Looks like my long awaited system is in my area code. Purolator shows it as having made it to the Vancouver depot. I would guess that it will be out for delivery tomorrow. Unfortunately I'm out of town right now HAHAHA. That's just the way this order has gone.

I ordered a new Alienware X17m myself a few days ago. The 680M was MIA so I opted for the 7970m. I was considering on cancelling the order after reading AMD's ignorance but then came across a tweet that restored confidence that it will eventually be resolved and that I can turn off Enduro in the meantime. ETA is 8/27 and the laptop bag (Orion Messenger Bag) is set for 9/14 although they expedited it for me since I kinda questioned why there was a 2 week gap. In most cases the bag comes first.

    Anyways my specs
    i7-3610qm (2.3Ghz)
    FHD 1920x1080 display (non-3D)
    AMD 7970m

The reset is stock basic config... The only other addition I got is I spent the extra $50 on the accidental damage coverage for the year. The plan is to extend it near the end of the first year for another 2 or 3 years if I can.

Dang man, I can't believe you're still waiting on this thing. I feel for you. :(

    At least it's close.

I think you will be very happy with the 7970M.

Thanks man, just checked and it's on vehicle for delivery as we speak. As long as someone doesn't manage to trick the delivery guy at my apartment building it should be waiting for me at the depot when I get back into town later this week.

Hate to admit that I am still looking forward to getting my hands on it even after all this waiting but it better be in PERFECT, pristine working condition.

How are you liking yours so far?

I have been very impressed with it so far. I was worried about the glossy screen, but it really is beautiful. Zero issues with mine.

My desktop is an i5 2500k @ 4.7Ghz, and 560ti 448 Cores @ 850Mhz, and this laptop performs quite admirably in comparison. I'm playing Skyrim more than anything right now, and I have it very modded with HD textures. The 2GB VRAM makes a noticeable difference over the 1280MB in the 448.

Great to hear about the glossy screen, that was one of the things I was dreading.

I'm still rocking a Q9550 at 3.8GHZ but have it paired with a GTX570 and am able to play all the newer games maxed out still. I'm expecting to get a nice jump in processor speed and hopefully the same if not better GPU perfomance with the 680m.

Hey guys! First Post :) Ordered my Alienware M17x R4 Last Friday :p Super pumped ;)
    My specs are
    i7-3610QM
8GB 1600 DDR3 RAM (Will Probably up that up to 12 later on)
    2GB VRAM 7970M
500GB 7,200RPM HDD (Will also add a boot SSD at some point)
    1080p 60HZ Screen of course :p
    Killer Wireless N 1103
    Blu Ray Drive
    W7 Home Premium

Just checked Order status today, EDD is next week (23/08/2012) I am really hoping to get it before next week as I am away, and with the rents working I would probably have to get it Redelivered or Signed by a neighbour (£1700 Laptop with my neighbours COOL STORY BRO :L) But from what I've read and the fact that I have both a Bluray drive and the Killer Card, I doubt I'll get it this week, especially as it hasn't even gone into production yet. Oh Well :p What's the average delivery time for us Brits anyway on the Alienwares (once they have been built obviously).

Yay! Just got word that my AW M17xR4 has reached the city late this evening. Now just waiting for delivery. Original EDD was 8/24. Now will get it 8/16 hopefully. 8/15 is a holiday in India, so no deliveries on this day :(

    My config:
    i7-3720QM
8GB 1600 DDR3 (will up it locally to 16GB by EoY)
2 GB 680M (the 2nd last 680M in stock at the Malaysia factory as per the helpful Dell rep)
    FHD 3D screen
1TB 5400RPM HDD (Yeah, i Know, but I already have a 120 GB Vertex 3 SSD ready and available for the 2nd slot)

Keeping fingers crossed for delivery and flawless machine. :)

I've heard Dell basically ignore the online status updates until it ships, a number of people have said that it stays in pre production for days and suddenly says shipped.

I ordered online on 8/6 at 2am in the morning, and it seemed to went straight to "in production" (never seen it in pre-production) by the time I woke at 9am or so, I do not think it was ever in pre-production. I got next day shipping as well. My first EDD was 8/17 and when it shipped today, it changed to 8/16 by 4:00pm so I am only ahead of my first EDD by one day.

Just found this thread after refreshing my order status hourly for 3 days and seeing the order being "In Production" ever since the night I placed it.

A buddy of mine (who lives in the same area as me) ordered an m17x about 2 weeks before I did, he ordered his on 7/28, and it was delivered to him on 8/1. I was amazed at how fast he got his. I ordered mine on 8/12 with an EDD of 8/23 (I found a $50 off coupon and figured "why not? I'll get the fastest shipping"). It was listed on the order status as "In Production" the same night I placed the order, and tonight its still "In Production."

How long does a unit typically remain "In Production?"

    M17x R4

    Mars Red
    Intel i7 3820m
    6GB RAM
    Full HD 1920x1080 Display
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 675m
    500GB 7200rpm Hard Drive
    Slot-Loading Dual-Layer DVD Burner

I ordered mine on the 2nd of August and originally had an EDD of the 21st of August. It was in "In Production" up until today and it shipped out. I have next day shipping and my EDD has changed to tomorrow the 16th. So total time 2 weeks exactly.

