M17x Order Status Discussion - Part 3

Just got back to my apartment from being away all day to see a Fedex delivery tag on my door...Monday it is, then.

 

Phone status is "preparing to be shipped." What exactly does that mean? I thought the stages were production-boxing-shipped, no?

 

Preparing to be shipped take several days.

 

Mine took around 9days in that stage..

 

This weekend has been a busy one for my support page.

Looks like it'll beat the original by 3 days. I can't believe my wait is finally over. It feels like it was yesterday when I made my account and was starting the wait.

 

Hey guys, I ordered my replacement M17x R3 on 4/11/2011 and immediately got an EDD of 4/12/2011 (yea not really sure how). Right after that the EDD changed to "Information Temporarily Unavailable" and it's been like that since, so I have no idea whats going on and when I called the rep who ordered it, all I got is that it's in production. When I ordered the M1730 it only took 10 days for it to ship and there was an actual EDD the entire time. Anyone have any idea about the EDD status? Is it just because it's a replacement? If someone has info about this that would be awesome, Thanks.

i ve ordered mine M17X-R3 April the 8 and the EDD is May the 16.

System Spec:
i7 2820QM/8GB 1333 Ram/1920x1080 WLED/6970M/1.5TB Raid 0/Blu Ray/W7Ultimate

 

Two more days until mine is supposed to ship, still in production though so not holding my breath...

 

I ordered mine on 8th April and on website it was showing "Work in Progess" from past 10 days. So called my rep today and he informed me that my order is already built and boxed. Just waiting to ship it to Singapore. He was like you should get it in 3 days time

 

I ordered mine on the 12th of April and today I checked the UPS tracking web site and it's already in Shanghai. So it should be here in a couple of days (I live in Europe). The EDD was 12th of May (one month), because of so called shortages in cpu's.
Specs: 2720 / 6970 / 4Gb / 320 Gb / 1080p 60Hz / BDROM

 

ordered 3/25, edd 4/20, shipped 4/18.
excitement was at bay...until today.

 

Mine is now showing "Finalizing Production." I have not seen this before, is this a promising development? My EDD is 4/29.

 

i ordered my laptop on the 23 of march and i just got a call from a dell csr that they haven't start to build it yet because of part shortages.... great

 

Thanks, I just got off the phone with a rep and he said that it is in the build stage, so I guess I have a bit of a wait but they will give me a call when anything changes; hopefully for the better though.

 

So how long was all you guys order status saying..IN THE BUILD STAGE..?

 

2 days. Ordered 4/12, delivery date 4/20. Guess I'm lucky.

called in and got shipping upgraded to NBD.

My order was/still is delayed due to hinge and ST-Nebula red

 

I'm glad it worked for you. It definitely gives you some piece of mind knowing what is going on, as opposed to waiting for dell to update you. I got the dell update that my system shipped the same day that I received my system. That is not very convenient for people as you have to sign for it. Some people may not be able to leave work in order to sign for it. Where as if you have the information a little earlier you can plan ahead and call in sick or make other arrangements to get your system.

 

Ordered 14-03, got a EDD of 21-04. Because of supply shortage. Also ordered another R3 with a better CPU. No info on that one yet.

I'm getting really nervous here and hopefully someone else has had this problem or else I have no clue what to do.

It's EDD is 4/19 tomorrow and dell shows that it shipped out on the 16th, so far so good right? When I go to fedex's site the number doesn't bring anything on. I put in my order number like the Choppus way, and still nothing. I called FedEx and they have nothing on their system or even going to my location.

I'm having a friend come over that day to receive the package since i'll be home but this is stressful. Anyone else having this problem or heard of something similar?

 

I would do what you are doing, by having someone at your location to receive the package. That way if it comes, someone is there. If it doesn't come you can go back to Dell and state in never came. Either way you have your bases covered.

 

Sorry not a record. The quickest I have seen by someone on here was 9 days. Congrats on getting it so quickly though, that's great.

 

I don't know why so many people hated vista? Maybe because I skipped XP and went to Vista. I liked Vista, but I definitely like the 7 better.

 

Sorry to hear that they cancelled your original replacement on you. I hope they get the second one right out though. On the optimistic note, at least you haven't had anymore problems and yours is operating fine until you do get your new one. Although I don't wish anyone the bad luck of having to return and then fully set up another system to their liking. I love my R3, but setting everything up and getting everything working like it should took way to long, and I wasn't enjoying it while I had to set everything up. LOL

 

There have been multiple people that have had their replacements canceled due to this reason. I don't think it's a shortage, I just think they don't want to pay for another plate when you already have one that is customized for you.

