Did you install a synaptics driver for it ? is it enabled in the device manager ? i havent messed with Windows 7 yet so i dont have any real answers for you but those would be some basic things i would try.
-
-
Second, do you have an external mouse or pointing device plugged in? If so, try to go into the Synaptics Pointing Device Propertises, Device Settings and uncheck Disable Internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is installed. -
Hi guys i have installed windows 7 and all the drivers but i don't why but in the device manager i have a driver who is missing and it's named a "unknow device"
I have try to install the latest Nforce driver, sound driver .....but no way it's always here :/ -
Each time I installed windows 7 (about 5 times already :/ ) the unknown device was the ITECIR Infrared receiver, you have to install it manually.
Another info which could help is that each time I installed this driver, the device was recognized as an input device, disabling the touchpad even without an external mouse plugged in. -
-
But why do you have installed Win 7 5 times ? -
Can someone tell me why i have some dpc latency on my M17x with win7 installed and not on win vista sp2...???
Look my screen :
Thanks, i have try to disable one by one all the device in the device manager but no way....
Any idea ? -
-
Thanks for your screen Quadzilla, anyone has a screens of his M17x on win7 ?
-
I don't on Windows 7, but mine looks the same as yours on Windows Vista SP1. You said you tried Vista SP2, so I may update and see if that reduces mine. It's quite annoying when I try to listen to music and it breaks up every so often.
-
What is your bios NDJason2009?
-
A01. It didn't change a thing though, the latency results are the exact same as they were with A00. Also I installed Vista SP2 and that didn't change anything either for me.
-
Ok we need more feedback of m17x owner to see if the DPC latency is just on our M17x or all the M17x, maybe it's the time to create a new thread for this problem of dpc latency :/
-
I have the same problem but I didn't try on vista.
I tried to disable all hardware and stop all windows services but it didn't change anything -
Try disabling some of your HID device in the Device manager and see if that has any effect . i know you said you tried disabling hardware but may have not tried those yet .

Hey Guys -
I just wanted to let you guys know that I have gotten a email from dell regarding the windows 7 upgrade...GREAT NEWS BY THE WAY!
VERY GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE
Thank you for contacting Dell Online Customer Care.
I understand from your e-mail that you are unable to register the system online for windows 7 upgrade.
"I apologize for any inconvenience this matter has caused you.
I have checked your records and see that your order eligible for the Windows 7 Upgrade. Since you were not able to register your system online, I have forwarded the request to update the database. Please visit the website again after 24-48 hours to register your system and this time your request will go through."

Thanks for the suggestion though -
Same problem of us maybe it's the time to contact Alienware and ask why we have dpc latency. Maybe Alienware-Armando can come here and take a look of our problems ?
-
Maybe a bios will fix that ?
-
i wish someone with no dcp problems will post here.

I've installed Windows 7, got rid of the coprocessor issue, but I still have an "Unknown Device" in my Hardware Manager.
I'm sure it's the IR Receiver, but I can't get it to install correctly. If I run the program, it seems to work, but the "Unknown Device" stays. If I manually install the driver, it says that the driver was found, but is not for my platform.
I've tried the CD and the one on Dell's site, and no joy. By the way, I'm running the release version of Windows 7 Ultimate (MSDN).
Any ideas?
Oh, and my video flashes for a couple seconds when Windows is starting, after I get the login prompt. I'm sure it's the hybrid video switching around, but it's pretty annoying. Does everyone's M17x do that? If not, any ideas how to get it to stop?
EDIT: Go figure... I ran Windows Update and it downloaded the correct IR Receiver driver. Problem resolved. Woot! -
s for that black screen flashing it is actually the Discrete video cards enabling SLI, the only way i know to stop it is to either turn off discrete graphics in the BIOS or SLI in windows (im assuming neither is something you plan to do.)

my m1730 had dual sli 8800's and it never, ever did such a thing.
is anyone having wireless issues with windows 7 and the broadcom 802.11n adapter? -
-
Hey folks, so I threw Windows 7 on the beast successfully, only have one issue so far that seems to be cropping up- when Command Center is installed I only have FX and Touch, but no Fusion or Sense. Anyone else have this issue and/or know how to fix it? THanks.
-
Fusion and Sense do not currently work on Win7 at all so you will have to wait for Alienware to officially release an update.
-
Ah- thanks Quad. Good to know that I'm not just forgetting to install something.
-
Only thing that i ran into with Win7 on the M17x that bugged me was the lack of a keyboard light option but i soon got that sorted out . The lack of sense and fusion didnt bother me at all because i never use them
.

