Haha, well I have most of my stuff via GROUND from the U.S. happy to say it's all been mint when it's arrived. You gotta take into consideration the amount of packaging that surrounds the laptop too right? 2 boxes and high density foam should be more than enough until your baby makes it to your front door step.

As for the shipping I had Canadian Standard, I obviously did call frustrated when it was stuck in the production phase (which to me felt like FOREVER) and the Rep said he expedited the order.. I don't think it really made a difference. If you want real answers, contact Alienware directly. I've been dealing with Juan Rojas from Alienware and he's honestly been the BIGGEST help I've gotten throughout the entire purchase process. Answers questions, confirms via email and phone call, and responds within a few hours, like I actually have an email conversation going with him and he even threw in a free TactX keyboard at no charge because of my mishap with Dell when I called the regular reps.

 

I'm sure they pack the box well when they finally get to that point . Mine still shows Canada Standard as the shipping method on the Order Status page, that's probably all they have up here or something.
Do you have the email address for Juan? Would be great to find someone who deals with Canadian orders. I would think they could at least spring for air shipping with a delayed order that has been "expedited" 500 times.
I am working with a "case manager" from Dell Canada Care department who I think has no real idea what's going on but is just meant to let you vent or something. I also have Rev/Rachid from the sales thread working on it too but it's looking more and more like I won't have the laptop until at least the middle of August.

Here's something weird that's going on with my order.... I placed my order on 7/26 and it's been in production since then so my EDD is 8/8 and i saw the charge go through my credit card and it was on hold for a couple of days and now i see that the money is back into my account and afterwards i called Dell and was talking to someone who i really couldn't understand very much and he assured me that my order was fine and in production, but the part of them not going through with the charge on my bank is worrying me... as my EDD is getting closer i don't want to get a call saying my order was cancel because that has already happened once before when trying to order this machine so is this normal? would they charge my bank before they ship it out? or should i call and see why the charge didn't go through? i have already called my bank and they told me everything was approved but it was Dell who didn't collect the money...

Any insight into this would be appreciated, I'm just worried of them canceling my order again and further delaying my AW where i might just have to buy from somewhere else which i don't want.

 

Haha, yep, and I'm pretty sure Canada Standard is the only option, regardless, I'm at home today praying for the Purolator truck to come by haha. I work in an hour too though so I hope it comes before then! should be able to clear up any questions you have about your order, leave your contact number and he'll even give you a call.

 

It sounds like Dell ran a preauthorization on your account to verify that the funds were available, but didn't actually debit (or charge) the account. It's normal for preauthorizations to disappear after a period of time, if no debit or charge follows. It's the bank's way of ensuring the funds are available by limiting your access to them.

 

I see, Thanks for giving me some insight of what of might happened but should i be worried? my AW has been in production for a couple of days now and is very close to EDD so i really don't want any kind of issues cropping up.

 

ordered my AW on 7/18 and I just spoke to a rep. They said it shipped august 6th so....its gonna be here by tuesday. Damn non-business days why do you haunt me so?

 

What specs did you get? My EDD is Monday and they said its going to be 3-4 days after that till they ship it.

 

M17x R4 Stealth Black, i7-3610QM, 6GB RAM, 1920x1080 60Hz, AMD 7970M, 500GB 7200RPM HDD, Blue ray, and the regular wireless card.

 

Only thing that'll hold you back is probably that hard drive, since it was on back order. I only have a different wireless card and graphics card but yeah, I ordered the 20th and still don't have it.

 

Laptop arrived 11am today at work, only managed to open the box and power it on at about 9pm or so. What an amazing machine this is!

It's natural to be worried, I probably would be because I'm paranoid, but chances are that it's nothing out of the ordinary. That doesn't eliminate the possibility that Dell did actually mess something up, though. Sorry, I was trying to alleviate some of your concerns, but I don't think I did a very good job.

 

I'm pretty paranoid myself, especially after having my first order cancel out of the blue, but thanks a lot for the information and insight, It has relieved some of my worries.

I later called and found that it was exactly as you said and i should be seeing my card charged when they do ship my AW.

Updated order status. I checked the QVC website today and whoa, it says it's shipped with an EDD of August 7th, coming from Gardena, California and I'm in Northern California. Can't wait...now just biting my fingernails that it's an Ivy bridge. I'm doubtful after reading the updated info on the QVC site. Oh well, it should still be an awesome machine

First order was July 5th with EDD of July 23rd. Got cancelled due to part shortage or something. New order July 30th with EDD of August 20th.

Yeah, talked to my "case manager" today who told me that 3-5 business day Purolator ground is the only Canadian option. So happy that my sales rep "sweetened" my deal by adding Next Business Day shipping that is complete BS. Case manager told me that my order was almost done Production and "should" ship today. So, my EDD is now 8/22. Original EDD 8/6.

I ordered on 7/20. Very frustrated considering I need this laptop for work and another 16 days really isn't going to cut it.

I'm leaning towards canceling my order...

 

I ordered the same day as you with the same EDD but mine shipped yesterday.