I RECOMMEND TO EVERYONE THAT IF THEY HAVE A DEFECT AND HAVE TO SWAP THEIRS OUT THAT THEY DON'T CUSTOMIZE THE NAMEPLATE THE NEW SYSTEM AND JUST SWAP IT OUT WHEN THE NEW SYSTEM COMES IN. JUST PUT THE GENERIC NAMEPLATE (FROM THE NEW SYSTEM) ON THE DEFECTIVE ONE AND SHIP IT BACK. IT'S ONLY 4 SCREWS AND YOU WON'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH A CANCELLATION/REORDER BECAUSE OF A STUPID NAMEPLATE.

 

Crud. Now EDD is 4/25 (original order date 3/24) Dell EPP rep said the part that they are waiting on will be in tomorrow (4/19) and then they'll work on it to get it out asap. I won't play Portal 2 until it comes in!

 

Congrats!!! You finally got it! You ordered right around the time I got mine. Glad you finally got it and I hope you enjoy it. Stick around and keep everyone here updated with some kind of info so they don't go out of their minds. LOL.

 

I think we have come to general consensus (on this forum) that "preparing to be shipped" is when it's in transit from China to the US.

Mine was in this stage for 5 days.

Check the tracking link in my sig and see if you can get anymore info about your system.

 

Totally. This is why two of my replacements were canceled. Finally, they ordered a replacement with the generic name plate and I can either take the one off my current system or have them ship a new one separately.

 

Don't hold your breath waiting for them to contact you!!!

 

You can't tell people that without giving your specs in your sig. People want to compare theirs to your and maybe see what the hold up is.

Your also lucky in the fact that the quickest I have seen someones being delivered on this site within the past few months was nine days. Your 8 day delivery is a land speed record. Congrats!

 

It seems everyone has a different story about what the parts might be. Could be the color, casing, processor. Who knows.

 

I have been on this forum since around the end of FEB. I'm pretty sure it hasn't been color at any point in time. Depending on the time frame I'm pretty sure it has been all internal parts or at one point the base, and maybe another point the screen configuration.

 

I think dell/Alienware blows smoke up everyones %$#'s. On why there system is delayed. Or even the ship date. I have never been told the same EDD on my system from the start. Just a waiting game...

 

Yeah, I ordered mine on 4/1 and the guy told me yesterday that they are still waiting on parts. Unfortunately, he wouldn't tell me what the parts were or when they were expecting them to come in...Hopefully those "parts" are coming in tomorrow!

 

So he's used a few terms, including "part of the baseplate" and "assembly" which lends credence to the nameplate theory (mine is custom). It didn't sound like they were waiting on any of the electronic subsystems like a motherboard. He explicitly told he it wasn't waiting on memory, cpu or screen.

They said that the original base plate didn't pass QA, so thats something, I guess. I'd rather get a working laptop than a defective/malfunctioning/twisted metal baseplate.

 

Yeah, I don't mind waiting if it gets me a quality machine, but if they delay my EDD (4/27 to be shipped on 4/22) because they are waiting on my custom nameplate....just slap the generic one on and send it!!!

 

Have they offered you NBD shipping? I'm not certain that it changes the waiting time too much, but even a little helps! I simply sent an email asking about my order status and was offered free NBD without asking. Might be worth a shot!

 

I called and had mine upgraded to NBD for legit reasons as I was leaving for NJ. The Dell website said NBD, however when it shipped via FedEx it was home delivery.

Go figure.

 

Did you get it yet? Mine has always said "Information Temporarily Unavailable" online, and "That's all the information I have for you at this time" over the automated order status system on the phone.

 

Dookie, still waiting on mine. Parts were due in on Friday, so I am going to wait until this Thursday and call again. Not that I am in a rush, but I figure stay on top of Dell till I have it in my hands.

 

Wow, really? No they haven't mentioned anything about it. If/when I call again I'll bring it up! Thanks for the tip.

 

I've been seeing that happen quite lately so I'm not expecting too much. It's unfortunate that they lead you into believing that they did upgrade you, when in fact they'll just send it standard.

Not a problem. I'm not sure if you'll see a REAL change, but the two days or so it cuts off on the EDD is helping my wait, haha.

 

I had already put my specs in a previous post. But I've ordered the following system:
2720QM/6970/4Gb/320Gb HD/6300WLAN/1080p 60Hz/Black.
Should be here tomorrow.

 

Finally my r3 should be here in 2 days, right before our 5 day long weekend. ordered on the 8/4. ETA 21/4. not bad considering initial ETA was 17/5.

 

How did you get your ETA down by almost a month?

My order date was April 8th too, but my EDD (with NBD) is still on May 9th.

Did you call in to complain or something?

 

Nope no new info really, just that it is in the build stage when I spoke to the rep. It's annoying having to call and keep checking up on it during final exams

 

WOOOT!!! Mine just changed to "Delivery Preparation" from "In Production"... but my EDD is still the same for some reason.

My order date was 4/8 and the EDD says 5/9.

Does anyone know how long "Delivery Prepartion" takes? and if the EDD will change to reflect the current state? I really hope it doesn't stay in the "Delivery Preparation" phase until 5/9... that would suck.
