edit: but it seems that out of this, the m15x got a few upgrades too correct? they finally got the 940xm CPU's, atleast, i do not remember seeing that before..? -
However, advertising is not necessarily in the form of placing banner on the street or put it in magazine. and m17x has been up for how long? 3 years? not really sure, but its been up for quite a while.
and very true that "most people wont buy what they don't know about," thats why people these days usually go on youtube or google to research and see what's the thing look like etc before they buy it. In doing the research they will find out that m17x does exist. How come? by simply typing "alienware" in youtube search button, you can see m17x is listed on there as a suggestion. In addition, type "alienware" on google, you will see m17x just a few scrolling down.
Also, consumers who are trying to buy the m17x, will try to compare prices on different location. They will type alienware m17x on newegg, amazon, ebay, etc. -
I wish I could see how people come to buy an Alienware. I always wanted one because I'm a gamer and knew about them by word of mouth.
But if not for this forum, I would never have known about an R3. -
yap, but even though without this forum you will find out about r3 eventually. Perhaps once in a while you try to open the alienware website, and you'll be curious to know why in the world that alienware pulled down the m17x; or when you open the site sometime in the future, you will be curious too why the m17x displayed on the website look different and have different specs than yours..
anyway, i think this is OT..I take all the heat because I started the debate -
I've always had my eye on an Alienware since they started - by typing "Gaming Computer" in google, but never bought one because of the price. Now that the prices are reasonable/competitive, I've now decided to buy one. I had a bad experience with the Clevo W860CU an I don't think i will ever buy an ASUS laptop, not to mention i hate chiclet keyboards
But as soon as the R3 comes back up, i'll be placing an order. -
Can anyone confirm that whenever the R3 becomes available, so will the option for the 6970M?
-
I don't believe anyone can confirm this, no. Many many folks (myself included) are hoping it to be the case though.
-
If Alienware doesn't get their stuff together in the next 2 days I'm just going to go with someone else (origin or sager, going to get desktop CPU in my lappy).. Best way to speak to a company is with your wallet
-
A question I may have overlocked, is the R3 a single hard drive unit?
-
@3Demon, don't worry the R2 is an awesome rig. -
Oh, damn, should I cancel my Malibal satori order for this?
-
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
That Satori has the 1st gen i7 CPU, or no?
-
It has SB. It depends, Csmith. Do the features like bk keyboard, make you want to switch? I almost went with a clevo as well, but the features like battery life made me want this instead.

R3 isnt out yet.
I guess we have to wait yet another day.
-
When is this thing coming out??!?!
-
-
I'd assume its the R3 if its listed and isn't in another system. -
Clevos have it, X3NIA. Way before Alienware. People already have the 485 in their hands, actually.
-
I like the 485M, i do, Dual 460Ms? Holy frickin jumpin horse s%&#.
HOWEVER, its too expensive for me. SO I am hoping the new R3 has the 6970M "Blackcomb" GPU, which, if I understand correct, will be a LOT cheaper, without much loss in performance. -
It will be a lot cheaper, PDWOW. However, with the Nvidia gpu, one will be able to order the better screen as well. :/
-
I Had To Look Twice T Belive The 485m Is There! I Just Really Hope The Card Supports 3d!

is just matter of time for the R3 to re apear on the order pages because everyday something different happens to the website first the R2 was not configurable any more next it disapears completly and now we can see the GPU's available for purchase with the R3 or maybe just maybe M18X

they dont want to offer the 120Hz screen with AMD because of the built in emiter is Nvidia so that will be a waste i am 100% sure the AMD 6970 supports 120Hz but is just the way Dell want to handle this -
They wouldn't ever release a laptop at this time of night, would they?
-
FrozenWaltDisney Notebook Consultant
no, this was most likely a slip up on the web side of things... but who knows.. their webpages have a lot of errors

everything is possible with Dell most of the times they do at noon but you never know

on the other side the Nvidia set up don't have battery life because the intel IGP is disabled but you get 3D capabilities and 120Hz
AMD GPU: Battery life and switchable Graphics
Nvidia GPU: poor Battery life ,3D, no switchable graphics, 120Hz screen -
Having a hard time deciding. Might just get the 6970. But I want the 120Hz screen with it lol. Don't really care about 3D, but do want that nice battery life. -
(And I have 20/160 vision anyway, so it looks nice to me haha) -
I have a giant HDTV I wouldn't mind queueing up a movie or hulu show on from bed
3D is.. ehh... 120hz I might go for, though (non 3d) as its way smoother for FPS. Had an alienware aw2310 with my desktop until I went HDTV. -

You can't have it all
-
I've had too much trouble with Nvidia cards in all my laptops to go with them. 6790M all the way.
-
ATIAMD experience was awful while Nvidia was flawless; I'll be getting 485 if they offer it but I can't really complain about the 6970 if they offer that as "the best"
I'll take either.. Just hurry up dell! -

It's funny to me that the Alienware website is running crippled right now. They're probably selling the living hell out the M11x though...
-
cannot wait for this thing to come out. I got a 4 year scholarship to my college, so I can splurge on my laptop of choice
as of right now though, m17x is completely removed from the menu. -
I've read a few times in here the 6970m is switchable? Is that true? Also I've read in here that the 460m is not switchable, when what I've also read says it's switchable as long as you pick the non-3d panel, (which is really a gimmick in my eyes, but to each their own)
M17x R3 looks like a winner in my book compared to the competition provided that 6970m is switchable, that would give me the battery life for class + the performance for elsewhere. -
6870 is switchable
6970 is switchable
460 is switchable with 60Hz screen, but offers much less battery life than AMD's solution (~90+ mins)
460 is NOT switchable with 120Hz screen -
Guys take this tech specs with a grain of salt. Remember the 485M was mentioned on the page of the R3 and it never came out. It could be a typo. It would not be the first one.
