Mine's due in tomorrow before 3P.M. Apparently I got the "official" e-mail shipping notice today, that it was shipped yesterday. I guess the notice I got yesterday was Dell's "unofficial one". :D I dunno bout all that efficiency !!!!

Mine shipped today. Ordered 1/31/2012. Payment had to be redone on 2/2/2012... the order stayed in "processing" status for two days. Shipped 2/6/2012. I should have it tomorrow. My 512GB Crucial M4 and 16GB of Kingston 1600MHz RAM won't be here until Wednesday, though. I also bought some MX4 thermal compound and will do a repaste right away on both CPU and GPU.

Just remember when you're upgrading the ram to be careful when pulling out the keyboard. It's attached via two connectors on the left side. Also mind the plastic liner around the keyboard, if you put too much force on it it may bend and you'll get flex around your keyboard.

That is disturbing, they were using PM830 drives, mine has a PM830, why on earth would they switch back to slower drives?

Now I am worried my replacement system will have a PM810.

I have brought this issue up with the Dell rep, because even mine with an 830 shows an 810 as the replacement drive on the warranty. We will have to see what his response is, I guess it is possible they just substituted 830's during the HDD shortage or something, but for a while everyone was getting PM830 drives.

I am just pulling the two 2Gb sticks from the bottom and replacing them with Kingston HyperX 8 GB Kit (2x4GB Modules) 1600MHz DDR3.

I moved the Samsung PM810 -SATA II SSD to port 1 so first thing I will call and hammer Dell on the 810 to see if I make any headway, if not it's time to either request the return or start price shopping 256Gb SATA III SSD's

Well, after two weeks of haggling and dealing with pretty poor customer service, I placed an order for a mid-grade M17x......

Now I just have to hope it gets here to Jalalabad before I leave on the 27th of March. Order status shows "In Production" already so I hope that's a good sign.

Got this for $2036.83.......thinking I did okay on the price for what it's got in it.

You in the military? If so, did you know you could have ordered through the online aafes site and you would have saved about an extra $200? Perhaps you can cancel your order and place a new one through aafes.

I received mine on Tuesday 2/7.
Everything was FLAWLESS, and 2 days before my EDD.
Added my Kingston P & P 1600 Mhz ram yesterday. I want to add an SSD, but am hearing mixed responses on whether it will create issues with the warranty. I was suggested (by Dell) that any aftermarket add ons be purchased thru them, as those items would then also be covered. Any suggestions? I would rather get better components than what they have.
Anyway, I feel like a kid at Xmas right now !!!

Adding an SSD is fine, just be aware they won't support it, so if it dies or whatever it will be your problem to fix it. Not a big deal, if you didn't get it originally I would not pay their jacked up prices just to get a warranty which all retail SSDs have anyway.

I'm a DA Civilian so yeah, I could have used AAFES, but having dealt with them on other major purchases in the past, I didn't want to trust them with this. I did price one out through them, very similar to what I ended up ordering, and the savings was only in the neighborhood of $37 or so, in addition the delivery time was 8-10 weeks. As a general rule I try not to spend too much money at the Army Air Force Extortion Service since out here they jack up their prices on almost everything..........no profit my . They are screwing the soldiers out here.

Strange. I have almost the exact same setup as you and the price came out to $1881. I get an extra 10% off for using my Star Card for the first time (which really made me want to jump on the deal before it was too late). This is my first purchase through them, so I'll see how things go. It did take them a full day to process my order to Dell. Because of that, I fell into the 580M delay. Originally my ship date was the 22nd, now it's the 29th. Not a huge deal, but is still a bit of a downer. I do understand the shipping times overseas. I was contemplating on waiting until we moved to England next month, but shipping there would have taken up to 45-60 days.

I appreciate the service you are providing as a civilian in the military. Best wishes, and enjoy that "Beast" when it arrives.

