Haha maybe tomorrow. This computer is so sick though! It's totally worth the wait! Updates and installations so far have taken barely any time at all!

You do a reinstall of Windows with your own SSD?

No I just ordered with ssd. I'm debating what to do with second bay though. Just drop more money and get another ssd or just go with a much cheaper 7200 rpm HDD. I beleive the 256 ssd should be large enough for all programs... I don't know yet.

I got a 256GB Crucial M4 SSD waiting for whenever it gets here. I got the 750GB 7200RPM coming with the system and am going to use that for media files and backup. I think the 256GB should be plenty for Windows and quite a few games.

I've done the same thing, bought a 256GB M4 and an extra pair of 3D glasses...it's one of the major reasons I'm so hesitant to cancel my order.

    Hi guys!

First of all I would like to thank all you guys for a wonderful forum like this! And an awesome website.
I always wanted a gaming laptop like Alienware but was confused about the various configurations. I used to browse your topics/stickys to get to know what is good.

Finally my dream came true! I ordered my laptop on 17/7/12 via the US website(though I live here in India) with the help of my cousin staying there. The reason I did not order from India's AW website because they do not have any options to customize the laptop. So I went ahead and made one on the US website. Plus it was too expensive from the India's website and they do not have facility to avail discounts from coupons(I had one for US$375, yeah its a huge amount!). And they do not have accessories like the TactX Mouse and Headset and games.

So I went ahead and ordered this configuration,
    AW M17X-R4 Nebula Red
    i7-3720QM
    16GB DDR3@1600mhz
    1920x1080 120hz w/ 3d
    2GB GTX 680M :D
    750 GB 7200rpm w/ 32GB mSATA cache
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
    Blu-Ray Slot load drive
Creative Sound Blaster Recon3Di with THX TruStudio Pro
    Intel 2230 Wireless-N

    TactX Mouse and Headset
    Diablo III

The total came out to be US$3431

I have have few queries, I'll be more than thankful if someone answers them,

    1. I have purchased a 1 year limited warranty, because the AW India told me that premium warranty is region specific. How can convert my warranty so that it will be honoured here in India? Can I get a premium warranty later? Is there any cover for the mouse and headset?
    2. The Nvidia 3D vision included in my configuration, is it 3D vision 1 or 3D vision 2?
    3. How long will my current configuration last(in years) for latest up coming games?
    4. Did I make the right choices in selecting the configuration? (any input will be welcome)
    5. Is this laptop upgradable?

    Thank you all! :)

    Edit: The EDD says 3/8/12

From what i read it is the 3D vision 2. It should last quite a while for say the next 2 to 3 years but you might not be able to play all on max settings as the years go by. I guess your configuration is fine as this is what most people chose to go with. i have no idea whether it is upgradable as i do not plan to change mine but from what others say it is quite upgradeable...

    Enjoy your new system

OK mine is landing tomorrow, got a call from delivery a few hours ago. Stoked

Ordered yesterday, and it's arriving tomorrow before 2pm (spoke to Dell's delivery company people earlier this afternoon)

Wondering why Dell is so fast with my order. That's exactly 48 hours! Surely it takes longer to have the machine built? Am I getting someone else's machine? Some refurbished machine? (this is in Malaysia btw) Should I worry here?

So you bought a pair of the Nvidia 3D Vision 2 Glasses? How do they fit, are they tight on the head and do you think you could wear eyeglasses underneath them OK?

you're probably getting one that someone cancelled.

The 500 GB hard drive and killer wireless card is why everything is on back order.

I did, I figured it'd prove for a nice tight cuddle with the fiancé watching something in 3D. They fit well, and I have a relatively big head. I can definitely wear them with my eyeglasses on as well - the fit isn't quite as snug though so I'd avoid headbanging if you're doubling up.

Got a call from "Ron" at Dell today. He told me that there was at least one part that cause my order to be delayed, but he could not see into the details to see what the part was. He also said that building the system had been completed, and that it was now in the final stages of testing and would soon be shipped. He said that I probably will not receive it by my initial EDD (no kidding, since that's Tuesday), but the official status and EDD has not changed on the order tracking page.

Sounds a lot like the same lip service some other posters here have received.

Yep just hit Dell up again...

    From the rep;

The manufacture planner team said yesterday that will chase the factory for updates and will provide feedback once they do. However, the order specification will be the same.

Whatever. Mine got to within a few hours from me now it's ?????

    Just got this.

I’m in Malaysia. The issue they mentioned is about the 3D screen settings, when you initiate 3D view, somehow something will happen to the system. I am still pending a confirmation from manufacture planner team though.

