When I ordered mine, I got a 224$ rebate there by default and I added a 200$ coupon.
What is the 15% coupon!! Could I have gotten it?

My setup costed $2,578.99 before rebate and taxes. It went down to $2,154.99 before taxes with the coupons.
Are you saying I could've gotten an additional 387$ off? So 224$, 200$ and 15% (387$)???? Damn! If so, can I get it retroactively (my order is not shipped yet)!

Btw, before ordering, I tried to discuss with an agent through chat but he told me twice other then the 200$ off, he cannot do anything more.

Did you order from the Outlet?

No...I ordered from the site directly. I'm from Canada if it changes anything... Should I cancel and order from the outlet? What's the outlet? Thanks!

    Ok thats the difference then.

The outlet is a mixture of refurbished, scratch and dent, and certified new. The good thing about it is you usually get $500-700 off a computer (at least Alienware computers in this case). Most of them are refurbished but they carry the same warranty as new. Mine for example was returned by a customer because he changed his mind within the 21 day return period. My computer (new) would have cost $3,000+, I got it from the outlet for $1,996.

The outlet doesn't always have the computers in stock and you can't customize the specs. However if you chat with a rep you can usually find a computer that meets your criteria even if it doesn't show up on the site.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks DG14. Unfortunately, it seems Dell's Outlet does not ship to Canada. We get the shaft again! :(
For example, I am comparing my rig to the one in your signature which I presume is the one you got for 2000$.
The difference is you got a 2860qm and I got a 2760qm and you have the 580m, I have the 6990m. So your setup should cost about 400ish$ more I think?
    Yet you paid 400$ less!

Oh well. Regardless, I'll await eargerly my new beast :p

Hey Skyline. I wanted to PM you about something but I cannot find the PM button! Is it because my post count is still low? I have a couple of questions for ya!

I see you have the NVIDIA 580M in your system, is that correct? I haven't seen it put back up as an option yet. Is yours new or though Dell outlet?

Would be nice to hear if they have enough back in stick to start offering on new systems.

EDIT: Just saw our latest post, sorry to hear that!

So apparently the connection between my bank and Dell got cut in the middle of the transaction. So Dell decided that was fraud on my part, and canceled my order without even letting me know!! Trying to get the order put back through, but I bet I lost that system.

Dang that sucks! I'd be calling raising hell!!

I'm now wondering about my order. I placed it at 9:30am PST yesterday morning and it still shows as "In Production"??? How can that be???

Edit: Just saw it was bank related. I'm still wondering about mine though. Why would a outlet model be in production?

So apparently it wasn't my bank at all that was at fault. The rep on chat who took the order put the wrong billing phone # on the order, and when it went through verification it failed, and was subsequently cancelled. Trying to get a new order placed, but I lost that system. They better make good on this F'up!!

I just got a call from the Manager of my sales rep that I cancelled on... and he just out of the blue offered me $50 in dell credit for my bad order experience.

While it is jacked up how little Dell seems to know about the real status of it's orders at least they do try to make up for it as best they can.

So while I wait for my order to move from Production status, can anyone suggest a good wireless headset and a good wireless mouse?
I currently don't have a wireless headset but I have a Microsoft 3500 wireless mouse. Should I upgrade to say a Razer? Is it really worth it?

If I remember correctly, the m17x comes with bluetooth 3.0, not 4.0 so I presume a bluetooth mouse/headset would be a no no...

    I'm using a G390 with my gaming desktop...it's a very nice headset.

I'm thinking you shouldn't have an issue with BT pertaining to versions for basic functionality. Some features that a BT v4 headset might have may not work with v3, though.

Man I don't know if I want to shell 150+$ on a headset right after shelling close to 2500$ on a laptop lol. The G930 is definitely my high end WANT but I'll have to hide my bill from the wife :p

Understood. My wife is the same way. Luckily she got it for me this past Christmas! If it were me, I wouldn't have bought it...when I buy electronics, I don't usually focus on the higher end stuff, but only because the wife will yell about it later.

But the headset is teh bomb!

So after the fiasco that I went through with them cancelling my order, I was finally able to reorder and this time it went through with no problems. I was not able to get the exact specs that I previously ordered of course, but I think I may have actually made out on the deal in the long run. For $18 less than what I was going to pay with the first system, I got 2x 750GB hdd's (instead of 1x 500GB) and the 120hz screen instead of the 60hz. I honestly would have preferred the 60hz so I could use Optimus, but i'll deal without it.

That's a great price! Would the 120Hz be a downer for gaming? I wonder if it would cause you issues while gaming. Anyway, welcome in another waiting period lol.

Talking about waiting, anyone know if Dell Order Status moves during weekend? If I'm still in Production, is it possible I move to shipping before Monday? If not, I'll stop refreshing that stupid page! :D

I've set up the rig you have on alienware.com and I come to 1929$. The shipping is free. Do you have to pay tax? What is your total BEFORE tax? Is it 1929? If not, I'm not sure what you did. This is the price with no coupons, no nothing.

