You can disable them in the bios, but not on the nvidia control panel (the option is greyed out). I spoke today with alienware and they are aware About it. Also, prince of persia (the newest one) does not work with the beta drivers

Hey guys, I've found newer chipset drivers, they work great so far for me in win7x64 (vista ones are available too), you don't have to force the "coprocessor" install anymore, it installs automatically. Versions are:

    Ethernet Driver (v73.06) WHQL
    Network Management Tools (v73.05) "Sedona"
    SATAIDE Driver (v11.1.0.23) WHQL
    SATARAID Driver (v11.1.0.23) WHQL
    RAIDTOOL Application (v11.1.0.23)
    SMU Driver (v1.67) WHQL
    Installer (v7.01)

    Compared to the dell ones:

    Ethernet Driver (v67.86.2) WHQL
    SataIDE Driver (v10.3.0.42) WHQL
    RAID Driver (v10.3.0.42) WHQL
    RAIDTOOL (v10.3.0.42)
    SMBus (v4.69) WHQL
    SMU (v1.66) WHQL
    Installer (v6.69)

I also have a question about the new audio drivers, it's revision A00 and the ones I have on the Ressource CD are A01.

The ones from the website are really small (2.5MB if I remember well) while the ones on the CD are 25MB. The downloaded ones doesn't seem to work (I still have sound but through the windows integrated drivers.
Does any of you know what these new drivers are for?

i'm using the 186.12 beta nv drivers from dell (which is linked above). and even those are giving me the nvk...error (nv driver error issue). i'm starting to get ticked off with the instability of this system. add to that...the space bar has started squeaking. and it looks like i'll have to have my dvd drive replaced.

The drivers from the website are probably just that, the drivers, and nothing more, as where the ones on the resource DVD are the entire package like the sound control panel etc.

Sorry to be a dilhole, but does installing the official Dell drivers require you to turn off the 9400 as well prior to installation?

It supports the 9400 so I'm guessing not? If I decide to install the Dox drivers instead, I'll have turn off the 9400 via bios and do something else...Forgot what...

I'll most likely install the official Dell ones. Are the beta ones 'better' than the June ones?

    Thanks folks. :)

to install dox you have to disable the 9400

to install dell drivers you have to leave it on

i keep having issues where Service pack 2 breaks my command center . I have followed GabeZ instructions to the T over and over but it seems no matter what i do it wont fix it . I spent all last night trying to fix it so i restored an old image pre SP2 then before i went to bed i installed SP2 again and sure enough when i powered on my machine to day same error . The alien in the corners eyes are red and it says the FX controller is no longer working and it could be software or hardware but i know its not hardware because if i restore i have full control again.

I have tried removing the .net hot fixes etc to see if that would help as well because those hot fixes are part of SP2 automatically to no avail as well.

Also which are you installing first?

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=399785

He explains how to repair it in there and how one of the .net updates breaks the command center. He posted this i think in 2 different threads for various reasons because i currently have lights on mine but i cant change them.

As for which i had installed first . The OS i dumped last night was one i did from scratch IE the disk but the issue popped up and then i restored a factory one then updated to SP2 . On both occasions though i already had Command Center installed pre SP2.

I had my lights go out after a new install pre-sp2.

I would definitely do it in this order:
    1.install OS
    2.install windows updates except sp2
    3.install software/drivers from resource DVD
    4.install SP2

It look like that's what you did. Can you start command center at all or just get an error message?

Command center starts right when windows boots but the alieneyes are red in the corner indicating a problem . Id rather not go through reinstalling everything again only to find out once it comes time to install command center its going to break on me again.

I did try everything though including cleaning the registry out after the uninstall etc. im just going to live without SP2 then till Win7 arrives . I spent the bulk of my evening last night trying to figure it out and ive just decided its not worth the grief and i dont need SP2 it just would have been nice.

Oh and the order you recommended is the order i took because SP2 came way later. Just like it would come after i restore my factory image since everything is there and SP2 comes last and then breaks it.

I saw Gabe's instructions and they look straight forward. Dell will more than likely have a fix for this soon. Anyway Win 7 RTM comes out for us TechNet subscribers next week. I still don't know if it will be worth the change.
