I suppose this is why Asus is still doing great business in the Laptop area, they just sell Pre-Boxed systems at Local Best Buy Stores and people can just pick up systems of their choice and start playing right away

I got my R2 to keep me busy along with my desktop and work so I'm really in no rush, I'd even delay my order if it would help out fellow members, I'm really in no rush to get my PC.

Mine's still in production as well.

Depending on if it gets delayed, I might just cancel and order a NP7280-S1 from Sager.

It's been a bit discouraging with just how many of our members here have had problems with their recent orders. Not just people who show up and say I have this and this problem either. People who came here when they ordered it, and now they are documenting all these troubles when their systems come in.

I'm not sure if I've seen 1 person in the past 2 weeks who has gotten an m17x on here and has not had problems with either BSODs, dead pixels, or aesthetic defects like the media bar out of place/scratches on the cover.

I'm in Austin currently, if their factories are up in Round Rock I might pay them a visit. Just kidding, but at least this means I should receive it relatively quickly after it ships!

Well, I don't know about what people were saying about the upgrade but I checked my order page and my shipping method did update and my EDD adjusted but in a funky way. I had originally done the free 6-7 business day yet the shipment date is the 19th and my EDD was 4/22 now with NBD delivery it has been moved to 4/20. I really wish I had some connections with the factory so that I can figure out what the bottlenecks in production are just for peace of mind, if anything else. Things I've heard so far through this forum (so no clue what's valid): Engraving Machine for the Plate, 320gb HD, 2720QM processor, and 1920x1080@60hz display. Even hearing these claims are amazing because the people I have gotten over the phone from Dell are poorly informed or are not prepared to deal with people who have a firm understanding of technology and more than likely intentionally chose this machine (otherwise they would have just gotten some cheap piece of trash netbook).

Choppus: I'll put some pics down in the thread but no review/write up! I might answer a question or two about wow but no review!

Dookie:You're time in WoW is not done yet, the new PTR version has Dx11 support so you know what that means. ;) ... Also how is crysis coming a long?

I ordered on 3/21 and was told mine should ship by 4/11 for an EDD of 4/14. However yesterday I called Dell and they said I was delayed with a new EDD of 4/22.

I got an official email over night (EST) apologizing for the delay and giving me an updated EDD of 04/15/2011, original EDD: 04/08/2011.

At least they let me know in a somewhat official capacity, I would rather have this sort of communication that unknown guesses from a CSR just trying to get through his/her day...

All things considered, waiting another week isn't going to kill me or be a deal breaker, I want my R3!

    Still though, That's pretty stupid.

They seriously had to wait till the night before/morning of to inform you that your system wasn't going to be delivered?

With the waiting time for boxing/shipping from China, they've known for days that it wouldn't be ready, and should have informed you. With the required signature, many people have to change plans/make arrangements so it doesn't get delivered with no one to sign for it. They really should be more considerate with these type of things.

From what I've been reading, it looks like those whose original EDD's were around now, 4/12~ish, have been pushed back about a week. Sager is looking more tempting by the minute, but I have to have the silly lights on alienware.

I completely agree, waiting until the EDD to inform me officially of the delay is pretty crappy ...

I was shopping Sager via XoticPC a month ago before deciding upon the R3. I did not like the lack of lighted effects or the "Chicklet" style keyboard. I also read a few things about the lack of rigidity in the structure of the machine (too much flex).

Just for kicks, I looked into XoticPC again a couple of days ago and they are having supply line issues for some Clevo/Sager parts. No GTX 460M, GTX 485M video cards at all, all back ordered. They do seem to have the 6970M ATI card now however.

The thought of canceling my Alienware and getting in the back of the line
for another brand sealed the deal, I'll just try to be patient and wait it out for my R3 ...

I would say its either the CPU shortage's..(all of you people are buying the hell out of the 2720QM's lol) or its the Blu Ray... That is just what I think if it was 'hardware' based...

But a WHOLE month? I would be raising hell... if they try and push my EDD back a full month, I would literally kill a penguin.

That is quite a wait. Did they call you, or did you have to call them about the delay? It seems like some people are getting emails/calls, while some aren't getting updated at all. Honestly, an additional month delay is crazy. I ordered almost a week and a half after you, and my current EDD is before yours, but we all know that could change at any minute!

--I'm really hoping its not the BR-DVD :(

I suspected it was related to the 2720's, 6970s, or the 60hz screens but right now I'm definitely leaning towards it being a processor issue. I got the 2630, 460M and 120hz screen, so maybe I'm in the clear? Probably just wishful thinking. :p Sorry to hear all you guys keep getting delayed. :(

Yeah. If I hadn't already waited almost 3 weeks, I might consider going a different direction. Ive actually considered getting a refurbed R2 off the dell outlet.

