M17x Order Status Discussion - Part 3

Ok, after calling up one day after placing my order and upgrading the graphics card and the screen res, my new EDD is 5/03. And so the wait begins...

 

Yeah I updated it a bit after I wrote that message. That way people could find it easier. lol

The wheels slowly move.

Seems like my supposed NBD shipping is a lie.

Maybe I will get lucky and it will arrive tonight in Minneapolis and I will get it tomorrow.

 

I didn't even have NBD and I got mine in like 12 or 13 hours from the time FedEx picked it up. It was no short distance for it to travel either. Picked up somewhere in NJ, and went to Albany, NY and then to Syracuse, NY, then delivered.

Wait GF's was like 12 or 13 hours. I would of had mine in the same time frame if the delivery driver hadn't run the route backwards. LOL

Either way I had mine in less than 24 hours from the time they picked it up. They picked it up really late at night and I had mine by COB the next day.

 

i guess that gives me a little hope than.

hahaha well i knew it was going to happen... New EDD 4/11 yet another week to wait after waiting over a month

 

Well they delivered like promised on the exact EDD to it's destination but I still haven't received my baby here in Guam. Sigh.. The wait is killing me even more now than before...

 

Just as an update for all those waiting, the screens 1920x1080p (60hz) are what is presently on backorder. If you have this screen on your order that is what is holding it up. Quite why they cant update this on their website is beyond me.

 

I ordered on the 3/8. EDD was pushed bk till 4/11. My original EDD was the 4/1.

Shipping date is tomorrow though. I live one street down from the Dell plant and it's shipping from down the road from me. Can I just go pick it up?!?! lol

 

Dang son, you still haven't gotten yours? Poor guy.

 

I've been told that I should expect it to arrive around 10 to 12 april which is good since the expected time/Deel order status said it was 19 april.

 

By that theory mine should've arrived yesterday or today. Neither has happened. Status still shows as in production with an EDD of 4/14.

 

Got mine today . Spent about an hour doing loads of dead pixel tests - All good.

Already repasted it (vid later tonight) and am currently making backup disks before I wipe / format / reinstall.

It has the same rattle as this one so I guess its normal, only difference is they screwed up the nameplate (m17x instead of GLaDOS) and one side wasn't on tight and had a bit of movement.. Fixed it though.

Heres to hoping it doesn't BSOD!

Yeah - Oddly enough it came with full retail box and has all the goodies inside.

FOR DOOKIE: You already read the part about it coming with the box/hat/mousepad, etc (I know you were asking). They give you up to 10 days to send it back and the label is inside already.

No indication regarding how much of a delay or when to expect delivery. Website still shows the same unchanged EDD, I also called this morning to check and it had not changed.

I do have NBD shipping but I would expect the machine to move into a shipping state by now, in order for them to get it to me by Friday, it will need to be in FedEx hands but Thursday EOD.

Oh yeah, and to the AW CSR who sent this: I was having a great day until I got your email!

 

What are your specs?
You should put them in your sig so that people know if the delay applies to them too, I have the exact order date and EDD as you.

 

Who had you been talking to to get your replacement. The csr reps I have been talking to won't return my phone calls.

It has been a long wait, I would hate for them to change things up at the last minute and delay it into next week sometime ...

 

By the way, the website and the phone order check both still list the unit as In Production, Build State with an EDD of 4/8, ship date of 4/7. We shall see.

I do recall seeing a post within the last day saying that the 1080p 60Hz screens are causing a hold up at present.

 

My First Order on 03/11/2011 with a EDD of 04/04/2011 & then pushed back to 4/11/2011 Turns out they screwed the order up and its too late to fix it and the only solution they gave me was to return this original machine when I receive it. they then placed an order for a New machine and Gave me a large discount. I have listed in my sig what my final specs will be after I upgrade it with the Ram and HDDs but my order included stock ram and HDD when i ordered from dell. now my EDD for the new system is 05/02/2011


They gave me like a $600 discount on my new system but im still pissed its taking soo long

 

Let's hope that the backorder of the displays doesn't adversely affect the shipment of my order. I'm sure it will though -- that's how my luck normally works. Some call it pessimism. I call it being realistic.

 

That's rough. It seems like they should have expedited the second machine for you rather than force you to wait another month ...

However, the $600 discount is pretty nice!

 

It actually appears like they could be getting ready to ship out a lot of units between the 10th and 15th. Might be when they expect all the parts to be in.

Most of the early april orders have been pushed back to then, and those of us in that time frame have been reassured that our unit is on schedule.

 

A US Sales rep and Manager took over my second order and said they were trying to have the build process expedited, the first order couldn't be canceled though so I have no choice but to receive it and return it, I may just use it for a few weeks and take it apart to make sure I know what I'm doing when I install my Ram and HDDs lol . They are supposed to call me tomorrow with an update to let me know if the Manufacturing center responded to the Expedite request.

p.s. could you responde to my question in my SSD thread? Im still curious if its worth ti to have a 240gb vertex 3 & 500gb momentus gybrid running in AHCI

 

How did you find out it was screwed up and do you know what was screwed up ?

 

So, after seeing that the M17x weights 11+ lbs, I'm starting to wonder whether this was a mistake or not- I'll be headed to med school in the fall, and while I am used to a 17'' laptop(I've had a Vostro 1700 for years), this is 4 lbs more than that. I will be sitting in lecture halls most of the day so desk space is not a problem, and I wouldn't bother with a netbook because I have very large fingers. I'm also 6'4, 250 so the weight really shouldn't bother me- I'm just wondering if perhaps I should have gone with a smaller 17'' laptop or even a 15.4''. Am i going to look like an idiot with this thing in class?

