't feel too heavy for a laptop of this size.

I am really happy with my slappa backpack. I have had it for almost 2 years now since I got my R3 :) I think it'll even fit the 18x

Similar needs and the Orion worked out for me. Great backpack.

Still a lot of commentary on the r3, but i've got an r2. I like the look of the AW backpack that was shown a couple of pages back, and would like more info on it.

The Orion M17x is perfect for the M17x R2 as well. I had it for a while until i bought the larger M18x version so i can carry both M17x's.

Didn't see the Astro before i bought them but i think i would pick that over the Orion if i had a choice.

Got this for $60 n' tax at Microcenter yesterday.
    Amazon.com: Toshiba PA1500U-1BS8 18-Inch Extreme Backpack: Electronics
It's a bit tight to fit in the M17xR3, meaning you have to wiggle it a little as you're putting it in, but it's nice and snug once its in and doesn't push at the corner of the zippers like some backpacks do.
It also has TONS of space for other things (College books!) in it, no comment on quality as of yet though.

I have a Slappa MASK backpack. Got it about a year and a half ago for my G73 and I love it. Tough backpack, it goes with me to work every shift (I'm a Paramedic, so i'm not exactly easy on it) and the G73 still looks like new. I'll be using it for my M17x as well.

I got the red lining, Piecemaker TNT insert and the KOA face.

They email me discounts, there's a current promotion - 15% off everything until August 31st. The code is BTS15

    Enjoy!
