Beginning to wish I had as well. Damn you, Amazon and your targeted advertising. I looked at that bag once after I bought the SwissGear bag, and I'm taunted by Amazon every day with the ad for the Orion. The SwissGear bag is nice, but it's a bit tight on the top corners. So far no scratching, so I guess I'm frustrated for nothing. :)

I've been scrolling through this thread looking for a good recommendation of a bag. So far, I really like the slappa mask bags, but I'm not sure how that would look on me since I'm 5'1"

Any suggestions would be great, thank you!

how much stuff do you carry? if you carry everything minus a desktop computer with you than i would recommend the titan but if only computer and a couple other things than many work from slapp to orion to beacon and some others. You need to give us an idea of what you will take with you. I can barely fit everything into the beacon and than i am stuck without any room for my book for class which is another. Wish i could have gotten the titan but for another 100 bucks i'll have to suffice.

I'll have the laptop, one or two binders and 2 paperback textbooks. Hopefully the Slappa would be ok.

I have a Slappa MASK, and it holds a lot of stuff! Depending on the thickness of your text books (and binders), I don't think you would have an issue with the Slappa. I usually carry 2-3 textbooks and a few clipboards, and I've never had a room issue ...been more worried about my back giving out under all the weight :p

The binders are 1" and the text books are small enough that I can fit into the binder if needed, but that's only 2 days out of the week that I'd carry that much stuff. Most of the time it'll just be the laptop and my wallet & cell phone.

Any other recommendations besides the Slappa backpacks? I was looking into the Timbuk2 bags, but I didn't see that any of them were big enough for the m17x :(

Oh yeah, that would be no problem for the Slappa MASK bag! I've tried about a half dozen packs, and I've not found one with as much protection and room as the Slappa for the price.

I just ordered a Slappa Mask DSLR backpack from Amazon and a High Five face from Slappa. I wanted the DSLR setup for vacation, when I'll have my camera, and the plain High Five face for everyday. I cannot wait to try it out! I just wanted to say thanks to everyone in this thread for your posts, which helped me with my decision. It's disappointing how many manufacturers of laptop backpacks, coolers, lap desks, etc., don't list their dimensions but only say "works for laptops up to 17 inches." With the M17x, it seems that most "up to 17 inches" items don't work since this is a larger profile rig.

I was especially disappointed that I didn't see an Ogio product that fit the bill. I've used an Ogio Epic for years with my Studio XPS16, and it's held up very well with everyday use. I love all of the compartments in that backpack.

The Slappa MASK has no waistbelt so be very careful- you may hurt your back carrying the M17x and your SLR gear. I went with a ThinkTank Shapeshifter instead.

    Hi.

I currently own an m17x r3 and I am looking for a quality and durable backpack.

The things that I would need to put on the backpack are:
    -M17x r3 w/ case sleeve
    -power brick
    -razer hard Matt
    -Logitech g9x
    -fiio e17
    -anker astro3
    -galaxy note 2
    -phone charger
    -wiha screw driver set
    -2 binders
    -2 large books
    -sun glasses
    -water bottle
    -car keys
    -wallet
    -ti 83 plus
    -at least space for 2clothes

I looked at the alienware Orion but a lot of people say it is very fragile(I'm very rough on my stuff).

My max budget is $130 shipped and I want something that is very rugged and comfortable

we discuss it all the time. To poster above nearly nothing fits that much stuff than the Titan i think. I know i couldn't fit that in my beacon and the beacon is average size for 18 in backpacks.

You won't be disappointed! I've gone through a lot of packs and the Slappa is great value for the money (amazing protection, and tons of room ...a hard combination to find). The Titan looks like a great pack as well, and I was considering it as well, but I couldn't beat the price of the Slappa so I went with that. Hope you enjoy it :D

The new ones have a waist strap (pic in post #831: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...ases-sleeves-discuss-here-84.html#post8854251)

I was able to narrow down my choices to the Everki Beacon, The SLAPPA MASK, and maybe a timbuk2 large custom laptop messenger bag.

I'll just be carrying the laptop, my cell phone, power cord, water bottle, wallet, and Tritton headphones. What do you guys recommend I should get?

    Thanks in advance.

That's strange ...maybe they have older stock? I think the picture was from one ordered straight from slappa, but I could be mistaken. I guess time will tell as others order from slappa.