I don't mind it being my "baby". My biggest problem is that I have a "TON" of software to re install & setup. It makes better sense to add the SSD now, rather than too much later, and possibly winding up doing much of it over again. I'm also pondering whether to get the 256 Gb, or go for the 512 Gb. I would be trading slots for the drives, and the SSD will become the boot drive. I also use two WD 1Tb external portables. Rig is used for business, entertainment & gaming.

    ^ I'm wondering the same.

I'm curious, if Dell shows they have a delay of 7 days, do they usually pull through on that? I'm waiting on the 580m and it still says on their page that it's on a 7 day delay. I placed my order on the 6th. I've chatted with customer care and all they say is that my laptop is in production and it will be delivered as scheduled. I just want to know if they have received the cards yet or not. Guess I may have to call them.

When I placed the order, there wasn't a delay. My order didn't process until the next day. I don't mind the wait, but I'll be moving to England next month and can't afford to have to send the laptop back if there is an issue with it. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope the QC guy was thorough.

Shipping for me two Iraq the three times I had Alienwares shipped, were about 4 weeks from order till I received it. Once it hits NY, it's all on the military arrangements. Thats where the military takes over the mail.

I ordered mine on the 6th with a 580M; no delay was listed then. The estimated delivery date for me was today but that got pushed out to the 24th. Hopefully it won't be any later than that.

    By the way, hello everyone!

I have the same problem. Here's my story:

I ordered my machine on the 5th, ETA was the 17th. I called dell late on the 16th to confirm that my laptop would ship that night and i would get it the next day (paid for next day shipping). The lady put me on hold and about 7 or 8 minutes later she told me the machine was being packaged and i would receive it the next day. I went to bed, and the next morning checked. Still didn't say shipped, no emails or anything. Took a shower and ate breakfast (about 6:30 EST on the 17th) and i got a email from dell saying the machine was delayed. I was ticked (how was it being packed, but then suddenly delayed?). I called dell and asked why it was delayed and the lady told me that the graphics card (580M) was on back order, the ETA for them from nvidia was march the 5th and i wouldn't receive my machine till mid march. I said ok, and asked to speak with a sales manager. I explained him my story and how i was lied to by someone (either the techs building the machine or the first lady i talked to) and how i think it is unacceptable they allow this (i would have been fine if they told me the 16th there was a delay) The gentleman offered me 200 dollars off the machine as a compensation, which i was fine with.

I have used dell pc's for a long time, never had a problem. Wish they had told me there was a delay, at least the day before it was supposed to be at my house...

Not saying im going to cancel my order, i still want my m17x r3, but im a little miffed its not getting here till mid march....

    My $0.02

    Also, hello everyone!

Well that's not encouraging and I too had talked to someone at Dell on the 15th and they assured me it was still due to arrive on the 17th. Yesterday morning I got the delayed email. So is your order status showing the 24th also?

So I guess the question is: is the 580M worth the wait (especially since I'm not worried about 3D)? I'm thinking about calling, cancelling and reordering it with a 6990M, unless they can just change the card on my order. It would probably arrive before the end of the month. From what I can tell performance-wise they look really close. I was up in the air and simply went with the 580M because everyone seemed pretty happy with nVidia's drivers.

    And welcome!

This is really upsetting me. I can't believe it would take an entire month to get some GPUs from nVidia. If my order won't be delivered by the 5th as stated, I may have to try and switch to the 6990m. Although I'm sure I'll be satisfied with the card, I just hate the thought of maybe having to fight with drivers.

if i were u , i wouldnt cancel my order.

Its because your choose your laptop with 580M cuz it suits you and cuz thats what u wanted. And since your paying so much for the laptop, you should get exactly what u planned to get, so that in the near future u dont regret your decisions.

