I placed my order on 1/13/12 and its giving me an estimated delivery date of 2/2/12

That is a 21 day turn around time...

If I placed the same exact order 1/26/12 it shows 2/7/12 delivery date

That is a 12 day turn around time....

So what gives, do you think there inventory were running low due to HD shortage when I ordered it and they restocked, or what are the reason, this is particularly interesting coming from a customers standpoint. I mean I know Dell is a huge company but are our Alien-ware's all assembled by hand like a typical desktop or what?

And whats the guess I will receive mine!!>?

I ordered mine on 1/10/12 with EDD of 1/31/12. I still haven't received mine, and the website still says "In Production".

If I go on their website now and order the same exact configuration, the website now tells you it will take 9 days for them to actually build the laptop, which for me should have been tuesday or yesterday depending on when the status on my order changed to "in production".

I'm hoping to receive mine today or tomorrow at the latest, but there is no way to be for sure since apparently dell's order status page is useless since I've read a lot of people receive their laptops when it still says in production. Also when I called for more information they just regurgitated my order details/status, so no luck there either.

They need to fix that because 2000-3000$ laptops need to be able to be tracked if there left anywhere, that's really inexcusable way to run a business......

I don't think that problem was exclusive to alienware products, I think it was all of dell's systems which doesn't make it any more excusable.

However at least it gives me a slight bit of hope that maybe today is the day I receive my laptop. =)

Congrats -- gives me a little hope that I might get mine sooner than the 9th. Was worried at first because the Wireless HD receiver was split into a separate order due 4/16, but Dell has told me that they will ship the laptop as soon as it's built. I am curious what the delay on the receiver is about, looks like if you add that option now it delays your whole order until April 19th.

Another odd thing is if I quote a system today spec'd the same as the one I ordered (minus the Wireless HD receiver) it has an EDD of 2/7/2012. I placed my order on 1/20 and received an EDD of 2/9. At least they gave me next business day shipping free.

I ordered on 1/10 and delievery date has always been feb 10th.

order was cancelled and new entered on 1/18 because of 500gb hd shortage, they upgraded me to 750gb and next day shipping and changed delivery date to feb 7th.

so it kind of pisses me off when someone who ordered on the 13th gets theirs already :)

So lucky, I still haven't received a tracking number and I guess your post means that I would have received a tracking number if I was going to receive my laptop before the weekend.

I wonder if the reason you got yours before mine is because of the 500gb hard drive I ordered that apparently was taken off shortly after I ordered.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the dell sales support said they would call when the order had shipped in the email they sent me earlier in the week. Last night my phone rang around 6pm and I was excited when I heard they were from Dell. Imagine my extreme disappointment when they told me they called me to tell me that my order was in production and they would email me when it ships.

Travis that's interesting you brought that up. I initially did the 500GB drive and then what happened is I shifted to the 750 hybrid I think, and then the 750gb standard so I believe you may be right about the HD delaying your order.

OK, I'm really anxious awaiting shipping of my new M17 XR3. I've been without a laptop for almost 2 months while settling a replacement claim. (Finally, that's over with) My EDD is now Feb 9, as opposed to a previous Feb 8, due to a paperwork change in payment method. They did add an expedite to the order as a consolation for the paperwork change. This supposedly will speed up the EDD.

I reality, have the EDD's been pretty much on track, or do they use these dates as a conservative time, and ship earlier. My last laptop (HP) shipped in less than half the time of the original EDD, but we are talking a different company here. My previous experiences in past years with Dell have always been ship dates a few days earlier than expected. Original order date was 1/27.

hey guys so i'm looking to buy an m17x r3 from the dell outlet and here's what i'm looking at:
    Processor Processor: Intel Core i7 2820QM 2.3GHz (3.4GHz w/Turbo Boost, 8MB Cache)
Operating System Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium
    Base Alienware M17x R3 Laptop
Hard Disk Drive 320 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
    Memory 4 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz (2 DIMMs)
Media Bay 8X DVD +/- RW Drive
Video 2 GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 6970M
System Color Soft Touch Stealth Black
    Laptop Screen 17.3 inch Wide FHD (1920 x 1080 60Hz) WLED Display
    Laptop Battery 9 Cell Battery
Network Interface Card Dell 1501 Wireless-N
Bluetooth Wireless Dell Wireless 375 Bluetooth Module

Its a certified refurb for $1274 (after coupon and tax). Do you guys think its worth it? Also, how much do you guys think i can sell the 2820qm on this forum for? because i don't need a processor that powerful, i'll probably downgrade to a 2670qm. Thanks

Seems good. I don't know if you will get enough from that processor to pay for a 2670QM, that is the last gen top end processor, so it is actually less powerful than the midgrade current gen processor. Honestly it very close to being equal with a 2670QM, so you might as well keep that one.

? The 2670qm is a current gen processor (sandy bridge) and the 2820qm is one of the fastest mobile processors out right now (fastest one besides the extreme editions).

    Have some links:
    Intel® Core? i7-2670QM Processor (6M Cache, 2.20 GHz)

    Intel® Core? i7-2820QM Processor (8M Cache, 2.30 GHz)

    Intel® Core? i7-2860QM Processor (8M Cache, 2.50 GHz)

    2670QM clocked at 2.2 turbo to 3.2
    2820QM clocked at 2.3 turbo to 3.4
    2860QM clocked at 2.5 turbo to 3.6

The 2860QM is the current top end, the 2820QM was the older model. They are both Sandy Bridge but the 2860QM is the newer faster model. The 2670QM is also a newer faster model of the lowest end chip (2620?), and as you can see it is very close in speed to the 2820QM.

that's what i meant. I want to sell the 2820qm that the alienware has, sell it, and get the 2670qm instead (inferior to the 2820qm) to save cash. that's why i was wondering how much the 2820qm was worth. thanks

Haha, my point was it is not significantly faster. The 2820QM sells for maybe $280-$320. The 2670QM sells for maybe $250-$300. By the time you take out the fees from selling you probably could not sell than 2820QM and buy a 2670QM. Plus if you swap CPUs the new one isn't covered under warranty. It just doesn't make sense. .1 Ghz is not enough faster to matter, just use the 2820QM.

