I wonder if it's the the 3D screens that are screwing us over, it's one of the only common links I can think of.

I really hope not to end up with another delay this week. -
and i typed in all the info and my question in the end and sent it to them, and then after about 2 hrs my status changed to shipped, and they sent me an email says my laptop is shipped, i dont know if that helps or not.
and my specs are
i7-3610QM
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660M
6GB DDR3 at 1600MHz
500GB 7200RPM
cover is black
just the standard specs, i might change some of them myself -
All of the big delays have a 3720qm. Now, you might ask, then why did they ship out some 3720s that were ordered after yours? That's probably because, the 680m wasn't in stock yet and they used 'your' 3720s in those newer orders. Then by the time they got the 680m in stock the 3720s were out of stock, probably they still are. The 3720qm is the part that most of you waiters have in common. I wish you the best of luck and hope they'll be shipped soon. -
Mine was just delivered : D can't wait to get home now
Sent From My Rooted E3D -
Just pointing out I'm a 3610, not a 3720. A shortage of 3720's shouldn't have affected my order at all. Do we have anyone who can confirm receipt of a m17 with a 3D display?
-
Ah, I just see evoandoids is shipped, he has a 3720 and a 750G. So perhaps it's the 680m again that's out of stock. Well, perhaps I want to see too much in the data here. It could be that there is no logic behind it, just dumb luck and little to no control in the order management, as in prioritizing and reserving parts for older orders.
Again, for people thinking of ordering a m17x r4, it might be a good idea to let your Dell sales person investigate whether the total combination of your order might cause some delays due to some supply shortage. You would then have the option to change a problematic part. That's what I did. I am not saying that I'm sure that I received mine within 12 days because of this. It could be that he just said "no problem" without being able to check that in the first place. We'll probably never know. At least I did the best I could. -
Either way, my waiting is about to end. I hope yours does soon as well!
At least you were productively impatient in this thread. -
Well, well.. this could be a potential issue for any new buyers:
Find a Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Server, Printer, Software, Service, Monitor or TV at Dell.
A delay time of 17 DAYS if you choose to order the 3D 120Hz 1920x1080p screen. -
Well where's mine then?! I didn't get no fancy shmancy 3D.
-
I order my m17x R4 on 07/20 with a 3D screen and the 675m with an estimated delivery of 08/06.
I find it ironic because I had a 7 day delivery originally- with an EDD of 08/06. Now, with Next Business Day shipping I still have an EDD of 08/06. Makes no sense to me..except that their order status page is horrible & unreliable.. -
Hi all.
As I am in New Zealand my order goes through Australia on its way to me.
So my order was.
3720
GTX680m
3d screen - Standard
Nothing to out there.
Ordered on the 7/5, EDD 7/23.
On the 7/17 it was with the local carrier. So I rung Dell on the 7/19 to get a tracking number, finally got one after they gave me the run around, rung the local carrier, she said they don't have it as the consignment number had been cancelled and refunded and a new one needed to be issued????? HUH! So called Dell back they said yes they do have it...? Confused...
So I sent Dell an email, and the local carrier, opened a care case with Dell.
Since then I have made a heap of phone calls and a few emails.
Today I got a phone call from the carrier in Australia as Dell had sent an email to them asking where it was. This person from the Australian carrier said Dell emailed them telling them to put a hold on it as it was to be returned.
Got Dell on the phone and sent them another email. As it turns out the hold was put on it by Dell due to a hardware technical issue? The laptop is sitting with my local courier about 3 hours drive away and has been since the 7/17 yet it is going back and another one is going to be sent out....apparently!
I only know all of this due to my efforts. Can't believe it's been sitting there, no one has informed me of what is going on. I will let you know what the go is once I hear more. I will see if I can find out what the issue is as well.
Totally annoyed and slightly confused..... -
ok after playing with my computer for a few hours now i love it the think i like the most is the sound quality ( i have beats
) its huge tho haha i was expecting that tho anyways love this thing hope everyone gets there sooner that expected like me haha

After 3 months of extensive hesitation, discussion, reading, and learning, I ordered my M17x R4 on 2012/07/24, leaving time for me to be antagonized by the wait. The estimated ship date is 2012/08/03. I got an amazing discount and had a great experience with everyone I talked to along the way along the way. Here is what's on its way:
Alienware M17x R4 with Stealth Black Soft Touch Finish,
Intel Core i7 3610QM,
AMD Radeon HD 7970M,
8GB of Memory at 1600MHz,
750GB 7200RPM HDD,
Killer Wireless-N 1103,
Widescreen FHD 60Hz 1080P Display,
Windows 7 Home Premium,
with a 1 Year Advanced Warranty,
and an Alienware Orion 17" Backpack
Leaving the final price including tax and shipping at $1,585.01 Canadian through Dell small and medium business.
A few things left over to buy on my electronics wishlist like a SSD for an OS drive or smaller things like a gaming mouse, headset, and studio microphone. Plus I need to install Ubuntu and repaste the heatsinks and do a fresh install of Windows 7 to my SSD. Anyone have any suggestions for that SSD anyway? I'm looking at a Crucial M4 right now.
So that's it for me folks, talk to you later. -