Yes my order says the 24th, but 3 dell reps i spoke to told me it wont be here the 24th. I did speak to a customer service manager (Micheal, he called me the 17th around 6 ish EST) and he told me he couldn't give me a revised ETA. He did say his best estimate would be the 9th of march if he had to guess, but it could ship earlier. Ive used Nvidia and ati for years and ive never been pleased with ATI. Not that they are a bad, i just havent had any luck with the drivers. Plus i have the 3d option :p

The real issue for me is time. I am moving to England next month. I won't be living in this house for much longer. If the delay is going to set me back to the middle to end of March I will have cancel my order (or switch to the 6990m). The moving company will be here probably early March. I would hate to have to throw away the box the m17x came in. I may have to use it to return the laptop if I'm not satisfied. I'm calling Dell tomorrow and going to speak to a rep about it. So far everyone I've talked to assured it'll be delivered by the 5th, but reading what others have posted, just makes me think they don't really know.

I was thinking about doing this, but being in the mitary, I believe my order will still be placed and built in the US (I ordered through the AAFES website). I also got a discount for using my military star card. If I cancel my order, I'm not sure if I'll be able to get that discount again, which was the reason I was willing to purchase the laptop.

Because of the whole 580m delay, do you think this might be an opportunity for us waiting to haggle a few more $$ off?

I am not really happy with the price I have on my m17x especially with this wait. Maybe it is worth a try?

Change of address card to your family's place and have them forward it to you in England.......problem solved. Should've joined the Army instead of the Airforce, then you wouldn't have to go to England. :D

I don't have an address in England right now. I'll be living in TLF for the first couple of weeks. The Army? No thanks. I enjoy being with my family and not deploy for 12-18 months at a time. I can live with 4-8 month rotations. What's wrong with going to England? I get paid better living overseas, I get to travel Europe, and I'll have a better chance of getting orders to another country (like Italy or Japan). I have nothing against the Army, my dad was Army and I my look into the Warrant Officer Program, but I enjoy the life the Air Force has provided me thus far.

This would depend, did you place your order before the notice of the delay? If you weren't happy with the price, you should have called before placing your order and tried to haggle at that time. It won't hurt to call and try I guess, but I'm just not the type of person to try and take advantage of a situation I was already aware of. If the delay pushes my expected delivery date past what it was already pushed out to, then I will be placing a call of complaint. Not gonna try and demand something for free, but if they want take off a few $$$ or give me an extended warranty, I won't turn it down :)

Have you considered using a service? Renting a mailbox that you can send deliveries to like this one? Mailbox Rental | Parcel Delivery Services - Mail Boxes Etc. UK and Ireland

I've never used them but I think their service is for things like what you need.

The Army / Air Force thing was a joke, lighten up Francis. (And I am not positive but I think deployments are now 12 months or less for Joe)

I would assume that your unit will have a mail room so even if you don't have your own address you could get it sent to your unit mail room. Or just have your family hold on to it until you get an address.

When I went in to cancel my most recent order and make some changes, a lot of the discounts had gone away and it was going to end up being about $400 more expensive for some "free software" that I had forgot to click, so I'd definitely suggest not canceling and re-ordering.

I know it was joke, hence why I didn't take any offense to it. If you didn't take into account, I mentioned looking into the Warrant Officer Program, which is an Army program. My family can't hold on to it for me, they'll be flying with me. I'll give it until the 15th. If it is delayed past that, I'll just cancel and either reorder or wait towards the end of the year for the next gen. The prices haven't changed much on the AAFES site the past couple months. It might even drop down in price like it has in the past.

I have just been informed that my system has been shipped! After the delay for a week. I have placed my order on January 27th. They automatically gave me a one day shipping with free of charge. Yes, it has the 580M + 120Hz 3D screen.

Since I live in Kuwait, I have to wait until DHL/Aramex ship it to here. Based on that, I think they have re-stocked their 580M's.

YAY! So excited that I will finally sell my R1 after 4 years of heavy use.

That's awesome. I was told yesterday that it was still 03/05 before they would get any more 580M's but maybe small batches of them are starting to come in.

Ordered my M17x (i7 2760, Nvidia GTX 580M, 8gb, and the 3D screen) last week (on the 14th to be exact) my EDD is the March 7th, just left a message to my sales rep to 'check in'. Hope all is on schedule, well really I HOPE all is ahead of schedule but that is asking a bit much.

If I hear back on any delays from my rep will repost.