I can confirm 4 bags that will fit the M17x R4

1st is the Oakley SI computer bag. Fits both without and with the laptop sleeve it's just a little snug with the sleeve.
    https://secure.usstandardissue.com/Product_Detail.cfm?id=160

2nd is The SwissGear Pegasus Laptop backpack
This thing will hold your laptop and a few textbooks or even another 15.6 laptop +plus books.

3rd is Crumpler Karachi Outpost Large.
This bag will fit your laptop Multiple DLSR bodies and all your lenses and flashes. weight is the only issues that might slow you down.

    crumpler

4th is the Oakley Surf back pack. will hold your laptop in the sleeve if you remove a few stitches near the top. (it narrows down near the top for some reason.) this will hold text books clothes and anything you can fit through the top of the bag.

On the same note as the Crumpler Karachi Outpost, albeit a better travel backpack in my opinion is this:

    Shape-Shifter-7.jpg

The ThinkTank Shapeshifter is one I personally have and can verify fits the M17xR4 nicely. Probably not the M18x though but I could be wrong.

I am looking for the impossible: I need a case (not a backpack) that is large enough to hold the M17x plus charger and accessories, work stuff (notebooks, etc.) a bag for my travel misc (extension cord, medicines, etc.) and wheels so I can take it through airports without stretching my arm out two feet.

AND I need it to be relatively light and easily fit under the airplane seat, including on smaller planes.

(I guess if I wish for all of that I may as wish that it has a built in satellite receiver, LOL!)

Well my current leather bag is a notebook bag. Big pockets, built in roller, heavy as heck even empty. Don't need to pack clothes in it. Only problem with my current bag (7!years old) is it is torn and the M17x barely won't fit.

Does anyone know of the existance of a hardcase/backpack combo which would fit an M17? I am thinking of something similar to Peli 100 backpack with laptop hardcase ( U100 Laptop)

I travel a lot and I really don't like the crush possibility of a packed soft backpack when transporting on planes/taxis/wherever...

    Nah.... it won't fit...... The inner dimension was 15.50" x 10.50" x 1.50" (39.4 x 26.7 x 3.8 cm) while the R3 was 1.76 x 11.96 x 16.14 inches.

    too bad.... :(

Ok this thread does not make any sense....
It has all sorts of backpack and messenger bags for all type's of M17x revisions.

I think we need to start 4 new individual threads for the M17x R1/R2/R3 and R4 revisions.
For instance, the R3 is thinner then the R2 (which i believe is the biggest), so whats fits the R3 does not always fot for the R2.

All i want to know from this thread is:
    What backpack fits my R2?!!?!

I (and i think every new reader of this thread) have no desire to read this entire thread that is dedicated to all bag type for all revisions.
Is someone here interested in starting a new thread for JUST THE R2!?

    For the Benelux readers:

    Hi guys.

I've been trying to read this thread and I've getting a little bit confused and things seem to be going round in circles.

I've got myself a M17Xr4 laptop and soon I'll be off to university. My current bag just barely fits the laptop inside and I'm in need of another one that will fit it plus other stuff.

    What I'm hoping for:

    • Messenger bag
    • To fit for m17xr4 laptop + books, notepads, work stuff ect.
    • If possible, to fit laptop + coolmaster U3 kit (though I'm not expecting this of a messenger bag, but if it's possible, then all the better!)
    • For the bag to be, preferably, made by swissgear. I like their style and I trust the stuff they make (my last swissgear bag lasted a few years and gone a lot of heavy lifting)

I was looking at this but am not 100% sure:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Swissgear-G...words=17.3+Inch+Laptop/Notebook+Messenger+Bag

Anyway here already have this bag and tested it with the m17xr3/4??

If you have any alternative suggestions, with your recommendations I'd be happy to have a look :)

    Thanks,
    RT

Being a fellow brit, I would avoid any messenger style bags, they are super uncomfortable, very few people in uni have messenger bags for laptops, usually be a backpack if you have some sort of sense since you will have to walk quite far with it. 5Kgs on your shoulder isnt comfortable. I had the belking messenger style bag, but its not comfy for any journey over 3 minutes.

