Nice, glad it worked. Guess our doubts have been quashed. The price of getting one will be quite high though.
-
ya i called dell again today and they will not budge! i even called tech support and they said they cannot upgrade me ;(
-
To get the RGB doesn't seem realistic right now but will probably be possible down the road in a few months from now. -
That's how it looked in the process...

Very nice. The gap between the R1 and R2 is smaller, at least in theory. Now to get those LED's fellas. Best of luck.
+Rep Aikimox for confirming. -
Thanks for your feedback m8!
-
The cost and benefits outweighs. The reasons to keep the r1 and upgrade then just to sell
-
^ I agree with Moo!
-
Aikimox, +1. Thanks for being willing to tear apart a few laptops for this. Greatly appreciate the good news for R1 owners.

well getting the screen will still be a huge pita
but it is doable now -
Nice job Aikimox - thanks for sharing your findings...

Is the inverter the same on the inside of the monitor?
I know when i had my screen replaced before, it only came with the screen and not the inverter.. Would the ccfl inverter work work on the rgb led? Didnt know if it physically hooks up to the screen differently...
If not, is that included in that 1k price or would that be extra? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I am glad to see it works....but I just cannot accept that these screens are $1k.....that is a completely BS price......
-
Do you guys know how the connector of the old M17 looks like?
-
Also there might be a chance to get the RGB from Dell if you can formulate the request correctly and be persistent. -
Yea, it was just a thought. I would hate to be the one that shelled out that much money for the screen and couldnt power it due to missing/wrong inverter lol...
-
So is this rgbled or lcd?

Yes that is the RGB LED screen. That seller gets his hands on a lot of dell parts and sells them slightly higher than dells price.
-
-
Probably, including the installation.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Dell does not charge for installation....and we already know that dell quoted that part lower than $1500. Of course he is going to make it look like a deal to whoever is buying it from him
-
That's definitely an overkill. It should be 400-500$ tops. But seeing CCFLs there for 700$... Scook, you can probably buy an RGB and sell yours with 200$ difference to none (if lucky)
-
But could you get one from dell and just have a unixus technician come over and put in their for you, since its all the same connectors, but you have to have the 4870 for it to work right?
-
I want to see Scook create the first hybrid M17x-R1. Well technically akimox did it but it wasn't a permanent change.
-
Yeah so do I, it would be awesome, also it would be cool to see a integrated ati graphics card also.
-
Today another tech came to replace my secondary 4870 and practically asked to watch me do it. He said he didn't have a chance to work with M17X yet.
Those guys are nice but not trained with AW systems. So beware.
The RGB will work in R1 regardless of the GPU type. The only thing is as Wb said - unplugging the BIOS battery for a few sec should do the trick. -
Well i am not that great with working long extensive part removing, i always get the screws mixed up lol. No the Unisys guy wasn't bad at all he knew what he was doing, he was working on my dell precision m6400 with the replacing the lcd back cover and the bezel and well it didn't go so well but it wasn't his fault, the battery and the power connector out of course, and well the lcd wouldn't turn on due to the the new lcd back cover had some other type of connectors i know weird... Well it got fried, computer is just fine, just no rgb led right, i said to myself my paper! NO!! Its fine just, i just have to use an external monitor but i will just use the M17x now until tomorrow or so, see why its good to have more than one machine, stupid consumers lol

If I can find one in the $500 range that is legit and works I will probably get it. But not for $1k
And I would need to hold onto the old screen for warranty. That is not as easy to get as a Q9000 at short notice lol -
Well Scook i hope to see what happens when you eventually buy one cause i also would like to try it, the CCFL is pretty bad at times but man nice colors.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I want to, but it will most likely not happen. Just is not important enough to justify that large of a cost. But we know it can be done now
-
Yes that's awesome but so far due to a limited ssd, and the so so screen quality I have again been on my precision well i was using it last night and i beat bad company 2. Be cool you could do it for me lol.

and whats makes you guys believe that there is difference on 17 inch screen? led rocks on large flat screens.
anyway do we know the model type of the LED screen or if it will be found for sale on ebay or somewhere else? -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
-
lol i was looking at that like 20 mins ago. buy a 32 Led for that price.
-
How can I be sure I even got an RGB LED Screen from dell? They could have put a non RGB screen on my m17x-72 and i wouldnt even know.

The RGB LED is : K1NFP170CT
-
How do I check that "Aikimox"? Where do i look for that number at? Just want to make sure I really have a RGB Screen.

If your screen is fine, don't even bother with the RGB LED. -
