Thanks dioxcyde, you inspired me to order a Seagate XT hybrid from NewEgg, I'll likely get it before I receive my R3. +rep to you too man for the inspiration!
-
np, and thanx!
from what I read that hybrid comes close the 10k rpm raptor in speeds, like REALLY close, and its less then half the price -
I hope you guys get them too. I am starting to see a trend here though. they are shipping out a lot and a lot of people are receiving them, and then there is a lull for a bit before anyone else receives them it seems.
I don't think you will have a problem with the weight and I don't think you will look like an idiot. LOL The computer will be proportional to you, as a netbook will be proportional to a 5'9" 150lbs punk in your class. lol.
samrock, look in my sig and read my initial review. (Which I have been adding to since I wrote the initial review) I had a 15.6 HP that I carried around in the 1495cc1 case from pelican for about 3 years. I never had much issue with it, and I really don't notice a big weight difference now. Although there is quite a bit of weight difference between the two laptops.
That sucks that they called you and told you that it shipped. I have faith that it will arrive before your EDD though. MOST people in here have gotten them before their EDD and a few on, and very few after EDD.
Yes you cancel the order as long as it hasn't shipped yet. I would have to agree with you that the 18 is fine if it's going to be a desktop replacement, but if he want's any portability at all should go with the 17.
Congrats man, you should have it in no time. Let us know when you get it, and what you think of it. Then after a few days, it will be your turn to do a review. lol Who's on the chopping block now??? LOLLast edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I will post my own thoughts on the unit when I get it.
First I plan on going over it with a fairly fine tooth comb to make sure that nothing is amiss with it.
I am not at all happy that Dell sent it FedEx Ground when it was supposed to be NBD. I worry about rough handling each time the box has to transfer trucks and facilities.
All in all I am impatiently excited to get it tomorrow. Now I just need to find a backpack I like to transport it and my work laptop in. I will probably be hitting the Mall of America this weekend, hauling it along, to find one. -

Check this out before you head out. You may get ideas or find one you like that will work without even leaving the house. -
Ughhhh 6 more days
-
Damn, looks like mine won't be here till Saturday
How many days did yours take for the replacement?
And, how do you like it so far? Anything wrong with it yet? -
I feel your pain -
Phone status "Boxing Stage"
They ran out of FREAKING boxes?? But no seriously, i dont know exactly how Dell is handling this cluster of a production line but it is so backwards that my neices and nephews could be more productive. Dont tell me my machine is being boxed if thats the status for 2+ days. Im real tired of being BSed. Worst part is, dell dosent give a crap about the customer, if anyone here cancelled their order their would just be another person behind us to order our machines. They have no reason to care about you the customer, they get the money either way. -
Boxing = shipping from China and boxing once it gets to USA
Boxing seems to be somewhere between 2-3 days. -
I won't get my 6970 r3 alienware until april 20th or sometime around then. The number of alienwares I have total is getting to be a bit absurd
Hopefully I'll like this system more then the previous 3d version I had.
-
Yeah i understand the concept, the entire process just has me really irritated. Not so much because of my situation, granted the fact that ive been waiting for a computer since feb 22 does have me a little hot under the collar especialy when some are recieving there second in less time (replacements). The reps from Dell continually lying to customers (yea, we will send a letter of expedite over to the factory right now!) I flat out asked the day i had to re-order "If i have this order expedited, will that put me in front of the production line ahead of those that arent expedited?" reply was "Yes sir, your computer will be at the front of the line" Obviously a flat out lie. So what option do i have, cancel and say HA! Ill spend my money somewhere else! Dell dosent care if i spend my money with ASUS, becouse soemone will just come behind me and buy the computer i just dropped. The customer service experiance with dell has just been rediculous which is sad because i have been purchasing dell products for 10 years and this is the first time i have had such a horrendus experiance. -
This is funny, but I don't think it's true, cuz mine was already boxed and shipped overnight, so I assume they box it at the factory. Makes no sense that they'd ship bulk stuff here and then make some American factory worker box it up, when they could pay someone in China a fraction of that to box it up and have it shipped at the same time...
Oh btw, how many of y'all have used the sticker or the hat that the R3 came with? Mine's still in the box lolzzzz -
check out my sig and click on the track with w/o dell. Basically when they say that it's in the boxing stage, that means that they sent the info to fedex to pick it up, but fedex hasn't gotten around to picking it up yet. I think mine was like 3 days from the time dell sent the info to when fedex picked it up. I'm not blaming either one of the companies but both because they are working together to give us a little info as possible, and just making everyone mad in the process.
