my old gateway did get one of my hairs under the lcd plate cover and for the life of me i couldnt get it out and the thing was a 1 inch strand very noticable. -
Hi everyone.. I'm new to the forum, but I'm really glad to have found this thread. I have to say, GREAT work from those of you who ripped apart your computers to test the RGB on the R1. I have an R1 and have been having some major problems with screens. I actually got Alienware to upgrade me to the RGB (after a ton of calls and a big run around). I finally got a good tech, and with the help of this forum & thread, I was able to provide him with the correct part # to order. I just need a little help. I'm not a tech and I don't get involved with the technical side of things. Obviously a Dell tech will be doing the work (I know, I know..Not recommended), and I'm sure they don't know how to install an RGB on an R1 (and ACTUALLY get it to work). So, what EXACTLY do I need to tell him (in laymans terms) to get this RGB to work on my R1. ANY help would be appreciated.. Thanks.

Fitted the RGB to his R1 when he got his replacment for a test.Worked 100% same connectors bla bla.Onlything u must do is remove bios battery for 30 secs or so then put back in after fitting RGB to R1 reboot .Works -

Hmmm, wonder if I can get dell to be as kind to me....

Quick question.. Dell has shipped my RGB out, and I'm supposed to be getting the complete assembly (web-cam, screen, aluminum backing etc). I just checked Fed-ex and the shipping weight of this supposed "enitre assembly" is 4lbs. To me, this seems kinda light for a complete assembly incuding shipping material.. I'm thinking Dell screwed up and is shipping just the display.. What do you guys think????
-
Isn't the notebook 12 lb's, subtract the lcd assembly and you get 6 lbs. Sounds about right.
-
Not according to my math. If the LCD assembly were 6lbs, then you would be left with a 6lbs notebook, which would make more sense to me. The 4LB assembly subtracted from 12 would leave you an 8lb notebook, not 6lbs. 8lbs seems a bit heavy for a notebook without the display assembly, but I hope I'm wrong.
-
oops i fail at math, didn't get much sleep last night. I doubt you should worry though.

that weight sounds reasonable, this is a heavy laptop lol
-
Don't know why you are even worried about what the weight says anyway.
I have my second M17x shipped to me and the weight on fedex said 1lb -
1lb lol.. I'm just skeptical of Alienware's/Dell's ability to put in a proper order. Last time I was promised the upgraded RGB screen, the tech was sent a WXGA 1400 x 900 screeen without the full assembly. Promised an upgrade, was sent a downgrade. Today I've confirmed the proper order, my concern is that it isn't going to come assembled wtih backing and web-cam. 4lbs sounded a bit light to me, that's all. Thanks for the reassurance.

Can someone tell me where and/or post a picture of where the CMOS battery is located??
Is this it???

Thanks alot....

Update: I had a Dell technician come today to put on my upgraded RGB screen.. The "Assembly" did NOT come with a web cam, which is one of the components that was malfunctioning, but back to my problem... So the tech comes in and tells me that he has never worked on an Alienware before (worried already). He gets on the phone with Dell for "instruction".. Long story short, he destroyed my computer with pry marks trying to get it open and left it disassembled on my kitchen table because he couldn"t finish the work. Turns out he was not certified to work on Alienware.. Called Alienware and they agreed to give me a replacement system, but they won't upgrade me to an R2, yet they agreed to give me the upgraded RGB LED on the R1, which seems strange. I didn't figure Alienware to build a Brand New Hybrid R1... Some how I feel like I'm not getting what I'm entitled to..
P.S. I'm still within the 21 day return policy -
Wow I would just return and re-order for the r2 IMO.. That blows.. I have seen this many times. That is why I DO NOT allow them to touch my system.. I can disassemble mine in a matter of minutes and get to anything I need to...
Sorry for the bad luck.. All I know is I would be p*ssed and dell would not be getting off that easy. -

Is the M6400 RGB LED the only compatible screen that can be used in the M17X obviously besides Alienware's?

We do not know. Someone tried but said it did not work, it is quite possible they did not reset the CMOS though.