Great... My money was put back into my account, and after really weird chat sessions, I found out from a nice Dell Case person, that the back cover is on back order *lol what?* and will not be in till at least the 19th, I subtly said that I would like it by the end of the month, and she "garunteed" it by the end of the month, and upgraded my order to expedited.
I have friend who's Alienware took 8 weeks to get to him and had numerous garunteed, but in all fairness it was a 4k set up xD and he got compensated

Just got my R4. Started up, setup the rest of Win7, shut down, opened up the machine to install my SSD and find that that 2nd bay came without an interposer! :( Now wondering what to do. I have a 1TB 5400 and although rest of the WEI gives 7.9, this drive makes it 5.9 :(. Can I go to a dell retailer in the city and just buy the damn interposer?

If you can wait a few days, get a hold of Dell and let them know it was missing. They should send you one without any issue. If you can't wait, I'm sure you local computer shop should have some for relatively cheap.

Just curious, when you opened it up, did it have a hard drive caddy with a rubber piece in one end? Did you check inside that rubber piece?

Yeah, the drive caddy with the rubber thingy is there - but no interposer. So now have gone ahead and put in the SSD instead. Working fine. I'll get the interposer from a local shop if possible and then add the 1TB back as my data drive later.

Just installed Windows 8 Pro (from MSDN). IT ROCKS on the Alienware.

Can anyone that has received their unit tell me if they have slight indents on their lid that start almost from the left and right sides of the lid and go in towards the narrow section of the lifted ridge that goes down the center of the lid? The ones on mine are subtle and you almost have to look in the right light to see them. They do look like something that could happen if too much pressure was put on the lid but I really hope that's not the case.

My m17x is now "Under Production" in the status on the Dell site.
Anyone has any clue about how long it usually is in this step before going to the last step Shipping ?

It all depends on if there are any delays for your system. My status showed "In Production" for a month before I received my laptop. The status didn't change to shipped until the day after I got my tracking info from my rep.

Hey guys I have a question before I make my order for M17x R4.
It seems like from DELL.COM if I make a purchase over $699 for M17x I can still get a bonus $200 voucher to spend with Dell or an xBox 360 for a limited time. Is there any chance that I get a discount from some dell agent here in this forum besides also get that $200 bonus?

Just got a delay notification that it was delayed to 9/11. I'm not so worried about the delay as much as I would be the reason for it. Called the notify group (as per the email) but they had nada for it. Guess I need to call Customer Service. I also saw the 680M showed up and it cost a $550 from the base vs $200 for the 7970m and $250 for the 675M.

Update: Just got an indication that the order was delayed due to out of stock parts and it would need to be re-entered. This sucks... I'll try to negotiate something with the cancellation group since they will be re-entering it and try to get a few upgrades in there if I can.

Update: Cancelled it. I'll call the US line and work something out with them.

Actually the system was eating mine which explains why it never left Pre-Production phase. It never made it to the warehouse or anything so that's why it was delayed. The system must of done that. I managed to get a good deal the second go around when I reordered it. Apparently the laptop bag was stuck in limbo too. This time the laptop bag shipped out the next day. :p

    Ordered mine 8/20. Options: i7-3720QM, 16gb 1600mhz, GTX 675m, 1TB RAID 0, Blu-ray drive

EDD is 9/6 (Next day shippping) but I'm hoping to get it next week because the semester starts on 9/4. Well, that and I'm totally psyched about getting my first Alienware, obviously. Maybe I'll just play with my free xbox in the meantime.

Anyone a little more 'in the know' think I have a chance at getting my hands on it next week?

I ordered the 17th, mine went into production that day. I'm still waiting, though my rep said that it should ship either late this week (guessing not since it's Friday) or early next week. My EDD is 9/4.

3720QM, 8gb (my extra 8gb is already sitting here), 7970, 500gb (240gb ssd already here as well), DVD and 1080p 60hz screen.

Wish they would next day it. I am stuck with 2 day.

My M17x is supposed to be shipped one day, what do they usually use? I'm a Paramedic and the day it's supposed to show up is when I'm on. FedEx delivers early, UPS late - just trying to figure out when I need to get coverage. Don't want it to be sitting out in front of the house for a day!

For specific questions about orders, have your order number ready and call 1-800-ALIENWARE.

I will move merge this new thread from the main Alienware forum into the M17x Order Status Discussion thread.

Answer: FedEx if you're in the United States.

    OMG, no way!!!

I have the same config on order. Placed on 8/8, w/ ETD of 9/6. If you got your shipping notice today, I should have mine very soon. YAY!!!

If I were you, I'd call into work too. Once I have a tracking number, I'm going to block out my schedule for that day and see no more clients than are already on the books. I've got my priorities. :p

Come to think of it, if you are getting yours around now, and you ordered three days (one business day?) before I did, that gives me a good chance of getting it by friday. Well, maybe that's wishful thinking, but hopefully I'll know for sure once Dell support gets back to me. Let us know when it arrives!

I talked to them yesterday, they upgraded me to one day shipping and when I checked later it had shipped. It's getting delivered today!

I wonder if they need a signature?

Awesome! Glad to hear it. Yes, they will most definitely need a signature.

EDIT: Just got off the phone with dell. They said that since there is no delay, the laptop is on track to arrive 'well before the EDD' and that it would be shipping any day now. They wouldn't say if I would likely be receiving it this week, though. Still kinda keeping my hopes up. I've been banking on it shipping either today or tomorrow.
