This. Just asking, but does anybody know if the M15x will be updated in a similar fashion? If the m17x starts at a bare 1400, can we expect the new M15x to start at under 1000, considering its at 1200 now?
-
Up to 5.5 hours with light usage according to a user here and the laptopmag review. That's on high performance + alienfx on, etc
To get similar battery life I need to turn wireless off and alienfx off -

I believe thats something we will have to wait on... but I believe the sandy bridge is whats making it a tad cheaper. When released early this year, I believe the m17x started at 1599 not 1400... -
M15x would be nicer than an m17x, that's for sure, it would most likely have a 6950 I would think, and 5.5 hours is decent, I wish they could put a larger battery in there though
.

1499 USD
1599 CAD
1599 GBP (I think?) -
Is that on the ati gpu or the switched intel IGP? Thats pretty damn good if thats on the ati gpu, we should expect 6-7 hours on the intel IGP.
-
Remember guys there is no 485M in the R3. It's a typo. Don't get too excited for nothing.
-
I would think the 6970m is more than enough to be excited about
-
all of the R3 hype is fun and all, but the real question here is why did they pull the R2? If they jsut wanted to add a few options. why pull the system from the site?
-
Yes I agree with you but I see all these posts with people thinking they will be able to order the 485M. I don't believe it for many reasons one being that no one including journalist ever mentioned that card being available for the R3. They are most likely reserving it for the M18X.
I am just warning people to not get over excited or as usual we will get hate post about Dell on this forum if it does not show up. -

Honestly guys, Alienware just does really stupid and unexplainable things on their website from time to time. There is no explanation for it whatsoever, and people get way too excited about it. Everything will return to normal here in a bit, and folks who insist on owning an R2 can find them here in the NBR marketplace, or the Dell Outlet.

Quoted for truth! I put it up originally to give some hope it may be possible, since there is no other system that would possibly be using it... That being said, it might not be for the m17x, but a future system config. Either way, I am not gonna be disappointed with the R3 unless the kitchen sink doesn't come with! (j/k) -
You guys are getting way too excited about this, just don't want everyone to be super disappointed after getting their expectations up...
Theres several problems with the link....
1) Its to the Dell OUTLET site
2) It appears (pictures, reviews etc.) to be the old m17x R2 page.
3) No reliable source has mentioned the 485m in the R3, no site has received a test unit for it, it is not in the R3 manual.
4) If you actually read through the whole tech specs area, it lists a bunch of GPUs and almost every laptop CPU currently available in all laptops. Further discrediting its validness.
Not trying to be a buzzkill, crazier things have happened but reign in your expectations of the 485m or m18x suddenly being released.
However, as far as the 6970m goes it should be available soon. It was available to order in many places (besides the US and CAN) before the whole intel fiasco hit, so the R3 was pulled before they were shipped or became available in the US. It is also in the R3s manual as a supported / available GPU.
Hopefully Dell gets their act together with the website and gets the R3 back up soon, but the later in the week it gets the less likely they are to launch / relaunch a new product. -
Hi, this is my first post on this forum. Anyways, it seems like this website allows you to mix and match parts and "preorder," if that is the right word, an R3 laptop. It also gives you a general idea about how much an R3 will cost.

I'll be honest, I don't see the appeal of the 485m in any way shape or form, the 6970m is nearly the same performance for much less $$$, can someone explain to me the mass appeal of the 485m besides 'nvidia'? (Never had a problem with AMD/ATI Drivers).
-
Well R3 with 485M can be had with a 3D vision upgrade- which if I'm not mistaken, is the only option for 3D on these laptops.
-
Apparently neither did apple. They even switched to the new line of ATI gpus.
-
Are Switchable graphics (the 'power express' graphics) for AMD specialized? AKA have to go through dell for drivers? Or can we update straight from AMD?
-
You should be able to get the ones from AMD. But I've heard (and this was for other computers such as the ENVY14), that you had to dl the Intel(switchable graphics) drivers through HP.

Agreed if the cost is really that much lower -
6970m costs exactly the same as a 460m (Dell will most likely charge $50 for it though).
Edit: Did an Admin just decide to start spring cleaning or something? thread just got like 2 pages shorter. -
AMD + Sandy Bridge.....auto switching a la optimus, which I why I said "light use". If you're not taxing IGP to the point of needing to switch to discreet, battery stays happy.
Someone here reported that the 6870 requires manual switching.
Review of r3 w/ 6970 and new macbook pros all (claim to) have automatic switching, just like optimus...but somehow better. Go read the laptopmag review. I don't have a link, because I just ask Google for that soft of thing (he knows a lot).
...Of course, auto-switching is unconfirmed rumor - in my opinion - until someone gets an r3 with 6970 and confirm/denies
yes I just referred to google as a person -
Yes, one of the other mods responded to a report of off topic posting and other issues within the thread.
Given the 17xR3 is still not available for order, we're going to close this thread.