To this, I did a google search to find a coupon. The first site I found gave me " BHW1L0MX0D?MCX" as a coupon which removes 50$ off your order. When I ordered mine, I added a coupon that gave me 200$ off but that was on a 2199$+ setup. You might find another coupon (I think there's one for 150$ off). You can also just call Dell and ask them to give you a coupon. It usually work.

So with the coupon, with your exact setup, I am down to 1879$ + free shipping. That is before tax if you pay any sort of tax.

    *edit*
I found the coupons in question.
    200$ off a system costing 2199.99$+ (before tax) = 5XRZHPQ83W23FD
    150$ off a system costing 1799.99$+ (before tax) = 2CK14$Q5LM5L1F

    Hope this helps :)

Did you buy from the Dell Outlet or purchase new?

If it didn't happen by now I don't think it will. I ordered mine at 9:30am Thursday morning with priority overnight shipping. I didn't get an email saying it had shipped until 6:30pm Friday night! Luckily it's supposed to arrive before 10:30am tomorrow :D

Congrats to you guys who got/are getting soon, your systems! Well, I made a call yesterday to Dell and inquired about the delay in mine shipping. The gentleman was quite definitely from India, but had a good grasp of the English language, to which I also told him.

He tried to spout off the same stuff he has been telling everyone but I politely stopped him short and told him I knew all about the real reason (the 580m). He said he wasn't sure but if I would wait for a few, he would find out (yep, heard this before). I agreed and 10 minutes later he came back with another gentleman on the line. The other gentleman (who had a very clear southern accent) said that a shortage of 580's was an understatement and that they have been having difficulty getting them from their supplier due to 'newer technology' coming out soon (he would not elaborate and did not sound happy about having to talk to me but was cordial).

He went on to say that he understood I needed it for school and how my not having it would impact my grade. He said he would do everything he could but that it was honestly not much. After he disconnected, I got the number for the rep and will be using him for more status updates (which he graciously agreed to).

While I know I was just being pacified, it was nice to hear them at least acknowledge that there was a huge problem and they are even having trouble keeping up with the orders that were placed even while they were out of stock.

Just glad I could vent some, but damn..I am SO glad I am not a typical user, else I would have cancelled by now. :)

BOOM! I just got the most amazing luck ever. Almost too good to be true :D I was browsing my local kijiji and found a G930 listed for 75$. It said LNIB. It seemed fishy but the guy said it was perfect. So I took my laptop with me, went to the guys house, tested the G930 and everything was fine. No scratches or anything apparent.
I've been using it since this morning and so far, I cannot find where I got screwed lol. Anything I should look at where I got screwed? Are there cheap copies of the G930? It has the logitech logo and all the buttons I can see on the logitech website..

Anyway, I'm a happy camper. Over 2500$ thrown in under a week, but I'm still a happy camper :D

You should be fine. I got mine NIB from Amazon on a sale for $85, so $75 is not really out of the realm of possibility. Have fun with it, I love mine.

The rig that I bought was from the Outlet. I called up and gave the specs I was looking for and that's what the rep was able to to find in the inventory for me. I suggest anyone wanting to buy from the Outlet to either call or speak with a rep on chat, as they have access to inventory that is not available on the actual Outlet site.

Just got my M17x and I'm loving it! I'm actually surprised by it's size. When you open the lid it looks huge, but when it's closed it's really not that bad.

One thing though, it didn't come with Alienware Respawn installed. Since it's a refurbished model it only came with the OS recovery disc...would it be on there? If not how would I get it? Thanks!

I called this morning Dell Canada Order Status line and the rep told me it's at the last stage of PRODUCTION. I just sent her a mail to confirm if this is BOXING or SHIPPING. I hope it's SHIPPING as BOXING can take another 3 days :(
I tried making her offer me overnight shipment but she never proposed lol.

    DarthGator,
Try on the AR FAQ, I'm at work so I couldnt look into it more but it could be there: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...k-drive-aftermarket-drive-alienrespawn-q.html

    Cheers and congrats again!

Any of you guys ordered from Canada an m17x that has anything other than the 580m? (as the 580m can push for more delays)
If so, how long did it take from the order day to the delivery date?

I ordered on the 15th, end of day. My status still says IN PRODUCTION and my EDD is the 30th.
Last week, I talked with a rep who told me I will receive the laptop this week for sure.
This morning, I called and a rep was assigned to me. This rep told me that my laptop is in the final stage of PRODUCTION but she could not tell me if I'd receive it this week. More to it, she told me that my laptop is produced in the USA but all posts on the forum says that AW builds the laptop in China. So I don't know what to believe anymore... :(

My setup is pretty standard and nothing should be out of stock

FINALLY shipped! They must have received another batch of the 580m, because they will actually meet the (revised) EDD of 3/21. A huge THANK YOU to everyone here for sharing so much knowledge. I feel I will actually be prepared to show my new baby the love she deserves thanks to all of you.