Windows 7 has been running fantastic on mine
Big thanks to quad and z for the help!! -
Okay, here's a new issue I have with Win7 and the M17x:
When I close the lid and reopen it, all of my icons get moved. This is due to the fact that at some point, the resolution is obviously changing to something smaller than the 1920x1200 resolution that's set. Now, I should point out that it does RETURN to 1920x1200 when I open the lid... but the damage, as they say, is done... because icons or open windows on the bottom or right of the screen have already been shifted.
I'm using the release version of Win7 x64 (Not RC or RTM), and the 186.82 nVidia drivers (the ones that everyone here seems to agree are best for the M17x).
Also, shifting to stealth mode doesn't cause this. It ONLY happens when I close the lid and reopen it. However, it only happens if I close the lid while using the discrete graphics controllers (not if I'm on the 9400m).
Oh, and before someone jumps on it, both battery and plugged-in settings for close lid actions are set to "Do Nothing".
Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions?
EDIT: I keep finding my own solutions... hehe. This problem was completely resolved by upgrading to the 186.91 drivers. I hadn't tried these because some people noted a decrease in performance. However, they appear to be working fine for me, and fixed my resolution issue. I can deal with a few points off on a benchmark I'll never run if it means my screen won't shuffle around everytime I close the lid! -
I have problems with icons moving around for me, as I use multiple monitors and switch between them.
Found this utility that saves your icon's positions.

Check it out, pretty handy.
64 bit version works great in Win7. -
well i lock my icons into place and I turn off desktop icons. Done like having them there.
I notice when i open my lid from sleep i can see the back ground about the size of640x480 and it scales up to the set desktop size. Its really fast but I can see that. So this may be causing your moving of icons.
It seems like it scales down when going to sleep and then scales back up.. why it does this, i have no clue... -
i have problem whit wifi , the device is present and installed fine
but not search the wifi line ???
this problem only win7
help me! -
Quadzilla:"Only thing that i ran into with Win7 on the M17x that bugged me was the lack of a keyboard light option but i soon got that sorted out"
I've been trying for weeks, so spill the beans.......please... -
Go to "theme" and do "new".
That's it. -
It was that simple, like me. thx.
Windows 7 never looked better. -
Hey guys,
TWO minor issues I've encountered with my M17x so far with Windows7
(1) OSD issue: on two occasions OSD (the touch strip) did not light up nor function after windows start up. I tried killing the process (yes the process is running) and restarting OSD but no luck getting them to work until next boot.
I'm using OSD V2.19
(2) Sound issue: sometimes when I run games there is no sound. So I close the game and went back to desktop to check what happened. Upon clicking the sound icon the volume bar pops up but mouse turns to busy and the Windows sound manager crashes ><. Adjusting sound with OSD doesnt work either, nor does Fn+F3 mute/unmute the speakers.
I'm using sound driver v6.10.0.6217
UPDATE: OSD and FN+F3 works as long as you don't bring up the volume bar by clicking the sound icon.......but still no sound in game.
Anyone have similar issues or suggestions for a solution? -
re: the OSD issue, try updating to version 2.21.
-
Thanks BatBoy! Believe it or not I've been downloading all my drivers from your blog.
I've just tried the new OSD and rebooted PC, tested some games. Everything seems to be working nicely, upon pressing FN keys finally some on-screen graphic response pops up. I'll have to reboot the laptop a few more times before I can fully confirm that this solution is working though. But thanks again. -
no worries. glad its working. with each update they are squashing more and more bugs. crossing my fingers they stay on top of the updates for both OSD and Command Center.
-
I have 2 320 gig 7200 rpm hard-drives in raid0 and after a fresh install of windows 7 and after updating and updating the drivers for everything I ran the windows experience index. I scored a 5.9 on the hard drive transfer rate (which is by far the lowest of all the scores).
I was just curious what everyone else's score was on their hard drive.
Thanks! -

help...
i have problem whit wireless card broadcom ...i need wifi signal random -
what is the best gaming performance graphic driver on win 7?
-
I am having sound/Audio stutter while playing music. Its very annoying.....
Its actually occur more ever since i installed windows 7. I dont remember this occuring offten enough to notice it when i had vista on my M17X.
Im using Windows 7 with the latest audio drivers. -
Check BatBoy's blog - I think there's a few services and startup programs to disable relating to Alien Command Center which will help reduce/eliminate the stuttering.

Alien Command Center A03 was just released.