    Regards,

    #$&^*&

So perhaps it is the 3D screen that is causing issues with delivery and delays on some of our systems?

I did say to him how did they figure this out once it was already sent for delivery, we'll see if he can get this answer. I must say my rep has been excellent at helping me.

    Just got this one.

Actually they found out just not long after some of them made it complete production, and your order was actually the first 10 to reach local hub fastest, which is why the put in on hold at the courier company.

So they got a heap of 3D screen M17's with issues.... there ya go.

I ordered the stock $1499 M17X - R4.. I live in Ottawa, Canada. Placed the order on 7/19/2012 it's now, 7/27/2012, still no update or the move from production to shipped. The EDD is 8/6/2012. Anyone know as to why it's taking my STOCK Alienware to ship so long? You'd assume they have these prebuilt already would you not?

Yeah but I'm still wondering as to why it hasn't gone from production to shipped for a stock Alienware..? Lol do you understand what I'm trying to get at? :p like people are getting madly customized PC's faster than I am getting a stock one. Doesn't make sense.

There are some places that stock them. But Alienware, as far as I know. Builds them from scratch. Each m17x takes approx 8 days to build. So really customizing is just changing the stock parts. No different times. And if you got the 500 gb hard drive... there out of stock currently and on back order.

8 days would make sense as well, do they build over weekends or is just a building process that happens over the work days? Because if that's the case it would be day 6 then that my M17x has been in production for. So I should expect an update by Monday/Tuesday of the coming week hopefully?

Well, I've tried to escalate mine since I'm deploying on the 4th and I told the rep I needed it before and they told me it'd be the 3rd. However, the last 2 days Reps have called me when I was at work to update me and yesterday was told a few of the parts are on back order.

What parts exactly are on back order for you? Or did they not go into the specifics of that? Well I'm glad they're actually calling people, I just want my freaking laptop in to game! I've been game-free for the past week now, made a promise I wouldn't game until my new PC came in, just needed some refresh time but now I'm getting frustrated with the lack of communication coming from Dell's part. I just tweeted AWare so I'm hoping one of their specialists takes a look into my order as well.

The dell reps keep insuring me that my laptop in in production as it has been since the 19th and that no parts are unavailable. I just hope it gets here soon....praying for no delays.

Does anyone know if AW/Dell includes the separate Windows 7 OS disc with every order? I asked 3 service reps and got all different answers.

And shipped, with Fedex saying it should be here monday. It's a bit disappointing though, after that slog I'm just not excited about it anymore. I literally had the email typed up to send to my rep asking him to cancel my order when I hit refresh one last time on the order status page. When I saw it had shipped I kind of meh'd and decided I'd at least check it out before I make the decision.

I hear ya. BIG surprise that my order hasn't shipped yet even though it was supposed to be within 48 hours or maybe Monday at the latest. More like Monday at the earliest.

I felt guilty about the money I was spending on a laptop when I first ordered which eventually changed to excitement as my original EDD got closer. I got so frustrated when I got my first outlandish revised EDD that I don't even know how I feel about it anymore. I know that I am definitely closer to the questioning of the order compared to excited about it though.

Sure hope whenever I actually get it that it gets me pumped up again, god help me and Dell if it shows up faulty in ANY way.

*grumbles* Dell charged my debit account last night...I had my order $ + $14 in there when I went to bed, I made sure. Get an email at 3AM from my bank, telling me the charge didn't go through because of insufficient funds. I put $20 worth of gas in my car two days ago, and they just decided to process it last night. >> I'm really hoping that doesn't screw up my order and they just try to recharge again today. It's been a right pain micromanaging my bank over the last month trying to make sure my funds never dropped below my order price, for fear that THAT would be the day they'd decide to charge it. And of course, it was.

I told people about it earlier this week, if your order hasn't ship out, you can call the sales to make the 15% discount applied to the order.

Stupid thing, they didn't contact me, the laptop was sent back to get fixed for this fault before it was delivered to me...classic...

This may be another reason why others are having delays, if you oredered the GTX680m...

That definitely meshes with what my (third) rep told me about a missing license key for the 3D hardware...and your email would explain why ours are finally shipping out. Just a shame that at no time during the month it took to "build" my order and the delays after the original EDD no one could properly articulate that until a few days ago - I would have gladly cancelled my order and redid it with a 7970 and had it weeks ago.

Yep I would've changed as well yet no one could tell me what was up with mine, as in why it was 3 hours drive away and they weren't allowing it to be delivered. I only found out why two days ago after it was 8 days past EDD.... And it was on it's way back to a service center for a fix.

So you were able to apply the coupon to an existing order? I just talked to a online sales rep and she said that she couldn't apply a coupon code without cancelling and re-doing the order.