 

First, I ordered through the phone so I never had system specs in front of me. I ordered it through my business Credit card so they automatically bypass the email that lets you overlook the system specs. I Run a Mobile App/Game development company and have been very busy the past few weeks so when I finally went on to look at the order I noticed they screwed up the build, it had a 720qm which I could have lived with but they also got my warranty wrong, my wireless card, they upgraded my ram and HDD but I didn't need ethier b.c i have Hyperx and a SSD on pre-order and a hybrid drive on its way that I'm installing. Basically the whole order needed to be re-done and when I called them they kept telling me it was too late to make order changes, then after weeks of arguing they re-built the system witht he right specs on a separate order which took up until Friday, so yesterday when I called to cancel the old order they told me it was too late and I now had to receive it and then ship it back... this totaled to over a month fo bull now, I was ready to cancel my order and purchase a saeger but I simply like the "flashy" aspect of the alienware with the lighted keys etc and the discount I got offered was just too good to pass up.

 

well now that the m18x is confirmed, maybe it's worth to consider cancelling our order and re-ordering the m18x once it's available...

 

In all honesty I personally would prefer a Single card solution Laptop, plus I want it to fit in the Orion bag I have lol. but thats just me, mby I'm crazy

 

How do you like that Orion bag? I'm almost positive I will be getting it as well.

 

yeah, i admit that the weight and battery life of the R3 are tempting

 

just before i typed that Out I was testing how much I could fit in the bag and its GREAT!, I fit a Surge protector, my entire box for my wireless NAGA Epic w/ all its interchangeable plates, My Razer, Headset, the laptop will fit of course and I still got room for more crap lol, I just ran out of feasble things to fit in there, mby Ill try getting my GF in there next .

I agree, however i lose alot of battery with my 3d option, but Ill mostly be using it near outlets so I don't care very much, I just really wanted a 120hz screen and to be able to play with 3D

Oh yeah, I just ordered a Wiimote plus, Nunchuck & a USB HD sensor bar (In black of course to match the R3) so I can play Wii games via dolphin on my R3 when it comes, and Im sure that will also fit in the bag lol it is very roomy and just awsome lookin

 

I added the my config to cart and made the rep pull it from the site(Not sure if it'd work for folks not wanting to create an account but i guess you'd eventually need one for tracking.)

 

at this point I now have the account set up and that information is availavle to me, I keep it up 24/7 to make sure there are no screw ups lol

Like you, I think I'll pick up one of the Seagate XT hybrid 500Gb drives to use in AHCI mode as my secondary drive. I felt that having 240 vs. 120GB would give me more space to load a few games on the SSD. I also develop software and will want to have Visual Studio installed, although I don't know if it needs to be on the SSD, MSDN etc. can also be on the XT Hybrid.

 

thanks for the response here, ok, I think Ive made up my mind then, I upgraded My pre-order to the 240gb Vertex 3 and My Hybrid should arrive tomorrow.

hey guys am about to order an M17x r3 here in about a week.....ill be getting it with 2820qm, 6970, 4gb ram, and 1080p screen........what should i expect? im seeing about a 3 week turn around from some of you...........which is fine with me...i have 2 little girls both under 5yrs. to occupy my time till then.......i want an SSD but don't have that money now so ill upgrade that later on.....

whats everyone talking about that's giving the most holdups?

 

apparently dell was short on components which delayed system ship-outs, I would prepare for a 1month turn around but from what I'm seeing it seems very sporadic on how long it takes for them to deliver from as soon as 2 weeks to in my case almost 2 months lol


as for the SSD, its not necessary but it does significantly increase speed performance. So when/if you have the money I would def. reccomend getting a nice Sata 3 drive of atleast 120gb (I personally feel confident trusting Vertex 3's performance but thats a whole other thread to get into that) and running it in AHCI with your other HDD running as a Data drive.

 

Still no change on my order.. I wouldn't care so much about the move back

in the delivery date if Dell hadn't called on March 30 telling me it was

shipping out and then called me back yesterday (April 4) saying that it is

still in production. It would have had to ship out yesterday to be here by the

new EDD of April 12 with my 7 day shipping but seeing how a lot of other

orders have arrived well before that im still hoping it will be here this

week Do any of your order statuses differ from whats said online and

whats said by calling the automated number? Mine says in production online

and processing over the phone.

Asked today to have it expedited since it is my new work laptop, we will see in a day or two.. lol

 

My two replacement orders were canceled due to a lack of parts being available. Dell offered me $100 coupon and I will be returning my M17x R3. Time to reorder and wait.

 

Guys I ordered an m17x last week and it's still listed as in production. Now I just find out that the m18x is about to be released... If I can get the m18x with a single gpu, do you think its worthwhile to cancel my order and the m18x instead?

 

Since its "In Production" I don't think your able to cancel... You will have to receive it and then send it back... If this will be a DTR, then I guess the 18" may be better for you.. Though remember... 18" is bigger then 17".. lol and what happens when you buy bigger things? well usually, they cost a considerable amount more..

 

You can cancel when its "In Production" I did so last week for a better deal from AAFES site for a CPU upgrade and NBD for almost 250 less then the one I had ordered the week before.

Just got off the phone with my rep and he said some parts where making delays but my order is " Not delayed at this time " o boy that really gets the old blood moving. I all ready have the 16GB of ram and HDD's waiting on this baby to land