What a shocker. So much for 'on its way to their shipping facilities' *sighs*
"Due to unforseen circumstance, we have experienced another delay with your order number *****106. Our new Estimated Delivery Date will be on or before 7/31/2012(updated). Due to this additional delay, the Federal Trade Commision requires we receive your consent to continue with this order else we will be forced to cancel the order automatically." -
Full specs are m17x Red/3610QM/680M/120mhz 3d Screen/6GB Ram/500gb 7200 +32gb Msata SSD Caching/BluRay/ Intel 6250 WIFI.
Let's keep each other posted. I have a feeling we'll be getting it a day or two before the EDD despite what was said about the delay with the 3d screens. -
Yeah, total BS.
I threw a stink last week on Twitter at Alienware and Dell, and Alienware DM'ed me asking for my order number to look into it. They got back to me Monday telling me my laptop had already finished building and was ready to be sent out to the carrier - FedEx with an EDD of 7/26 or earlier.
Now I get this e-mail this morning asking me to consent to ANOTHER week delay?! Unbelievable... -
I've sent off yet another email to my rep. And go figure, I got his 'out of office until 7/26/12' reply. At this point I'm about ready to cancel my order, which is going to be a right pain considering it's going to leave me with a useless 256GB SSD and a spare pair of 3D glasses.

I feel your pain. I ordered the 29th of june, and my laptop is only now (july 25th) leaving Shanghai after 35+ emails and countless telephone calls. I had an unbelievable experience which is far too long to share here, but it started with them throwing away my money for a good 10 days, double charging me for a headset, then delays, delays, delays. I cant really recommend doing business with them. In my country there are laws against advertising for stuff you cant deliver, your milage may vary.
BTW, they told me my case was highly unusual. Ofcourse I know better from reading this forum. -
Yesterday the Dell order status page was updated to Shipped! Later in the evening I also received an e-mail that the package had been shipped and that it was due to be delivered on the 26th! (One day earlier).
The UPS tracking number was finally activated at the tracking page as well, although no info was available yet, because package had not yet been picked up.
I wake up this afternoon to find another e-mail explaining that "due to popularity my shipment has been postponed to the 7th of August." (Dell Order status still claiming it is shipped, tracking number still active with no information)
So I pick up the phone and call Dell. The guy seems pretty new to the concept of international shipping and Dell export practices (probably a holiday substitute), so I lose hope pretty fast. However, as I talk to the guy I refresh the UPS page and that lovely green bar pops up highlighting "Export Scan: Shanghai".
Apparantly the package is on its way, but somehow, Dells delayed shipment automailer was triggered somewhere in the process. Shipment is due for delivery on the 27th again as originally estimated, confirmed with UPS. I have seen others have the same thing happen, so nothing new, happy that it is on track.
Best of luck to all of you who are dealing with delays.. -
this process is ridiculous, the communication is just horrible. Worst part is the automated email telling to choose to accept the delay or just outright cancel it, as if there's no feelings involved. My EDD has been pushed to July 31st now, this is the 2nd delay. Right now I am so angry and frustrated with Dell/Alienware, but there's nothing I can do about it. -
Just to keep you guys in the loop just got a response from Dell (not my usual rep - one I got through a bit of a chain of autoreplys) -
"I looked to see where your order was in production and it shows that it is ready to ship, HOWEVER, they have put a stop ship on this particular system due to quality control. I can see that an expedite was sent in on the 6th, 11th and 18th. The last update shows that they are working feverishly to correct the issue so that the stop ship is lifted." -

