I'm looking at ordering an M17x R4 with a 680M as soon as I can get a little $$$ off the price (better than the $50 coupon right now). Curious to know if anyone has ordered one lately since they came back on the config page and what their EDD is? I'm heading out of the country for a couple weeks in September, it would be great to get one of these in my hands shortly after I return![]()

Why oh why oh WHY does THIS weekend have to be a holiday?
My m17x just shipped today and 2day shipping is going to take 5 days to get here.
big frown -
I did overnight and it's not going to be here until Tuesday. It shipped 2 weeks ahead of the EDD.
EDIT: Order date was the 27th fwiw. -
Finally pulled the trigger! Ordered on Friday and now the wait begins.
-
Ordered on the 26th of Aug and just found that mine has shipped. So stoked, it's my 1st Alienware. It's an M17x R4, 1080p, bluray, killer wireless, 660m.
Can someone point me in the direction of a proper setup procedure or thread discussing such? I haven't been able to find one regarding initial setup.

Woot! My laptop shipped 2 days early. Because it's beating the weekend this shaved a whole 4 days from the arrival timeframe. ^_^ Can't wait!

Hello, I just ordered an M17x r4 with the following specs
i7 3610qm
AMD 2gb 7970m
8gb ddr3 ram
750gb 7200rpm hd
Full hd 60hz screen
Blu-ray drive
Killer wireless wifi card
3 years warranty + 3 years accidental damage
I ordered it yesterday, and now on the dell website it says it's been shipped. The estimated delivery date showing was the 10th of September, but now it's gone and it just says "shipped" in it's place.
On the phone the guy said that it'll come on the 21st. I know i will get an email the day before, but which date can i rely on?
I live in the UK. It doesn't say where my laptop is yet.
Status: Shipped
Estimated Delivery Date: Order Shipped
Then it says "Within 24-48 hours, a link to track your order through the carriers website will appear. Once appeared, please click on the link to track your order.
Please note: It may take up to 4 business days (while the package is in Transit) before the carrier shows detailed tracking information on their website."
And when I click on the link the tracking information is blank.
So when can i expect the laptop? Thanks again! -
Whoa.... they made your lappy pretty quickly to already have it shipped.
Most times it takes about 2-4 weeks for it to even be shipped, so just wait if it says shipped on the Dell website and keep an eye on it.
If anything give Dell a call after a week if you haven't received it. -
Thing is, I'm not sure since the guy on the phone with whom i ordered the laptop said don't listen to what it says online. And he said it will come on the 21st. How can he be correct if it says on the dell website itself that it's been shipped since yesterday? I guess I can call and inquire more but unsure as to if it will really come on the 10th. Or if I'll have to wait even longer.
-
That M17x is probably pre-built?
-
It could be that they had one pre-built with those specs but odds are that it has not actually shipped yet and that the website is incorrectly telling you that it has been sent. When it gets sent I would imagine you will get a tracking number with it to better determine when it will show up. Mine showed up about a week early from the estimated delivery date and took about 3 weeks from purchase to build and ship. Just hang in there, it is worth the wait.

After much research I pulled a trigger on an m17x with this configuration:
Intel i7-3720qm
16GB Ram
Nvidia 680m
1080p 60hz screen
2x256 6gps Sata (Raid 0)
Blu-ray drive
Centrino 6250 wireless
Estimated Delivery date is 9/21 and it's currently in the build state. Should get it right after Borderlands 2 comes out!
Thanks to Rev and Adam staying in touch with me on this. They have been extremely helpful! -
CptXabaras Overclocked, Overvolted, Liquid Cooled
It will arrive when it will arrive
I waited 2 weeks, then one morning it was on my door....so happy -
Now I got another email. It's estimate is next Thursday -20th. So excited.
It's still in pre-production though, and that stage will only change on a business day. Just trying to wait patiently and before this laptop's hard drive fails, or before i get permanent ear damage from the noise coming from the hard drive or fan.
Hope my Alienware experience is much better than my most recent XPS one -
I've forgotten, what carrier does Dell use in Canada?
-
Mine was shipped to Vancouver last Tuesday and should arrive this Tuesday. -
Hey guys, been watching this forum for a while now. Ordered 30/8, shipped 6/9, it made it as far as toronto (i live in nova scotia) and my tracking number which was working now just says to call them. Its too early just now but should I be worried? Anyone else have this happen? Its with purolator.