    Step 1: repaste!

I think mine (with 6990m vid card) was actually built in the US. I ordered mine on the 3/9 and got it a week after, 3/16. My order status was in the "In Production" state 'til 3/15.

    He guys,

First post so I guess I'll tell my story (hope Bill from Dell is picking up on this).

I ordered my R3 with 580m through internet on 22 Feb. No notifications on the Dutch Dell website about any delays. 2 Days later I got an EDD of 28 March (only 5 weeks...).

so I mailed to Dell customer service (always put it in writing; I'm a lawyer ;)): "what's the deal here?" I got the usual treatment. First the rep tells me that the long EDD is standard, but that Dell usually delivers before the EDD. Then, after me having reviewed this tread, knowing about the 580m debacle and informing the rep, she tells me she knows nothing, the factory knows the details and it informed her that it will get the 580m on March 15. Oh, and by the way, Dell is out of black bases too. Nice!

No expedited delivery is possible. Dell rep tells me her request will not be approved until after the parts shortage has been fixed, and by then my order will already have been shipped before her request is actually approved. Again, nice one Dell.

Currently, after another round of e-mails, the rep expects the 580m to be in stock (hopefully: her own words) on March 23.

Conclusion: poor communication from Dell and that in a time when - as a company - you should kling on to every customer with your life (especially those that are willing to shove out around 2k or more ;)).

    If only the R3 wasn't such a looker.... ;)

    Waiting for: M17X R3 Stealth Black / 2760QM / 580 M 2GB / full HD 120 Hz screen / 256 GB Dell SSD / 8 GB 1600 php / Blu-ray

    Congrats MrD1sturbed!!!
Another good news, my status now says SHIPPED! WOOHOO! So if the status says SHIPPED since 12:00 EST (I checked before at 11:00, and it said IN PRODUCTION), how long should it take from the USA to Quebec, Canada?
I need to take off that day lol. I presume tomorrow might be too optimistic, so Thursday?

Another note, what do you guys check for the second you receive it to make sure no defect is on it.

    1) Visual check of the item such as cracks, scratches, etc
    2) Make sure it boots
    3) Make sure there's no dead pixels
    4) Benchmarks with CPU-Z and GPU-Z --> What should I be looking for? What should the benchmark say?
    5) Anything else you run to make sure everything is as planned? Windows WEI? ha!

The first thing I did, after the usual visual check, was to run AlienRespawn and created my factory out-of-the-box image. Just encase anything were to go wrong.

Yes definitely I will do all the backups, drivers updates, etc. Just wanted to see what I should run after all this to make sure I don't have a hidden problem I will find 2 months later :p

With this said, I already have my tracking number! Thats quick!
    Purolator says:

2012-03-20 12:18 PM In Transit in U.S. via U.S.A. GROUND LINEHAUL depot
    2012-03-20 12:17 PM Shipment created with reference : *********,*********

So this means it's going from the Dell warehouse to the Purolator warehouse in the US?

My notebook is here. It just arrived maybe an hour ago. I had a problem with Fedex where the truck never arrived but the Fedex status page said there was an attempted delivery (there was no slip on my door)...worked from home just to get it and I was ticked when I checked the status page at 3:15PM and saw that an attempt was made. Erm, no they didn't make an attempt since I had the whole house open and I was acutely aware of who was around the house all day long. Called up Fedex and asked for a manager, who told me I'd have to wait until tomorrow for a delivery...told him that wasn't going to fly since I'd taken the day off today (wouldn't be off tomorrow). So I told him to arrange to have it stay at the local depot until I got off work. He said he'd try to contact the driver on his personal mobile to let him know to attempt delivery again, but he also told me it was best effort in doing this and to not get my hopes up.

So I'm outside smoking on the front steps and it's 7:45PM...I'd resigned myself to picking it up tomorrow and was thinking of other things. Up drives a Fedex truck to hand me my new toy! The driver stated his boss made him swing by as a last delivery. NICE!

I'll be up late tonight messing with this thing! I've just finished OS updates and now I'm performing a backup.

Congrats on getting your new toy. Our systems are nearly identical, with the exception that I have 16GB of ram and the 120hz screen (though I actually wanted to the 60hz so I use Optimus, only downside of buying from the outlet). Enjoy it!! :D

Hi everyone, I am a new member to the community from the UK.
I have enjoyed reading this thread so much, that I have actually signed up.

I ordered my Alienware M17x R3 on 19th February and the EDD was for the 22 March which is tomorrow. The problem is my staus is still on pre-production stage since 19th February. I have read that they are having backorders for the Nvidia 580M graphics card which is what I have ordered, except I have not received any emails or phone calls regarding this.

What do you think I should do?
