Understood Ruby. It is frustrating. I was looking over John-B's post on the Dell side and his blog post article is dated - 11/18/2009. This really needs to be resolved as many are losing faith every day who are stuck with audio issues. Each day that goes by without an update is just more fuel on the fire.

Last night was the first time I ever listened to mp3's and did NOT hear any stuttering. Even hitting eject caused a "lighter" stutter. I have yet to try out any games, but I intend to test this thing thoroughly this weekend
-
I don't wanna be pessimistic or anything but i think we are doomed, Dell won't resolve this and we will be stuck with our m17x (at least we who doesn't get them to work as advertised)
Last thing i've heard in my case was that it may take up to two weeks before the decision of my "escalation" will change anything. A Dell person i talked to said that escalation is only Dell going through this case with more techs and confiring whith their juridical staff on how the customer laws may point to a replacement or refund. Seems to me that Dell is just gearing up to fight this to the end and i won't be able to get this fixed. I think it is very low that i shall wait two weeks before knowing what they'll do or not.
Happy weekend folks! -
Sorry to say, but if the escalation rep was the one who mentioned the legal comment then the rep needs a serious talking to. I'd take the legal comment with a grain of salt for now.
-
What amazes me is the fact that the R1 is still been to sold to the customer when there is a known issue that is so wrong. Why have they not sent a internal memo worldwide to all staff telling them the status of this issue as each individual tech support tells a different story which effectively causes mass confusion & anger with us the owners. This problem is not being handled professionally.
-
Bayboy is right, for every smart rep there are ten idiot reps in CS. That statement applies to a lot of industries, not just Dell.
-
Does anyone know if the R2 got any audio/fps stuttering problem?
if i have to start a fight to get a replacement id prefer to not get something not working again -
R2 also has issues. As do other Dell models.
Its a systemic lack of attention to detail. -
Yeah i agree, this is messed up in so many level.
The apple has fallen far far away from the tree. Dell used to be the best company in terms of customer care. But they are now one of the worst i have dealt with at the moment. -
yea but unfortunately they seem to be the company which comes out with laptops with specs that arent all crappy
with all these problems with tech support and design flaws, im still considering on getting an m11x lol.. i must be mad -

Problem is Nvidia aren't making it any better. They havent even responded properly to the DPC Latency thread they started on thier own forums. We were promised there should be an update/some info 3/4 days ago after a driver team meeting, and still nothing.
Its almost as though Nvidia have found something they dont like so dont want to admit it, either that or they're trying to pass the buck until they can come up with something. -
Yeah ManuelG
From http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=157614&st=0
Has not surfaced on the thread for a good few days . -

Aye, Im just a little dissapointed by the lack of courtesy in even a basic response. Still the thread has hit about 40-50 submitted laptop cases different models and brands, so its not like they haven't had any proof the issue exists.
-
The thing is they have known of the problem for years and denied it.

Hello Everyone, been following the threads for a long time after I too suffered the stuttering. Finally had the my 280gtx swapped out today by I should say a very knowledgable tech who put in my 4870's and i'm happy to report that the problem is finally gone been playing video games and listening to music over youtube and pandora without a single stuttering or slight freeze in game. ATI is definetly the way to go.
-
Everything the tech installed was from the dell site should be using any other drivers to further improve my performance?
-
Don't worry about it If your games run smooth.
If you feel the need for better video drivers - 9.12 Catalyst (Desktop) + mobility MODDER. Don't have a link, but you can find it in the drivers thread. -
The tech who came to my house took just under 20 minutes and did a great job. ATI's are working like a charm, no issues! so far....
-
Maybe I got your call about a delay
. I got a call saying my part was delayed but the tech showed up on time with the part. He told me that I wasn't the only person this week who got what seemed like the wrong call.
-
I use to have this. The frequency was random. Sometimes multiple times in one day(afternoon) and then days without it. Couldnt do anything. I could move the mouse and that was about it...
I have not have one in over a week. The only thing that is different is that I have the Intel SSD and I removed the Nvidia Chipset drivers and just installed the co processor manually along with network driver.
Since that package removal, I havent had any hard lockups.. *cross fingers*
If you get one, dont reboot or power off.. Are the HDD lights stuck on/off? There were times it would come back in a few min and a couple of times it took 5-8 min and the system played catch up... It seemed like the HDD controller driver was bad in the 15.49 package.. -
I finally got around to calling Dell and no video card change for me. They said they were replacing the cards at the beginning but not anymore. He said an update will be coming and I had to wait. I'm going to give them another week than phone and really complain.
The problem really hit home last night, had people over and I tried using the laptop to play music but couldn't just non stop stuttering. Sort of embarrassing
-
Wow that sucks how long have you had the problems? My cards are getting replaced today so hopefully it will fix the problems.
-
Same thing happened to me. Got the call about a delay and then 2 hours later got called to set up the appointment.
-
why wait a week? Call back again and try again. Ask to have it escalated. What worked for me was asking them if they had an exact date that the fix would be released. When I was told no, I asked if there was something else we could try to do that we could actually control, such as trying ATi cards. That was the magic question for me - the tech got on with her supervisor and a week later, the parts were dispatched.
-
Moving forward, any posts concerning issues/driver install/general questions on switching to the 4870 GPUs from NV GPUs can be made here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=457261
If you post here, they will be removed as they are OT. Any questions on this, PM me.
Thanks. -
Well the so called call I was supposed to receive today never came.
-
Did they tell you a level 2 tech support person would call in 24 to 48 hours?
They said the same thing to me and I just called right back and kept on complaining about the audio stutter. I talked to 5 different tech support people. I was hung up on (transfered into a black hole) 3 times. Was given the run around.... ect. The whole thing took me about 6 hours of telephone time, but I got my cards replaced! -