Should have my M17x 680M in 2 weeks
-
I swapped the Radeon Card to the Geforce one today, also took 12 GB RAM instead of previous 8GB, should have it in 2 weeks also xD

Hey guys i ordered my M17x on 08/30/12 and it was shipped out on 09/09/12 to Calgary but still says in U.S. vis U.S.A Linehaul Depot.
How long does the Linehaul depot usually take because when ive looked at previous posts for receiving orders to Canada most people say it only took 2 days to reach Calgary/Toronto for the purolator to pick it up. My EDD is this upcoming monday 09/17/12. -
-
Thanks ^^ i hope ur right since dell told me that the Linehaul shipping only takes 3-4 days. Im currently at 6 :/ maybe purolator was lazy and just didnt mark its arrival
well i can hope anyways haha

If you want to send me your tracking number and details at [email protected], I’ll gladly provide you with the transit time and ETA.

My desktop replacement computer for college unexpectedly died, so I decided to go with Dell. Ive heard great things about their CS and I was looking forward to a powerhouse gaming machine that I could use when I wasnt swamped with schoolwork.
When I originally spoke with a sales representative on 9/2/12, I was told that the computer that I wanted would have an estimated delivery date of 9/17/12. Although this was still going to be difficult due to my need for a school laptop, the sales representative informed me before I ever purchased the computer that she wouldnt be surprised if the laptop shipped only a few days later. She told me this several times, ensuring me that I would probably have this computer much sooner than I expected. I blame myself for believing sales tactics such as this, but I was in desperate need for a computer and I didnt want to purchase something that I didnt actually want from another company. I was naïve and went with it.
I diligently checked the website, but my estimated ship date didnt change and when I called to see what level of production my computer might be in, a representative told me that it was still in the early stages of production the day before it was supposed to ship.
I received an e-mail this morning, stating that my estimated delivery date had been delayed and that now my EDA is 9/24/12. Is it normal for representatives to dangle a carrot in front of a customers head, particularly a student who is in dire need of laptop, only to have an order delayed by a week? I am normally a patient person and I understand that these things take time, but so far Im pretty annoyed with the persuasion tactics initially used by the sales representative in combination with this delay on my order. -
holiday1, I'll be quite honest with you, I'm finishing up my Ph.D. at University, I spoke with a sales rep on 9/2/2012 before ordering online later that night, I've been a long time Dell customer and Alienware customer [before they were with Dell included] they are the only two I have ever purchased from...
Yes, recently it seems that most Alienware laptops having been having great turn around times, and seems like many are getting delivered before the first EDD if not by the first EDD given. I received "The E-Mail" 09/13/12, Thursday morning, 0357 HRS [EDT] (my first EDD) saying there was a delay. The delay E-Mail, like I was told, is a standard generated one most of them just give you an EDD on the same day of the week one week later than your first EDD (mine was 9/13 to 9/20 updates, yours 9/17 to 9/24 updated). While in all my years of many orders this is only the second time this has happened, the first time was fall of 2002 (ordered on the Labor Day weekend that year too), normally from people I know that have had this happen sometimes it takes until the new EDD and sometimes not, to get a better idea you would just have to ask your Rep to talk with you about the notes on the account and see where it is in the "In Production" stage. For instance my order as of 2200 HRS [EDT]-ish last night is in the "Ship Notification" stage, which is part of the final stages within the "In Production" stage.
I know how annoying it is to be without a laptop at University, but in my honest opinion I do not think anyone tricked you with "the persuasion tactics" et cetera... If you had done what I did, when I was ordering I spoke to no one on the phone and place the order online, and even when I was speaking with a Rep about the current state of part shortages on that day no one dangled a carrot in front of me.
I would not be surprised at all if you receive it this week...
In the end, I, like you, needed a laptop, and I knew this simple fact that I had two, reasonable, choices: 1). Invest in a laptop of high quality, buy Alienware, but have to wait and arrange to be on another computer within the house for University work, or 2). Go and buy an "off-the-shelf" model from Dell online or go and buy a computer literally off-the-shelf at a brick and mortar store.
You already know what I chose... I already know what you chose... I think I made the right decision, and I can assure you I think in the end you'll be happy with your decision too.
Best of luck with your University studies! -
Do you think It'll come tomorrow, it does say so on the online tracking, but if it's not even in the UK yet I have my doubts?
Currently 12:30pm in the UK -
Jet Planes travel pretty fast.
-
Haha I know that, but I'm trying to consider all the other things that are involved during the delivery process. Will be impressed if it get's here that fast since that means it took 11 days after ordering my laptop.
-
