I too have the Orion since day one of owning my M17X and whilst I can sort of see where Dookie is coming from, I can testify that I've carted mine around all over the UK and I've never had the straps fray or break on me, so they're durable enough in my opinion. As for padding, the laptop itself is within a pocket which the bottom of is slightly higher then the base of the bag. Again I've never felt like I can feel the laptop through the bottom of the bag and concern for it getting damaged has never troubled me. It's kept my laptop in mint condition, I can't argue about that.

If you want the Orion and are concerned for safety, just do what I did and grab some foam/rubber padding and stuff a strip, about 1.5-2" thick along the base of the backpack underneath the pouch.

Is there anywhere in the U.K I could but something similar to the cloth sleeve that normally ships with the Alienwares? I got mine from the outlet so it didn't come with one sadly.

I contacted Dell but they said they couldn't sell me one. I found a guy in the states selling them, but he wants an extortionate amount for shipping - making it far too expensive. I just want a nice soft sleeve for slipping it into when it is sat doing nothing :)

thanks a lot man!! people like you are the reason why sites like this exist. thanks a bunch. :)

I think I should go for the orion then. I found a decent deal at 65$ for it, and I dont think I can afford the other nice bags you suggested.

    good job anyway.

Thanks dude. That's extremely helpful! +1 rep!

I'm assuming a bag that fits the R3 will also fit the R4 without an issue. The case is meant to be pretty much the same.

Thanks again :) I'm probably going to get this BP-XF. Sounds like a bag XD

I'm putting my reputation on the line guys. I've offered to help Retro in purchasing an Alienware sleeve. I don't want to go into details on how I'm getting it for him, but for his assurance, I wanted to make a post so that he knows that I wont screw him over.

I have really taken a liking to that Neoprene sleeve Alienware released. I would assume that I wouldn't haven't any problems with my R4 fitting . The only possible conflict I saw was the depth of the machine, but I doubt that an extra 17 hundredth of an inch would cause a problem.

Just fyi if anyone is wondering about the integrity of the Orion briefcase, I've had my m17xr4 do a flip out the back of a stationary car in the Orion (a good 1.5 metre drop) and there was not a single scratch or mark on it. So yeah I'll swear by those bags.

Otherwise, has anyone had experience in the Vindicator 17 briefcase? I really am thinking about getting one, as much as I love my Orion, if I only want to take my laptop, a smaller form factor bag would be nice.

That reminds me if we're talk about Orion..... Does anyone concern about the new Alienware backpack ? They Call it Vindicator..... Released along with the new look Alienware laptop....

Sure it does have a different look than Orion Series, but judge from the picture above, The compartement design is doesn't much different than Orion...... Just guess....

It sure does look like a coffin.....

i think it is cool. i wonder how many pockets it has. my beacon has 4 pockets and i wish they used all the space inside and put 10 or so pockets. would have made it so much better

I can safely say that no one could have done more to help me than SkylineLvr did in purchasing the sleeve for my machine. I won't go into all the details as it's a long story. But suffice to say the wrong one was supplied by someone at first, but SkylineLvr followed it up and got it all sorted for me.

Couldn't have asked for more or been happier with his help and the outcome. Really is nice to come onto the internet these days and find people actually willing to help someone out. Makes a nice change :) Top man.

Well, I received the sleeve today and it won't zip up all the way. The machine is level with the zipper. The R4's length is just alittle to much. They must of really have flaten down the face of the new ones. Now I have to figure out what to do with it. Other than the fact it doesn't zip up all the way, its still pretty nice. The front pouch has plenty of room for stuff. Also, it is a snug fit.

BTW, the orion bags have the lifetime warranty, correct? One of the pockets ripped I'm wondering if would be worth the trouble if calling, or just trying to mend it myself.

Hi guys, I am on a hurry, I am leaving for holidays end of next week, and I live in Athens, Greece, so I have to order most possibly from UK amazon.

So I have to place the order today in order to be able to receive it by end of next week.

So the question is: it seems that I can get the Think Tank Shape Shifter Backpack from UK amazon timely, and I own an alienware M17 R4. Is the bag roomy enough for this huge laptop and possibly a smartphone, cigarettes and my wallet?

A quick and reliable reply will be highly appreciated, thanks

OK got yesterday Think Tank Shape Shifter Backpack, at 200 GBP.

Very expensive for laptop bag, but I knew that before ordering it. Apart from that it has so many pockets that I don't need as I don't even use DSLR. These are the cons.

The pros: excellent quality, the M17 R4 fits nicely, and even with the M17 R4 loaded it has room HDDs, mobile, cigarettes even beach towel. Looks like a back pack that I am gonna keep for long.

Has anybody tried the Oakley Designer Kitchen Sink rucksack?

    bag.jpg

Looks to be a very well-made hard-wearing bag. Looks pretty cool too. It claims that "most 17" laptops" will fit in it, but I'm a bit doubtful that a m17x r3 would.

If it's the same size or shorter than a PS3 or the m17x R3, then yes? I've been able to fit both a ps3 and the R3 into the laptop compartment, and all the chords, controllers, a few games, an external hdd, etc. into the backpack. Only thing you might have to worry about is if the cooler will get smushed or not, haha.