They have some decent R2s on there. But I really want to stay in the single GPU sector, at least until the crossfire options are more powerful. That, and I dont want to deal with lack of replacement parts if something goes wrong.

I had to call them to find out why I haven't received the laptop that was supposed to arrive yesterday. Is it just me, or is this level of customer service completely unacceptable? The website is still telling me that the order is on schedule!

According to the person I spoke to, "there is no shortage of parts on this particular configuration. It is only because of the popularity and demand of this laptop that there is a delay." Does anyone buy this explanation? Is Dell just trying to hide weaknesses in its supply chain?

Also, the Alienware website now shows estimated ship dates of 5/6/2011 and 5/13/2011 for new M17x orders (standard and 3D bundle, respectively). Kind of infuriating that someone who places an order today could get their laptop at the same time as or even before someone who placed an order a month ago.

Those orders could very well be delayed once it is time to ship their systems out.

It is all luck based really, depending on when you order.

In the middle of April you would have probably gotten your system in 2 weeks or so as the average turnaround was 10-15 days. Now the average wait is around 3-3 1/2 weeks.

At the beginning of may, it could be well over a month.

No I haven't taken it apart and don't really want to right now. I either going to try a small drop of superglue, or try and find some real strong double sided sticky tape.

I would say that popularity/demand and parts delayed are pretty much the same thing. Because of the demand being high, they can't get the parts in quick enough to keep the production lines moving. Probably just 2 different people trying to explain it a different way. Thats just my opinion though. They very well could be making stuff up to just try and get you off the phone though.

What ever you do, don't close the lid for awhile if you do the super glue thing.. It will leave a residue on the top screen and it was require some major chemicals to come if.. that is if you don't open it back up for a while.. :D

But why not try and fix it with out the assistance of glue/tape?

I dont really think they're giving us the run around either, they just dont know.

If all the information you're hearing from your superiors is "We are low on parts" without devulging much more information, that's all you have to pass on.

It's obvious the orders have picked up since the middle of april, as I mentioned before, the EDD for each wave of orders have slowly creeped up until they are now over a month. I'm sure people were slow to get back into the process after the Sandy Bridge defects, but now that they're in full swing, the factory is having a hard time keeping up.

That doesn't mean we have to give them a break though ;) and we should press the reps to get us as much information as they can.

you guys think you have it bad... i'm getting mine through my college course as a perk(not really...i'm paying a lot for tuition) for taking video game programming...
the laptop is technically being leased by me until the completion of the course(so i don't drop out and run away with my neat new laptopgasm), where i purchase it for a dollar.
therefore all of the order affairs are going through the admin staff, and i'm left in the dark. PLUS, i cannot receive it until all of my fellow classmates get theirs in at the same time.

    ordered 15/3 edd...hearsay and speculation

I thought you were paying tuition our of your pocket, and I know most game design programs aren't cheap.

Do they let you customize your order? or do you have to go with what they say?

a little of both... the default setup they offered was pretty kickass.
    pretty much everything upgraded.
they allow you to upgrade what they didnt do, i.e. the ram and the video card, but its at a significantly reduced price thanks to our rep. i got the extra 2 gigs of ram and the 6970M for only 90 bucks extra(out of my own pocket).

I took the dive and placed older an M17x. My order date was 4/5 and my estimated delivery date is 4/29. The estimated delivery date was in-line with other Dell systems I’ve ordered. The clock is ticking to see if the Laptop arrives before/on/after 4/29.

I didn't upgrade the ram/hdd so that might be why my EDD is 2 weeks behind yours, though I ordered 2 days after you :(

I know people have been waiting longer then me , and i feel there pain cuz im in pain.... This is a insane wait.I ordered on march 24 with a edd of april 19th , and the dell ninjas still havent finished swimming across the ocean and breaking into the Alienware facility to return victoriously with my beast of a laptop. This is my theory , at this sad in-production screen , what takes so long to build and ship, i dont think dell even bought alienware  ! i know they did i know lol, ok i just wanted to vent some of this insaneness i been buildin up lol, thanks for the listening (reading) i feel a little better.

I was supposed to have a manager call me today. That didn't happen. I called Dell CS and they advised that my system was not delayed. Yesterday I was told it was. The guy said he would bump it to NBD because I will be leaving a few days after the original EDD.

I just checked my account and it still shows 3-5 day delivery. If I have to call these idiots 1 more time then the phone call will be anything less than pleasant.