Hey guys, 103,384 DPC latency, do I win a prize?
-.-' -
Nope - someone had close to a billion I believe. Still, its high. A03 as well?
-
A billion, lmfao, lucky guy. Aye, its A03, recently installed win7, never went so high on vista I believe.
-
Hehe, my personal best is 10 millions but that's just 1/10 of the record
-
Why I am still on Vista and A02
Geez, even 10mil is too high Aikimox. Strike that, 5k.
Looks like I missed John-B's post on the blog yesterday.
-
Wish I could stay as calm as you are. Went through 17 reinstalls (4 operating systems) and still having some issues.
-
Believe me, when I first noticed the in-game FPS Drop Off and then had major issues with audio popping back in August and September, I was frustrated and ready to chuck the M17x out the window. Fortunately, as all of you know by now - I was able to resolve these issues on my system. As I mentioned in the stuttering thread, what works for one does not always work for another. We each have different requirements for our systems.
So, I guess what I am trying to convey here is - yes, I know how ticked off you are all feeling.
-
I've personally only noticed stuttering and audio popping a few times with my rig, so I count myself lucky like you. Of course, mine is having other issues right now that are unrelated, so I'm equally pissed off at Dell at the moment.
Just reading about the hell you guys are having to go through to get this fixed is really depressing to me - especially since i used to think pretty highly of Dell and Alienware. -
You know, not that I feel too worried about it. Have enough reasons to get a replacement, but will wait till the R2/R3 proves to be free from (major) issues as I don't wanna enter the endless loop of frustration. It takes Too much time.
But if the cycle continues - will sell it/get a refund and try a different system. -
Don't get me wrong guys, I still think highly of Dell and Alienware. Together with Clevo they offer the TOP in all aspects.
Unfortunately the whole global system is (deliberately?) flawed.
That's normal.
I bet the number of Dellienware customers would be slashed by more than a half if it wasn't for the famous CS of the company.
I for one would never approach the 3k+ worth system without a powerful warranty and fast CS. -
Can you find out what is Dell's position on the problems related by Mandrake on the R2 version.
I cancelled my order because of it. -
I wish I could Joe. Contrary to popular belief, I do not work for Dell. I recall some other forum saying that I did.
You might want to PM Nagshead or John-B and see if they have any 'official' comment. -
You can easily guess the position. I'd define it as currently oblivious . When the critical mass (of unhappy customers) is reached, Dell will open one lid to focus on it. But if really want the system now, go with the 820, especially if you are not into benching.
-
Aikimox,
Are you experiencing any issues with your system totally freezing up and having to do a hard shut down to recover? This has been happening to me since I did the ATI swap. Just curious if this is an isolated incident or not, I think I remember someone else also having this problem not sure though.
thanks -
Scook is in the same boat.
I only had 1 lockup when starting the Everest temp sensor. That is enough to start thinking IMHO. -
Well shoot I was hoping it was isolated. It has happened 3 times since Tuesday, even after a fresh install. It could be the 9.12 drivers though.
-
hmm didnt some ppl with nvidias have the same problem though ?
-
They did/do, and it points directly to the mobo/chipset as the next/only faulty part.
-
cpaqf1,
Well I just made the switch from nvidia to ATI and my system would stutter and squawk but would never have a hard freeze. Not until i switched over to the red camp anyway
-
I guess we want something still nonexistent in this world - a powerful laptop with 2 GPUs working flawlessly.
-
why is nagshead replying in the r2 lounge regarding the flickers and no dell rep is replying here?(unless im mistaken)
you might think they are just reading the threads and laughing at us for spending so much on a paperweight -
this is definitely not off the radar and we are working with nVidia for a solution.
-
Thanks for the post nags. Look forward to more info as it becomes available.
