I'm at 2XAA. Can you really see a difference at 8XAA-16XAA?

Not sure chiefs. However I just decided I would max out all the settings and see how it plays. So far not to bads even though a new Driver and some better game support new CAP profile would be nice.
So far my FPS is jumping around all over the shop. From low 20s when I'm nearly dead to over 80s. It just keeps on fluctuating up and down the whole time. No real constant fps.

I might try lowering the AA later on however it seems to be running fine as is atm on 16X AA. So not to shabby. :p ;)

Also in HWiNFO32 its showing both my GPUs are running at 99% and 98% utilisation.

    Cheers. :)

Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\players

    should see config.cfg and config_mp.cfg

then use notepad to open them and change seta r_multiGpu and
seta r_multithreaded_device in both of the cfg files. One is for online and the other offline play.

    Hey chiefs,

    I found mine under here.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty - Black Ops\players

Look out for the "players" folder it should be in there. Then just run a search Ctrl F for the 2 strings.

    Cheers. :)

I'm surprise by the number of issues you guys are running into. With 10.10 drivers and no mods the game has been running smooth for several hours now. I've been watching my nephew play and he's up to the Vietnam scenario and the game hasn't froze, crash, slowed down or anything.

The game is running max settings as well :)

Hey, i don't know why this happens to me but when i set Anti-Aliasing to 'off' my fps is shockingly bad, i'm talking 25-30 fps on average on most multiplayer maps with the other settings pretty high. When i turn it to 'x2' my fps doubles and smoothness resumes on multiplayer maps.

Mind you i also noticed there is no difference in fps for me when i use 'x16' AA and 'x2'.

Still, i get crap fps on my machine in single player with max settings, like 25-40 mostly. Which is stupid cause everyone else claims to get mad fps (60+) with their laptops. I swear i have a dud machine.

Black Ops has a memory leak.

News: PC Gamers suffer with Call of Duty: Black Ops - Strategy Informer

If you've picked up the PC version of Call of Duty: Black Ops you might be experiencing issues with performance, as many people are rushing onto the Internet to report on lag and stuttering during cutscenes, even on high-end systems.

It seems to be caused by a memory leak, with CPU usage nearing 100% even at relatively quiet areas of the game. Multiplayer modes aren't free from these issues either.

    Cheers. :)

    Thank you for this input!
I cranked everything up to the max and now i get 7x fps! This is really twice the amount of fps i had before on low settings.

I also noticed that the Gpus are not fully loaded (gpu-z says each gpu around 40-50% load!). There must be something wrong with 3d-detection or something.

EDIT: Relating to Reborn's link, it appears to be the memory leak causing multiple issues. Thanks mate

I haven't played this since last night. Is there any improvement?

Last night I was applying other fixes that sorta helped:

    1. Disabling In Game Steam - this is when you get little popup messages in steam if your buddies are online.. To disable you have to click Shift+tab while in the game go to Settings->In Game and click disable in game steam.
    2. Second also having to do with steam. CTRL+ALT+DELETE during the game.. Go to task manager, find STEAM.EXE in processes and set priority to LOW.
    3. Other people mentioned playing around with sound settings in the game has helped, but I haven't tested that personally.

CFX Scalling is really bad with this game. both GPUs run at full speed, but the utilisation is only about 50%, which explains why you guys are getting cool air coming out of your gpu air vents. game play is not smooth at max settings, it can spike from anything above 60fps to below 40fps. ati needs to release a new driver/ new CAP profile that supports COD Black OPs.

edit: Found a way to "trick" the gpu to have a higher load. i noticed that once i enabled AA, the FPS jumped by at least 30-40fps! the same scene, without AA with the rest maxed out, it's barely hitting 30fps, gpu load 50%. by just enabling AA to 2X, i get like 70+fps, again same scene! and the gpu load goes up to 65-70%. if i crank all the way up to 16X AA, framerate drop to about 60+fps, which isnt too bad at all, gpu load increase to 75+%...

edit: i can confirm the stuttering issue, like i've metioned earlier, the stutter/spike happens everytime when you transition from a quite scene to a complex scene. fps can jump from 90+ all the way down to 40+, which is what caused the stutter.

    Hence....

I can honestly say that this actually works. I made the adjustments that were mentioned earlier in this thread and didn't notice much improvement, but the adjustment you suggested made a MUCH MORE noticeable improvement. I set the AA to "2x" and VOILA! It's a hell of a lot better than it was. The only drawback to this is that the fan is BLAZING AWAY like it does in the majority of games I play. Before this adjustment, the fans were running I would say, at the medium speed. Not now though! I rather enjoyed the "peace and quiet" that the system gave me for a day, but the better frame rate more than makes up for it.

Anyway, thanks a bunch for the tip!!

    Hey Peeps,

A patch is in the works!

Twitter / Josh Olin: Hello World. We're here, w ...

Semper Cognatio Call of Duty: Black Ops

    http://translate.google.bs/translat...t-Treyarch-weiss-von-den-PC-Problemen-798635/

Many players tell of so-called stuttering in the single player and multiplayer mode. This happens when the CPU or GPU not the requested process can handle. Who stutter are no problems with Call of Duty: Black Ops has noticed, probably via a PC with features beyond the optimal system requirements. The players have already found out that Steam is not responsible for the stuttering moments. Rather, it was the game itself.

    Cheers. :)

no worries, glad it helped. with this solution, i can say gameplay is now "close" to smooth and very little noticable stuttering. gpu load is good, which is over 75% and cpu load is ok as well (not 100% like others have encountered). i guess this is the temporary solution until the patch arrives. cheers

Hello everyone. I've been lurking here since September learning to OC my original R1, and learning many other things for that matter, and would just like to thank everyone here who takes the time to explain things in lamens terms for noobs like me!
Anyways, ill leave out the problems I was having, the R1 was exchanged for my new R2 and things have been great so far! (if only I had found these forums prior to buying my first gaming rig....).
I wanted to jump in this dicussion having just purchased black ops yesturday. Im not getting the stuttering or problems with FPS, however, I noticed that while playing i am only getting heat out of one GPU fans, the other is cool air. Im really inexperienced when it come to diagnostics and have no clue how to find the strings mentioned in some of the above posts. Is anyone else having this issue?

Again, thanks again for all the help you folks offer!
