lol...you know it I almost forgot about my escalated case until I saw the email confirming it has been shipped. I'll probably do a REAL(unbiased) review since I'll have them side by side and won't have to justify my R3 purchase.

It's funny that these manufacturers can have unresolved issues(sleep brightness issue) with hardware/software and move on to other hardware and think it's all good.

 

I couldnt agree more - I just hope that for us R2 owners, things arent left "unfixed" just because Dell have decided to move on to pastures new. You probably are aware that alot of us are running a Dell test bios to rectify the brightness issue....I was the first adopter of this test bios and yet we are STILL waiting on an official fix for this to be released by Dell in form of a A** bios update.

(Sorry for OT rant!)

 

Oh...I know....that was one of the main points of my complaint. It's unacceptable for our R2's to still have the sleep brightness issue this far into the life of our units. I also tried the test bios and had wifi disconnects...so to me that is hardly a fix. I spoke to a supervisor who spoke to a tech from the lab who is aware of this problem and said it is caused by the AW OSD program & AW Command Center. When asked if or when a official fix will be released the response was "At this time we have no information"....lol.
To me, that means they don't intend on fixing it because they have a cheaper alternative

Ok..well I want one of those too.

There's more going on here than I'm posting. Since Dell is finally making things right I'll reward them by just posting the minimum.

I can't wait for Fedex today!!

UPDATE: Got my R3 today. While installing SP1 my unit BSOD. Now it's rolling back.

Build quality is above average, but not as good as R2. Neither is the screen quality(The difference is very noticable in both resolution and color gaumut). Blu-ray/HD playback is more enoyable on R3 than R2 because there's not as much black border around 2:35 aspect ratio. CPU feels snappier and I'm liking the new speaker grills(probably because I own it this time around). Can't wait to use HDMI IN, 6300 is way better than my Dell half mini wifi card, After everythings up to date, I'll put it through the paces.

UPDATE 2:
6970 is NOT as powerful as 5870CF in the following games: Crysis/Warhead, CoD:MW2, BF:BC2, SC2 & Dirt 2. Crysis 2 & Bulletstorm run alot better on the R3. Most likely due to non-existent multi-gpu support. The battery life is amazing compared to R2. My R2 is defenitely staying home. I would be willing to elaborate more in a PM if needed.

What is the proper way of installing 11.4CCC on my new R3?

seriously... R2 red is true red, but R3 red is pink...

and dont tell me its a photography issue. The R2 looks red there LOL...

So is it the "sheen" of the rubber finish that makes it look more "washed out" in pictures, hence pinkish. Or is it really that salmon color that the pictures indicate?

Man, you got just as many BSODs that I did, and the same BSOD while updating windows as well...

And also, why would you ever buy that many Dell products? They're totally banking on you. Maybe I'm biased, cuz so far customer service and my customer satisfaction is at a LOW.

 

service may be abysmal, but warranty is king.
They can treat me like dirt for as long as they provide such ridiculously great warranties.

 

Well, as long as you pay for the warranty, I assume they're supposed to by law give you the service that's guaranteed by the warranty. Aside from that, I don't think their customer service has been of much help to me

 

To be honest 95% of customer service from any company sucks, There are always good ones like Amazon for example but those are rarity

What matter those days are the warranty and return policy not the Customer service sadly.

I agree. Amazon has the best customer service/return policy I have seen. As a matter a fact I don't even know what Amazon's policy is.....whatever it is, it's awesome!!

 

It was free so I'm not going to complain. After I got everything up and running after all my installs and updates this evening it BSOD again!!! When I looked through the event viewer there are sooooo many errors like 211,213 sideshow, unexpected shutdown etc......

I like the R3 ,but at this point I feel like I can't depend on it. I thought about calling Dell but they'd only send over the same idiot. If this continues after I update to 11.4CCC I'm going to request an M18x.

No problem. My Fiance and Fam is my EVERYTHING. Each year I go through(upgrade) 2 computers. At this point no one wants to hear about my PC issues...lol because they think I'll move on to another one soon. I use this forum to rant, share & learn.

Oh...My bad. My desk is made of glass and my mobile desk is made of glossy hard plastic.

I really love the Nebula RED on you guy's R1/2's. It kind of reminds me of a cross between a Red Bentley Continental GT & a Red Ferrari F430.

For my setup the R1/2's Nebula Red would be a little off, but not by much because I usually leave the screen open.

For everything else the R1/2's Nebula Red wins the award for best looking system. Imagine busting out one of those bad boys in Red at Starbucks in Barnes & Noble......priceless.........

Even though we live in a world of portability there's something "Magical" about a laptop that can smoke the PS3, 360 & Wii combined in Red

I have a remote for a HP laptop (HP dv9000). and I will be happy, I will be soooo happy xD if somebody says that it is compatible for M17x R3 with the XPS (or another) driver.

out of curiosity.. obviously, the R2 is bigger... and you can plainly see that the monitor is smaller on the R3, but is the actual screen smaller, or is is just the shell and trim making it look smaller?

 

I cleared my desk so that I can have more room to work and I'm trying to approach more zen like atmosphere so gone are the H2O desktop I had as my brother has taken it from my possession but this is what remains so far .

Ballin'. Horray for my azn brother who's married/dating a white woman. It's not that I've never seen any asian dude with a white woman before, but mad props to you, cuz she looks tall lolz. (And also she's pretty, unlike alot of other asian/caucasian couples I've seen).

 

Everything in life is perception, above all else I'm only blessed on really 2 things.

1) I'm able to be me at all times and those around me have always accepted me as I come forth 100% (As cheesy or Corney as this sounds this makes my life so much easier to manage and enjoy as I can truly create and be myself instead of a perceived image something I've seen many of my few Asian friends struggle with)

2) Friends and Family have constantly taken care of my well-being in all areas and aspects of life time over and time over again without them I would be nothing as I would be Lost, literally.

Cuz I have a question about Crysis. I just installed and played a bit of it with VERY HIGH settings, 1080p, and 8x watever it's called (AA or something). The game ran fine, and seemed a bit delayed when I was shooting (a delay between clicking left click and the making the "bang" sound). But for the most part it was fine. If I clicked on the Optimized settings button, it puts it on HIGH everything. Meh, I don't agree lolz. My question though, is: What is the game supposed to look like at max settings? I'm looking at the game, and the only thing I notice that's really fancy looking is the trees/shrubs/grass and water "splashes: when you shoot the water with your gun. Other than that, the cinematics look meh (similar quality to BFBC2). I thought this game was supposed to look real or something?

 

Are you talking about Crysis 1? I have all the Crysis games but prefer Warhead because it seems to be more optimized. I know that all of the Crysis games run fantastic with no lag. I also don't use AA at 1200P res because it already looks amazing!!! In Crysis 1 and Warhead the cinematics look decent by todays standards. They are no Final Fantasy 13 or MGS4...lol. Even though the gameplay looks awesome, it does not look real, IMO. If you are lagging I'd recommend an SSD. With the specs you have that would be the only thing holding you back. When I had a 7200RPM HDD I would get little hiccups by the beach where the trees are in warhead. After getting 2 SSD's installed my gameplay is flawless and smooth as silk!!