 

My AW has been shipped!
I have next day delivery so it should arrive by Monday or Tuesday, My EDD is 8/8/12 though so hopefully i'll get it 1 day earlier.

Looks like they've updated to show the tracking number and it's being shipped from NASHVILLE, TN and the estimated delivery is 8/7 so one day earlier =p

 

OMG. Even I ordered on 7/20 and still my EDD is 8/6. No news about my shipment. Can I know your configuration?

 

How long after a "Manufacturing Build Complete" status does it actually leave the factory? My original EDD was Aug 24, it's now Aug 15, but it's not yet shipped from the factory (Factory in Malaysia to me in India).

Ordered 8/1...original EDD 8/15...says it shipped today though (8/6). My config was base +3720, +1080p 60Hz, +680m...thats it. Not celebrating until its actually in my hands and used with stability for a couple of days, but this was my config and it seemed to ship quickly compared to other experiences in this thread.

 

My AW m17x shipped today. Ordered on 7/20 with edd of 8/6. On Friday evening 8/3, I received an update that my status was delayed until 8/21. Then a couple of hours ago I got a phone call saying it has shipped. My specs are Nebula Red, 3610qm, 6gb ram, 500 gb HD with Caching SSD, 680m Video card, 3d 120Mhz screen, Intel 6250 wifi card. It is being shipped from Hawthorne, CA. I wish I would have known that since I live maybe 15 minutes away and just wasted $25 bucks on NBD shipping.

Oh,...and I was just about to pick up the phone to cancel the order, that's when I saw I had a voicemail saying it was shipped. So I don't know..I was excited for the whole time during the builid process, then let down due to the delay. I was looking at alternative options during the weekend. I guess I'll be excited when tomorrow arrives.

 

I ordered 7/20. On 8/3 I got an email stating it was delayed until 8/22. Today I received an email stating it shipped and will be here on 8/7. So I'm pumped.

I had the 3820, 32GB ram, 256 SSD, 680m with 3D, Killer Wireless.

 

At last shipped. Ordered 7/20, EDD 8/06, few min back its say shipped. Now EDD 8/09. Very much excited.

 

Wow my order has actually shipped, that didn't take long! Now if it was only NBD shipping like it says on my order. Sad part is that I don't really feel excited any more.

 

So I placed my order last week and Laura the rep over the phone took care of me and they ran my debit card and it put the total in a "processing" state. This is a debit card so things are processing and then they post. Well I noticed this morning that the charge disappeared and the amount went back into my available balance. The order is still in production and not cancelled. Anyone have any idea what is going on? I just want the money pulled and posted that way I don't have to watch my checking account.

Last I heard, the 500GB HDDs were on back-order. Do we have any updates about that?

 

Ordered mine on Monday the 30th, it shipped on Monday the 6th, and received today, Wednesday the 8th.

Everything is working just great. Played some Batman Arkham Asylum in 3D, which looked amazing.

 

They do not charge your account until the laptop actually ships.

 

Ah makes sense but its also kind of frustrating lol.. I don't lime having to balance that large of an amount in my daily checking account

 

I tried to order a config last night with the 680m and the rep told me there is an 18 day delay for that gpu I was hoping to get an r4 in my hands before a trip on 9/1. Looks like I will need to wait until I return unfortunately to order. Congrats to those that recently received their systems with the 680m!

Ordered mine (R4 in sig) on 8/6 and EDD is 8/17, I have to have it get here by 8/18 before I leave so I am hopeful there are no delays.

I wanted a 680m instead of the 7970m, but the delays are just too long, not a big deal anyways

 

They actually took down the option to add the 680m on the M17 & 18x.

Anyone know of any great coupons or deals for the m17x r4 in the USA? Ordering next week when my laptop gets back to Dell and I get my money back. I got $150 off last time but I see people are getting a lot more off than that. Please let me know can't find anything more than 50 dollars on google haha.

Well I went ahead and tried to order my build tonight and the GTX 580m was pulled as indicated earlier and they will not say if it is ever coming back. I was offered the GPU's currently listed on the site for a new order. The other thing I learned is that the quote I received last night is a "reservation" not a price. When the 15% off expired apparently today the quote is no longer valid - I was disappointed to say the least. So right now I guess I am waiting to see if the 680m comes back and if the discounts return.

 

The 15% was a promotion that ended Wednesday. For the 17x, if you customized the laptop to be $2,699, you would have gotten 15% off. Likewise, 10% for ~$2,299, and 5% for $1,999.

No clue when the promotion will roll around again

 

They did drop the price of the 7970m $100 on the US site.

 

So I just got off the phone with Dell EPP. I ordered mine on the 2nd with the GTX680M and the 3D screen and was asking her if there is a delay.. This is the email she sent me after our conversation.. I will keep everyone updated with her response..

Where did you find the part on the website ??

 

I found the price drop when I was configuring an M17x R4, it was $300 to upgrade from the 660m to the 7970m, now it is only $200, not sure about the card itself though, I think you have to contact them directly.