-
LMAO, mine are still in the box as well. LOL
-
Yah i tried that
-
M17x R3
Ordered: 3/19
EDD: 4/12
Online it says my order is "In Production"
But, via phone it says my order is "Being Processed"
Do I need to be worried about getting my lappy on time? -
Keep trying man. It has to show up in their system eventually. Also, that method has worked for others, so as soon as fedex picks it up I'm sure it will show. I'm guessing it isn't showing up yet because fedex hasn't picked it up yet and scanned the barcode. So even though they have the info to pick it up it's not going to show in their systems until they do. Like I said, the two companies working together to screw the customer.
-
Call the 800 alienwa number and get a hold of a rep that way. Ask him the same question you asked us. They are normally not of much help, but whatever they do, to try and look your system up, somehow updates the online status and the phone status. It worked for me anyhow. I was in boxing stage FOREVER and I kept calling the auto line and one of the times it somehow connected to a rep so I talked to him for a bit. Didn't give me any info worth a damn, but afterwards the online status updated as well as the phone status.
-
Mine showed up in FedEx's system before they ever picked the package up.
Dell will (or should) send the package information to FedEx when it is ready to ship.
I do not really understand the amount of time that seems to transpire between Dell sending FedEx the shipping information and FedEx picking the package up. I have never experienced such an occurrence when ordering from other retailers online. -
Yah i know im going to eventualy get the laptop but its been in the "Boxing stage" since before my EDD, now that my EDD has come and gone, my NEW EDD is 4/11, over a week past my previous EDD. Thats where my problem lies.. CSR's from Dell say "boxing stage" is Prepairing for shipping... in what third world country does it take a week to prepair a computer to ship? I can take the wings off a f-18 and have it on a flat bed trailer in 2 days... dont tell me it takes 8 to box a laptop lol
Anyway, i got a little off topic. My original comment was about dell CSRs and there constant string of lies. -
Wonder just exactly how many they fully make in a weeks time...
-
I know what you mean. I have no idea why it is taking fedex so long to pick them up. It's just terrible that it takes them that long. Dell should use UPS!
LMAO man. I know what you mean. I helped transport a Battalion sized element of ANA equipment to the airport in Herat to be shipped North (so they could protect the citizens when they came out to vote (so their votes wouldn't be swayed by Taliban)) in less than a week!!!
And it was on Spanish and Italian Chinooks. So the whole process had to be worked out through ISAF. Anyone who has worked with ISAF knows what kind of strategic problems there are.
I feel for ya, and I def agree that there is no reason for the pre boxing/preparing to ship or whatever screwed up terms they are using. -
Not sure, though I believe we can all agree our answer is "Not enough"
-
So when I receive my system, if I'm not totally pleased with the performance of the 460m, will they allow me to replace it with a non-3d model with a 6970m?
-
Yeah, it's all a big crock.
I highly doubt they will make my EDD of 4/8 since it would have to ship from China today to have any chance of making it here on time. The Phone and website still say "In production" in the "Build stage".
I think the process works something like this:
1) Dell builds the machines in China.
2) FedEx handles shipping from China to your house.
3) Mass shipments are flow daily from China to single point in US.
4) Distribution to various hubs in FedEx system occurs after units arrive in US.
This is a very common "Drop shipment" method used for all sorts of mass produced products. In this case, they have tweaked it to handle customized builds for specific customers.
Just my thoughts, but I am almost certain that FedEx has the package from the time it leaves the factory until it arrives on your doorstep. -
USPS tracking is garbage. They don't give actual tracking information. I hope my laptop gets here soon 'cuz I'm losing my mind! I love my G53 but I know I can do some damage with my R3!!!
-
I have bad news for all those either just ordered or in pre production (or even in production in the US as the site seems to work different)
I've just been in contact with the executive office regarding why my order edd has been pushed back to 1st May (From 8th Apr) and they have looked into it thoroughly and unfortunately have told me now that there are severe parts shortages for parts of the internal chassis (Not the processors, hard drives or anything) but the base chassis. The estimated date of these arriving is the 25th April and theres nothing they can do unfortunately as they cannot be substituted. -
Maybe we'll get them by the time the M18x is released....