Not at all unusual. When I ordered my M17 back in Feb it made it to Jalalabad Airfield in Afghanistan (this was before the USPS got retarded about battery shipment) in about 17 days. When you consider it had to go to NYC and then out to Afghanistan via military postal service I'd say that's pretty quick.
-
That's normal. Dell's estimated delivery date was few days more then when it actually got here for me. I didn't even know when it was arriving until the day before.
-
Companies like UPS don't faff around. All their paperwork is either done ahead or during transit so all changes at each port are done seamlessly without any delay. I've seen changes as quick as 30 mins from one plane to another. Yours will almost definitely arrive on time.
-
Last Jan, I ordered a Nokia Lumia 800 from the UK, to be shipped to Seattle, Wa. My only shipping option was FedEx overnight. The next day, Fedex called me up and had me fax them customs papers, while the phone was still on the plane over the Atlantic.
To shorten the story. I placed my order at 7pm PST on a Monday evening and the first delivery attempt was made at 8:30am on Weds morning. So, yes, I think you really can receive it when it says it should arrive. -
Thank you!
It landed in Germany about 5 hours ago, and it's 7pm in the UK right now. Takes around 8h to drive, so pretty certain that it's coming tomorrow -
Ordered m17x 9/8 edd 9/21 now revised to 10/3
are there still problems with 680m supply or something?
-
9/20 at 1AM I get the email it's been delayed. I called in at school on a break and the guy told me that there was a delay in supply of one of the parts during production, yet mine was completed and is in the "testing phase" of production. If it's complete, there shouldn't have been a delay. The order status rep told me there were no delays on anything just 2 days prior. Frustrating indeed -
-
I would just prefer they keep me updated. They have told me nothing that I don't already know when I talk to them. Waiting until the EDD to let me know kinda sucked. My order status rep told me he'd let me know through each step of the process, and I never hear a thing from him. I started school yesterday and was hoping to have it yesterday like the original EDD said, and it would have been nice to know earlier is all. I just hope I get it soon. No computer really sucks right now.
-
Well they won't even admit to a stock issue to me but what else will cause a 12 day delay suddenly before EDD? Not cool, Dell...
-
I have called several times to inquire about my m17x's production stage. Only once has someone ever been forthcoming about what was actually going on and that was only to say that it was in "the early stages of production." Telephone representatives now refuse to explain anything more and refer me to one of the reps that will update me from time to time via e-mail. Although I have been nice and understanding each time that I talk to AW CS, they are very adamant that this particular rep is handling my case and talking to the factory or whatever... but when I call and have to be shuffled around several times, I don't think it's a big deal for them to tell me at which point of production my computer is stuck. Many people on this forum seem to get straight talk from some of the AW reps, but I guess sounding young doesn't help me much with these folks. My bad, should I get someone else to call for me? I guess forking over my credit card just wasn't enough to ensure quality service.
At this point, I actually did receive an e-mail from the helpful e-mail rep that has been assigned to me. He says that there are stock issues at the factory. I asked for a one day shipping upgrade and he said that he would try to fulfill the request, so I'm happy about that. Unfortunately, my new EDA is 10/1 and after waiting through two delays since my initial order on 9/2, I'm getting pretty annoyed and wishing that I had given a second thought to some of the other customizable, cheaper, and easily accessible gaming laptops that I could have chosen. I just don't know if this is worth the aggravation anymore, considering I need a laptop sometime in the near future.
How many more e-mails about delays will I receive before I finally get the thing?! Maybe it will arrive in time for Christmas! -
I hear you. One more delay without proper justification not only will they lose my order, i will not let anyone around me ever order from Dell or AW until hell freezes over. At least they admitted to stock issues (issues not issue wow) to you which they would not to me. One wonders how many parts are they missing and is it even legal to accept orders with unrealistic EDDs. At the least it sounds like bad business to set up customers for disappointment. You get only one chance at a first impression. Dell is losing face fast...
-
Dell called today, told me my m17x is built and will be shipped this Monday =P
Ordered on 9/13 -
-
More importantly, I wonder why a diverse group of users like NBR, and the clear deference you all receive from several on-line retailers, is not more effectively engaged by Dell Corporate for this kind of feedback.
On Order for "Desktop Replacement" (backup, ahem):
M17x R4 | 3720QM | 7970M 2GB | 6GB 1600MHz | 500GB | 17.3-in FHD 60Hz | DL BD Reader | Killer Wireless | In Production
Mobile Platform:
Asus G53SX | 2630QM | 560M 2GB | 16GB 1333MHz | Mushkin MKNSSDCR240GB-DX | Crucial M4-CT512M4SSD2 | 15.6-in FHD 60Hz | DL BD Reader | Intel Wireless-N 6230 -
Will be very curious how "silent" your new rig is compared to your Asus. -
10/8/2012 (Updated)
Going to give it a one time email exchange, with likely canned response.. followed by a phone call..
then we work the cancellation process.
AND...
Build a new system, right now (11:54AM Eastern USA).. and preliminary ship shows 10/3.
Now that is excellence in logic and customer service. -