Okay, so I just got off with the rep I contacted today, and they seemed to have a bit more information on the subject. Take it for what you will, but here's what they just told me:
Apparently something is wrong in the BIOS of these machines, a '3D display license key' they called it is missing which means while it'll boot and run on the factory install, if you ever had to reload the OS it wouldn't recognize the 3D panel.
Now, I take that to mean that they white-list hardware like HP does? Someone with a bit more tech knowledge feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
I'd imagine that's something that we could easily reflash at home with an updated bios, but if that is in fact all it is then I'm glad they caught it in quality testing before they sent it out, because the first thing I was going to do with mine is install an SSD and re-install Windows. I'm going to give it another day or two and see if I hear anything from them. If not, I'm canceling and looking into the refreshed MSI GT70's with the 680m. -
It's really too bad, my first purchase experience with Alienware is a nightmare and full of disappointments. -
It really is a shame - especially since one of the few reasons I went Alienware over Sager is because I felt that AW would be able to get my order to me faster. What a mistake that was.
However, to their credit, every Alienware/Dell rep I've talked to has been very helpful and at least seemed genuinely sorry about the delays. It's the same trap I keep falling into with Logitech though - shoddy products that fall apart, but the CS team is top notch and falls all over themselves to help. -
Many m17x r4 with the 3d screen already shipped. Iam currently waiting for one and they tell me that some parts are missing at the moment and iam stuck "in production". So i dont know. They really like to make up stories.
-
Mine arrived!
Some observations you'll perhaps note:
* Keyboard flex is an issue, but not noticed when typing. It's there, though. Especially on the left side. This is something I expected, but really hoped wouldn't be the case. It is.
* The 1920x1080 screen was the right choice. People said text is too small and such. It's not.
* It's FÍN LARGE. It really takes some getting used to coming from a 15 inch laptop. And it's heavy. I'm a pretty big lad, and I wrote off complaints about its size. But really, it's what you genuinely call "semi-portable". You're not bringing it to Starbucks, and you're probably leaving it in its bag on the plane. Disregard these warnings about its size at your own peril. The youtube videos don't do the size justice. -
Going to try to get this updated. Updated through page 234, I'll do some more later.

Note: the EDD listed is the original EDD, as far as it is known. And ShSC is the date the order tracking status changed to shipped on the Dell order tracking web page. EDDc is the change of an expected delivery date through an order status update before the order switching to shipping status. So EDDc is not the date given in a Dell e-mail with the UPS tracking link, that one seems to be quite erratic. Wait a bit (a day) for the UPS link to provide you with a UPS estimated delivery date. With my XPS17 order, UPS estimated to deliver 30 calendar days earlier than the Dell estimate, UPS was right. -
hey Antipathy,
my 2nd delay EDD has been changed to 7/31, same as yours... -
I couldn't figure out how to get the formatting right without putting it in code. Anybody got any tips for that? -
Well after my laptop has been sitting with the courier at the other end of the country for over a week because it was going to be sent back due to a hardware technical issue. (See page 242 of this Thread.)
I get an email this morning from Dell.

So fill out my details again. I thought I was confused before, now I feel dizzy like I've been popping pills. I'll be amazed if it does turn up, more than likely it will be another F-UP and it will be going back to the factory.
Will let ya's know.... -
Received mine today... All seems AMAZING so far... EXCEPT the USB's on the left side are not working correctly (constantly disconnects my Ext HD). Already contacted tech support, is this a big issue to fix?
-
Made the order for the M17x yesterday afternoon with the 7970M with the usual configurations and was told my EDD was on the 7th of August 2012.
Received an email today morning saying that my order is ready to be shipped and that I should receive it on or before the 31st of July 2012. -
I know this doesn't help anything but I just feel like whining some more. Here is another lucky person that seems to have floated right through our delay issues:
just got my R4 today... what a sexy beast... W O W is right!
Alienware M17x R4
[Intel Core i7-3720QM] [6GB DDR3] [512GB Samsung SSD + 500GB 7200 HDD] [GTX 680M + 1080p 120Hz Nvidia 3D Vision 2] Order Date: 7/9/12 Delivered: 7/24/12
Now I have to go find some cheese..... -
I tried this:
-
so basically it's just another way to say the same exact thing, nothing is being done to offer reasons WHY our orders are delay nor anyway to speed up the process. -
I am a technician by trade and have a hard time imagining that a request to expedite does anything to help. I can just imagine the system builders sitting around with the laptop open waiting on their desk when suddenly a message comes whipping through one of those vacuum tubes that you see in the movies.
One builder grabs the message: "Hey guys, I got a message to expedite this one!"
Another builder: "Let me look over here for a sec... oh hey here's the part that we needed the whole time!"
First builder: "That's great! Let's get this done right away, thank god they told us to expedite this one!" -
If everyone calls to "expedite" their order, then aren't we all back to square 1? Haha
-
I just love how mine shows it has been expedited 3 times...and delayed twice.
-
Well I think they are having problems with the M17x R4 like a poster said a few pages back. I myself am looking to purchase one next week but have noticed that when you go to their main page to order and customize the machine through the "featured promotions" (the one with the 15% off) you get redirected to a page that says the item is no longer available.
If you select just a normal M17x to customize a lot of the normal options are no longer there. -
-
-
I got my laptop today!! OHH baby does this computer run like a dream! No complaints. Took 19 days from an evening order on july 6 to opening the box today (july 25), not too bad. What should I do first on it?
