indeed yours looks true red :) thanks to your pics Im probably buying a red AW :)

btw nice setup, I purchased a HP zr24w LCD and still not sure how to organize my desktop space and so. Is it comfortable to work with the monitor not in a perpendicular position?

    Thanks!

Yeah, I find my setup is quite comfortable to use...I have limited space as you can see but it all seems to work together very well. I can adjust the screen up and down and tilt/swivel it too....the monitor itself goes up and down by about 100mm so its comfortable to view, for me anyhow.
The two monitors (Dell and HP are pretty similar in looks and performance....I havent had mine long, I use it mainly in the landscape position but should I want to rotate the screen, because mine is in a corner, I have to pull it out and turn it to portrait and put it back.
Although its a nice feature, its probably a feature that I wont use a great deal, I must admit.

Please, can you send me a link to the Ebay page where you buy that multimedia Dell remote?

Can somebody tell me if it will work on a M17x R3?

If youre in the UK, just type in "Dell remote" and hit search....same goes for Ebay US I guess...

Here is the UK one..... Dell Express Card Remote Control NU851 + Battery. | eBay UK or one of them....theres loads on Ebay.

The US one can be seen here: NEW Dell IR Travel Remote Control NU853, NU851, MR425 | eBay UK

Cant say 100% if they are R3 comaptable but I would imagine so as its just a case of getting the right driver which I linked to a few posts back....

    Sweet!
I use it for all my anime. Last nite I watched Insidious on it. Sometimes I use it for our sectional. Even though I have a 55" 240hz 3D LED Sammy I usually prefer my 1920 x 1200 RGB LED :D....but for downloaded videos not in HD I'd prefer the 1440 x 900 screen.

Heh, looks quite good next to the r3.

I think I might have to pick one up soon.. Controlling all of my music and movies wirelessly is appealing.

Want to see if you can get the remote working with Winamp? If you can I'm sold :)

Thanks I love it. I miss having a remote that stores itself in the PCMCIA slot.
I have a R2. I can get it to work with W764 OS, WMP, WMC, MPC but not winamp for some reason. The only time I use winamp is for the AlienFX plugin.

Glad the driver I linked to worked...I went through a fair few in order to get it working correctly...wish dell would address that issue with the M17x ITE driver, it doesnt work!

Only been using it for 24 hours but this is probably the best computer I've ever purchased, and that's saying something because I've had quite a few computers including 3 Alienwares. I am obsessed about quality like you wouldn't believe, although some of the materials are of questionable quality, they feel and look great. I was worried about the media button bar being messed up, as well as the keyboard flexing. I am happy to report I am experiencing no issues thus far, and the rubber coating looks to be free of any peeling. The laptop was surprisingly lighter than i thought it would be, i just love that it's so slim for a 17" desktop replacement. I have to give kudos to Alienware on their cooling setup for the laptop, the thing is whisper quiet for the most part, and in gaming sessions it's quieter than M11x and M15x. I am just happy I only paid for $1,350 for it, really can't beat that.

I don't think I can say Thank You enough!! I Love being able to control this beast from afar...I really like the "Power Off" button for when I'm feeling lazy...lol. The track forward, track back, volume up & volume down buttons are very useful. What's really amazing is the IR receiver's field of view!! It must use the LCD to help receive the signal.

Besides the color perfectly complimenting the black in our M17x's, the fit into the pcmcia slot is a dream. Unlike most Dells, our M17x's don't have a eject button to help remove what's inserted into the pcmcia slot. The very small amount of the remote that protrudes the slot is perfect aesthetically and for functionality.

What a match made in Heaven :D Thanks again.

Wow that looks slick. So you can control your movies and such with this remote? Sorry this is my first laptop so I'm a noob. I was planning on playing anime/movies/etc from my laptop on my 57" TV and this sounds extremely useful.

    I just +1 rep'd you.
My co-worker with a R3 just ordered a remote after installing the drivers and trying it out....lol. We anime/movie fans get lazy and require a remote. My Logitech Harmony 1100 remote can control my M17x as long as I tell it that my M17x is a Vostro. But it lacks the cool/portable factor that the Dell NU853 remote offers.

Let me see if I can find 'em....

Here you go Dookie....these are the drivers I used to get my remote working....

Dell Driver for Dell Express Card Remote Controls ITE/CIR - From a XPS from Recollection

The ITE/CIR driver listed for my R2 on Dell did not wanna work....tried a few without success and then found this one. Works a charm for me and I think Skygunner has it up and running on his R3 too so hopefully will work for you too fella.