Everki Beacon is probably the biggest bag I've ever seen in person. Next to that would probably be the Orion 17" in terms of capacity (I've fit a ps3 and my R3, controllers, plugs, etc. in before). If you're really into looking like you're going for a hike, then the Beacon looks good. Otherwise, slimmer profile backpacks like the Astro Scout are perfect.

i have the beacon and it is too small. Hence why i am excited to buy the titan if there isn't a bigger/ better pack. I would be fine with the beacon if they would have added another 6 pockets. I love those 4 little pockets but they could have fit an easy 10 of them on the inside :/ I plan on modifing both of them with more pockets if i don't sell the beacon

Thanks for this thread. I think I'm going to get the Astro Scout as their website says it's on special for 79.99, but when I checkout the price goes back to regular price of 99.99. Sent a support ticket and took a screen shot of the special price. Hopefully they get back to me tomorrow. Thanks again, guys.

Thanks. I would get the titan but I dont need all that space. I was torn between the scout and the brenthaven bp-xf. Had a brenthaven for my sager and I loved it, so comfortable and very well padded. So I decided to purchase the brenthaven and can't wait to get it so I can ditch this messenger bag I've been using. Hopefully no more sore shoulder.

Yup, love Brenthaven bags. I didn't know if any of the Brenthaven backpacks would fit my M17, but your earlier reviews of the bp-xf convinced me to get another Brenthaven. And I thank you for that.

Will do as soon as I get it.

So I have been thinking of picking up a sewing machine and making my own messenger bag designed perfectly to fit the m17xr4, psu, tactx headphones and tactx mouse.
If it turns out nice, is there any interest in a custom made bag for the m17x?

depends on the cost and quality. I would be willing to trade my two everki if it was good enough or pay up to $200 for it.

Whenever i get time i'll post what i will do to both my bags.

I'll upload pictures later as i am only partially done taking them. I will say i am really disappointed in the titan for 1 major reason. The titan does not have any of the pockets the beacon came with. The beacon had these 4 pockets that were amazing and the titan doesn't even have one! I thought the becon could be 2x better if it had more pockets. It has space for about 8 pockets instead of 4. I am definitely taking the titan and beacon to a seamstress so that she/he can add those pockets to the titan and add more to the beacon. I carry a ton of little items and with the titan i have barely enough area to find places to store them without them just pilled on top of each other in the bottom. It has a bunch of storage but weird storage. I'll show you in the pictures. I personally have no idea on how to use half of the storage -_- Its all for like paper stuff :/ I'll show you photos in a couple weeks of what i am talking about. Also show all the stuff i fit in it. It is a 3/5 for me right now since they didn't include those awesome pockets. If they had those pockets it would be an instant 4/5. Add a couple of different design changes and it'll be a perfect 5/5. I'll explain some of the silly design issues later. Mostly lack of padding, poor openings since they decided to not design the zippers differently, and a few small things. The pockets are a real bummer. I see no reason for not shoving an easy 4-8 pockets in it :/ Also some of the other design issues are just an easy change if they just redesigned it. One of them is the side pockets....they are hard to open and get into. If they just made the zipper on the outer area it could have had a huge opening :/

I am definitely glad i bought it but i have to add some padding and change a few things to make it almost perfect. (the zipper issues i obviously can't change). I think i'll write to the company recommending my changes on how to make it way better. I am pretty sure dookie you will see exactly what i am talking about and how it will be better when i post it.

    Update:
hashing details out with seamstress. Unsure yet if it is doable. I hope it is.

Thinking about cutting the folder holder things out of the top part. With those removed I can fit the psu in there, along with some other items that are the same thickness as the psu.

Got a Hex Origin Bag last week in a rush since my original bag for my laptop is suddenly MIA :(. I just ran to the nearest backpack store and got whatever bag fit the R4 best. In all fairness, the Hex isn't too shabby! A lot of people will probably find the space too small for the average gamer but it's fine for my purposes since I just bring my laptop, powerbrick, mouse, and other essentials like wallet, cellphone, etc. It won't fit in the dedicated laptop sleeve but no worries since I use my own sleeve anyways and the padding goes all around and I mean ALL AROUND meaning the back, front, sides, top, and bottom of the bag. Best rush buy I ever did :). I'm still waiting for my Astro Scout to arrive but I'm pretty happy with the Hex for now. :)

Hey, I wanted to make a quick photo review of the bag I received my Alienware M17x :)

It's an old Dell product that was part of a huge World of Warcraft pack with a laptop model XPS M1730 (if I understood correctly). My M17x is a perfect fit and I was really impressed with the quality of this bag!
It has got a lot of pockets and I really feel safe carrying my laptop in it.
    Please, have a look:

Anyone else have a problem with the new Vindicator backpack with the 17 version? I have a Alienware 17 that I had to lug around in its original case for a few weeks and finally received the vindicator bag. I was all excited and then it doesn't even fit in the dang sleeve. It looks like it was sewn too close together leaving the sleeve more outward than inward. Trying an exchange and hopefully the next one will fare a little better.

I got the Vindicator sleeve for my R4. I needed a bit of maneuvering and careful zipper closure but I can close it all the way so I suppose I got lucky with this one since someone a couple of pages back couldn't fit his into the sleeve.

What backpacks are you guys using for the new Alienware 17 laptop?

It is slightly larger than the previous M17x R4, and I'm wanting something around $100. I've been looking at the Targus Drifter II for 17" Laptops, but the AW 17 isn't the 'average' 17" laptop on the market - it's quite large in comparison.

Other choices: Everki Beacon. Anyone have this bag? I will need to carry the PSU with me.

I'm assuming that means the beacon works fine with the new Alienware 17?

I appreciate the offer, but I'm not looking for something used. I'm a stickler for new stuff... Good luck with the sale, though. I'm sure someone on here will be interested.