That will not fit your R4 I tried it out locally and length is fine the width/girth of the laptop was the problem I had. The Oakley Si bag would fit your laptop and a few notepads and books but doubt full on the u3 cooler. Also check the Crumpler messenger bags out.

maybe people are not as weak as you are ^^ jk

Too each their own. I would like a messenger bag if i had an ultrabook...easier to open get to one place and another but yea R4 or something similar would be a pain...literally.

Err I use a messenger bag every alternate day or so. Granted it is a pain if you have to walk a lot, but it is better for accessibility and meetings.

I don't have a problem walking with a heavy messanger bag. I just want something for the accessibility. That Oakley Si bag seems interesting but I'm not sure if I have that money to spend :p (do they even sell in the UK? Looks like an American only thing?)

That said, I wouldn't have a problem with a back pack. My current one is just slightly too small for the laptop and I need something bigger. Like I said, big fan of swissgear, and it would be nice to have one that fits my laptop (M17xr4).

I've heard the Wenger Pegasus could fit the M17Xr4 laptop but then I hear some people saying it cannot?? Can anyone confirm whether it actually does?

I carry my R4 in a messenger bag all the time with no problems that just personal preference. I hate carrying around back packs any more.

The Wenger Pegasus will hold your R4 with room to spare.
They just pulled the Si bag off US standard issue so I think it's finally discontinued It was only 110.00 there.

guys any comment about the orion m17x backpack?? I LOVE the design, and eventhough the price is a bit high(ok, a lot high), Imma give a go if its durable. it was found on some threads that the zippers and seams dont last, not even for a year. if you guys have used it, please give suggestions.

    Hello,

I have had the Orion backpack, 3 Brenthaven backpacks, and a Brenthaven messenger bag.

While the Orion is big, has lots of pockets, space, etc., the durability of the bag is questionable. What I mean to say is that most of the backpack is pretty sturdy, construction-wise, but the straps are what concern me. They're really thin, and the stitching is really iffy. For example, if you have your 17x in it, when you pick it up by the strap (like a normal person would), it seems like the strap is gonna rip right off. In terms of protection, it's also lacking any padding, notably at the base of the backpack where you need it most just in case of falls, drops. etc. What I like most about this bag is that you can fit a ton of things in it, without fear of the zippers breaking open. I've put my 17xR3, plugs, adapters, mouse, a PS3, 3 controllers, external hdd, plugs, cables, and graphic calculator, and some pens and pencils in it, and it fit fine. It was about 20lbs, and made me look like a turtle, but nonetheless, the fit was good. I don't think I'd ever do that again though, because like I said before, the straps are kinda iffy.

The 3 Brenthavens I've owned are the Metrolite in Titanium, and Metrolite in Black and the Metrolite BP-XF. I'm gonna sound like a freakin fanboi, but watevz. I retired the Titatium because it was too small, and the m17x only fit inside it if I shoved it in. I also had the Metrolite in black, but it was too small so I donated it. So my main bag is the BP-XF, which is phenomenal! (I've never used that word before, but thought today might be appropriate). It's durable, roomy, looks good, and has proper padding. Brenthaven has this thing called HDF (high density foam) set around all edges of the laptop compartment. Most importantly, the base has about 1inch of padding to protect the laptop from falls/drops. Also, Brenthaven has a lifetime warranty, so they'll send you a new backpack for free if you take a picture of your damaged backpack and send them a kind email letter describing your need. Basically, my original backpack was the Titanium colored one, which the strap ripped after a year of use. I did the email thing and they sent me a Metrolite in black (it was a newer revision), which didn't fit my m17x. I emailed them back, and they told me that they'd send me the BP-XF which should be the equivalent of the Titanium (in size and fit), and requested that I donate the black one. The BP-XF is basically everything I wanted, and has the same excellent ballistic nylon they used on my first Brenthaven messenger bag (I think it was called a Metrolite II messenger bag). Long story short, get the BP-XF if your funding allows for it :)

Some other good alternatives are the Everki Beacon, which I fiddled with at Fry's, the Astro Scout, or the Level 8 Atlas (if you can find one). All those bags, from pictures I've seen on the net look to be adequate for the 17x. The Everki Beacon really nice because not only was it durable, but the extra laptop sleeve inside gives it some extra padding too.

    K, back to studying.

    Hope this helps, bro!