-
Yikes! I hope they dont start ripping it off returned units and slap them on new R3s. They maybe doing it already for some internal parts but I hope they dont do it for chassis FFS
-
Received another phone call from dell today reminding me that my order is still in production and was assured that I would get it by April 12... yea I'm not gonna hold my breath. I bet when I get home ill see a new pushed back delivery date online
-
All these BSOD's I am hearing about with the AMD GPU.. is honestly very discouraging... As well as their QC, which worried me a bit seeing as how they let so much slip by...
I am actually thinking about just ditching all the fanciness and flair, and go for a Sager... :/ ugh... -
Damn.... Might have to cancel my order and re-order next week. My Sales rep just called me and said that a bigger sale is going to occur on Monday for the m17x R3. So anyone who is looking to purchase I'd wait till this monday to see what it has listing. Again my source is my sale rep who left me a Voicemail just now over lunch, so I got a recording of it!
-
*Scratch That** Apparently after further talking to my Rep it's a Employee Only Discount that's a special for Mondays or first mondays of the month or something to that degree for my company so no one else is going to see this sale except for my Co-Workers.
My Mistake, sorry about that, Still going to re-order on Monday though.
Edit:** 30% off, wowzers, luckily they took in my order today, so there was little time lost.** Nice People over there in Nashville. Thanks Dell! Once I finilize everything I'm going to screenshot my order cause it's just that crazy of a deal IMO.
-
Mine has arrived.
Actually it arrived at 11 AM this morning or there about.
Typing on it right now.
So far so good.
I am sure that I will write more later
-
If Dell doesn't make it's EDD of 4/14 then there's a 75% chance I'm canceling the order and buying a Sager. I have no patience for incompetence.
-
I would man... Though now that I think about it.. I have a credit with them.. and I may possibly want to use it..
-
I finally received my lappy.. Along with my turtle beach px5's. Ordered 3/7 and received overseas in Guam 4/7. Time to check for any problems and here's hoping for the best!
-
Hmmm.. No flaws on the outside so I'm happy with that. I'm a little irritated that the only plastic on the laptop is on the alienware logos.. Even my Asus came with a keyboard and screen protector. Oh well, I'm just glad it's finally here!
-
I'll at least give them to their EDD day before I consider anything like that.
-
Congrats! Hope everything is perfect.
-
It's awesome! This thing is huge.. Anything bigger and it's no longer portable.. Might as well get a desktop than a m18x IMO. Took a Lil over a month to receive but I'm definitely happy.
-
No scratches.
No BSOD's.
Updated Windows with all current patches including SP1 and not seeing any issues there.
No issues switching between video modes. AMD working like a charm.
Love the look and feel.
Yeah it is a dust and fingerprint magnet.
The only issue per se is that same that many have reported and that is with the 1mm or less defect with the media bar. It is raised just enough to see the light peeping through.
Aside from that the machine is flawless and even the one little common defect is, while mildly annoying, not enough in and of itself to bother me with the overall unit. -
I've just recently purchased the m17x (last Friday) and after reading through many forums and sites about the shipping of this product I've become very discouraged.
It seems like Alienware has been plagued with terrible shipping and customer support, something I wasn't aware of before my purchase.
I was just hoping someone could give me some insight on the situation, if it truly is as bad as it seems. I don't want to have to wait months in order to actually use my very expensive piece of equipment.
When I ordered I used the 7-day shipping method, if it matters.
A friend of mine ordered an m11x and received his within two weeks time, contrary to a lot of things I've been reading over on the internet. Is the wait and shipping dramatized or was my friend a lucky guy?
tl;dr - Have a lot of people been finally receiving their laptops without delay, or are there still major issues in the shipping and packaging of these products? -
People are receiving, the turnarounds just not as quick
-
I don't know... I thought my guys (My Reps) Were great, they called me back to inform me of possible price adjustments and upcoming sales and even with those sales they helped me find the price point I wanted and even adjusted the shipping so I'd get Next Day Shipping Waived Off. Got no complaints really, even if I have to wait 20-25 days for the system to be built.
-
My order was place on 4/30 so its only been a week now but I did cancel a order all ready to get a new price from AAFES for a CPU upgrade and free NBD shipping for 200 less then the first order... Still tho I leave for Afghanistan in June so I want to get this laptop broken in long before I head out.