You sure your not thinking of the 2860QM? Looking at specs the 2820QM is only marginally faster with a bit more cache.

On eBay they go for about the same price.

On the Futuremark hardware charts the 2820QM is only about 300 points higher than the 2670QM, suggesting that it really is the same speed in real-world terms.

Just checked this morning. 30 JAN 2012 and it has arrived! If this is an indication of travel time, yours should be there within a day or 2.

First time boot, no issues as of yet. Everything seems to be in order. When I get off this evening I will install the essentials, SWTOR, WoW, LoL and run some tests.

Going to be a long night of SWTOR tonight -.-'

I talked to Order Support staff today and he said that mine was in the final stages of production and should ship out within 24-48 hours BUT the EDD is still the 7th. I knew they wouldn't give me definite positive news, they just want to keep you happy. I won't get my hopes up :)

The EDD never changes, it is a calculation made when you order based on the current Dell lead time (which is 8 days right now) and the shipping method you chose. Normally they beat the lead time so I wouldn't be surprised if it ships somewhat early. All of my Dell orders in the past have shipped a few days early.

Did you actually order on 1/27?

Let us know when it actually ships, if it actually ships this week that would be pretty impressive. Alienwares often take several weeks to build and ship.

Original order placed on 1/26. Order was re-entered on 1/27 due to a change in payment method due to my use for business & state sales tax exempt status. (used business debit card as opposed to personal). EDD changed from 2/8 to 2/9 as a result. As of yesterday the Dell status site says there is no such order. Everything was OK as of yesterday AM. Looks like a phone call may be necessary.

Well. I finally did it. I came in here last year around this time asking questions and pondering a purchase. I ultimately chickened out and stayed with my G73JH which did in fact have to be RMAed again late last year for another repair. Today I pulled the trigger on an M17xR3.

    Intel i7 2670

    Intel Centrino wireless
    Blu-ray
    2 Year Advanced Warranty
    Extra 240W Power Supply

    EDD 2/13/2012

I got 15% off and then a $50 coupon. I called that in to a Dell EPP rep and got $150 off through a combination of him working the order and agreeing to pay with a Dell Finance option (I think a credit card?) All in all I got the whole thing for $2330 plus tax and he threw in upgraded shipping. I think that's an OK deal. I was hoping for more but I really didn't have the time or interest in fabricating a bunch of hooey to feed him to get more discount. I never feel right about that anyway.

I will order an SSD and 16GB of RAM when the order gets a firmed up shipping date. I don't want the parts sitting around burning up return policy time with no laptop to put them in. 16GB and a large enough SSD to keep my virtual machines on it should be one smoking fast system.

Now I guess it's time to hurry up and wait.

My M17x finally shipped and should be here tomorrow. Ordered 1/20/12, EDD 2/9/12, FedEx tracking says it will be here 2/2/12. :) WirelessHD receiver still EDD of 4/16/12.

I hope someone can help me here. My order has been in with Dell since yesterday a little before noon. It still says "Order Processing" today. Is this normal? It has an EDD but I worry about the order not being "processed" by now. I offered to just pay for it over the phone but the guy put in on one of those Dell credit cards to save me another fifty dollars. If that's going to put it in the corn field for an extra three days I would rather just pay for the thing now.

This is the part where I get all crazy waiting for my new laptop to get here. :(

It should be fine, I would maybe start to worry if it doesn't change to production tomorrow. Really though, they almost always hit the EDD or even beat it unless there is a parts shortage. If you are worried just call the sales line, ask for customer care, and get them to check and insure nothing is wrong.

The salesman called me back from Dell EPP today. My order was a little messed up. He hadn't completed the payment part correctly so he redid it. It's in production now! :)

My "Order Does Not Exist" was a result of a conflict of customer I.D. from an order placed 4 years ago. Apparently there were 2 accounts, and info had been changed with the new order. Dell Global reset everything. I am still on for a Feb 9 EDD :)

My laptop finally arrived yesterday, 7 days before it's EDD. Also received the WirelessHD receiver, so not sure if that component is really backordered or if they just hold it until the laptop goes out. So far so good, keeping my fingers crossed that I got a good one :)

Now I am second guessing my order in respect to the video card ;-7 since I will be using this as my sole computer since I sold Aurora ALX desktop.

The only game I currently play is WOW and will use it for some decal art in photoshop/Illustrator.

Thinking maybe I should have gone with the HD6990? Any opinions?

Ram upgrade and second drive(below) have been ordered and are in route

I would get the highest spec card possible, just so the computer lasts as long as possible. You might not need it today, but Blizzard could announce their new MMO with much higher requirements tomorrow, and then you would have a problem.

Is Dell fairly accurate with their estimated shipping dates?
I'm leaving for Europe soon and it might be a tight squeeze, maybe 2 weeks after the laptop's ETA.

Anyone have any excessive delays in their own experiences? Even small delays will probably be ok, as long as it comes out of the box working.

They normally beat the ETA, unless some disaster happens that shuts down production you should be perfectly fine.

So heres my situation. 2 months ago my house got robbed and they took my dear old m17x r1. Luckily my insurance covers about 1.6k. And i ordered a new m17x r3 on 1/24/12 with a estimated delivery date of 2/07/12, with next day delivery. Today is 2/06/12 and still in production.

Should i be worried? These dell guys are breaking my balls man....
