Ok, just got home after being gone for a couple days, i read through all these posts. I see noone has been able to identify what the Coprocessor is yet![]()
I also see that noone has had any luck using Win7 yet, well ive been able to run a 3DMark06 and 3DMark Vantage without issue. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4985726&postcount=80
If anyone is still having issues i can give Driver's used/how i installed.

kq, lots of people having trouble still. please write a how to.
-
-
Yes so far it's working. FN+F7 is also working.
-
Windows7 just finished downloading. Still debating on whether or not to install it. Is it worth it?
-
Have you tried it yet? People are saying it's worth it if you have SSD. I'm still OK running Vista but if benchmarks were my priority I would go with Win 7.
-
@kqmaverick: do you have an unidentified hardware component in Device Manager called coprocessor?
-
Yeah man, I've got the SSD. So it should work alright? I'm running the single 260, so I'm guessing drivers are working out for that too?
-
Yea posted about it on first page, one of the 2 reasons i started this thread.
-
The coprocessor is the SMU.
Go to nvidia's website, download the latest chipset drivers. Install those and let us know what happens. -
does anyone know why my device manager is not showing my 280s )only my 9400) after a fresh vista64 install and driver updates? I installed all the drivers off Dell's webiste and AW dvd, but my computer is not recognizng my 280s.
-
nevermind. Hybrid somejow got turned off in bios
-
Hey thanks i just forced the driver that came on the resource CD to install, no issues with it. I looked on nvidia website first for drivers but didnt see them.
-
No problem!
-
Anybody on this?
-
Hey guys I finally got my m17x this morning and now I am ready for windows 7 unless you guys all disagree on doing the install for every day apps and gaming? Also, any special tips that I need prior to installing win7? Thanks in advance.
-
I am running Windows 7 with no issues. Only thing you may want to read before installing are my instructions on getting the SLI working.
-
great, I will check them out, thanks
-
Did you guys save all the alienware wallpapers, docs, and avatars? Before I start my win7 install I want to make sure I keep everything that is alienware but for some reason I cant find the avatars in vista home premium. Anyone know by any chance?
-
with a fresh install you need to re download them
-
where do you download the alienware avatars?
-
alienware.com
-
good one mr. moo
anyone know exactly where the alienware avatars are in vista premium? just want to back them up before moving to win7. Thanks. -
i just want to confirm -
i get my laptop in about 24 hours. have all the issues with windows 7 RC been resolved for this machine? is it worth it to go win7 (i have a Q9000) or should i just stick with vista until there is some more support for this machine? -
Tallcoolone
pm me with your email and I'll send you the wallpapers. I can't find the avatars though so if someone wants to point us in the right direction - thanks... -
sleey0 thanks for the offer, I have the wallpapers and the alienware pc info, just been searching for awhile for the avatars through google and browsing a bit. Since this is my first very expensive laptop I just want to make sure I have everything that came with it.
okay I ended up finding them, after a few hours of searching...LOL
for anyone that is interested...
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\Default Pictures
pretty cool avatars for alienware theme. -
Hi,
For all those still confused about the coprocessor, it's actually the nforce chipset that fails to install. Executing doesn't really seem to accomplish much. You have to open your device manager and point the coprocessor to the chipset driver for it to install.
Good Luck,
Gabe -
Are there raid drivers needed before installing win7 for dual hard drives?
-
are you raiding your HD's?
-
yes, i just found 2x300gb seagate drives unopened in a drawer...lol
-
nice .... you proably need the driver then
I am shoting you a PM -
Thanks, after checking that thread I went back to the bios and noticed a hard drive section with raid option under description. I must be tired...lol But I have not seen a raid driver from that thread that you posted from sager.

Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
latest driver for win7 v 190.15 and modified inf
http://redirectingat.com/?id=525X832&url=http://laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/win7x64/190.15
someone would like to try and make benchs with this too -
The 186.18 drivers are actually dated newer then 190.15, and the 186.18 are WHQL while the 190.15 are not.
-
so what would be the pros of upgrading to Windows 7. Would it help with overclocking, or should i just stay with vista since i have 8 gig ram?
-
I am running Win7 on my desktop which is a quad core w/ 8gb ram and using my m17x w/ 4gb. Win7 is a lot faster overall performance (boot, shutdown, file tranfers) also from my system I am seeing Win7 using less memory after boot up about 10 to 15% less from vista ultimate and I am happy to see that my hard drive is finally able to stop running after a few minutes after boot up which annoyed me in Vista. I really think every pc enthusiast will be upgrading and just the casual users will just stay on vista. I have not seen any options on Win7 or Vista for additional performance once your cpu have been oc'ed.
-
yea i install the latest build of win7 so far, and wow its really good! if I overclock a lot vista bsod instantly, but win7 can handle the configurations great
-
Good to know... I am really enjoying Win7. I pre-ordered 3 licenses since they were 50% off last week.
-
Did you receive a coupon for Windows 7 ? or you need to ask Dell to get one ? got my box this week and there wasn't any in it.

I installed Windows 7 on my laptop and everything is running good. No problems except i also have the coprocessor problem. Other than that its running fast
Heres a video of my laptop running windows 7: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHnIOp8GpNo&feature=channel -
I installed Windows 7 RC and have had no problems except having to install the driver for the Coprocessor manually.
Everything is running nice and smooth. -
how did you install it manually i cant seem to get it to work
EDIT: Never mind i got it now. -
I tried and I did not get it, can you please tell me. I must be the newbie... -
I have pretty much the same setup as you except for the hard drives. I installed windows 7 and I had issues with video. I installed the drivers from dell's website and they said windows 7 when installing and everything looked good. I tried FEAR2 and it was jittery and the same thing happened when I tried a Blu-ray. I saw that you had a video of FEAR2 being played on you tube and was wondering if that was being played in windows 7 and also if you have had the same video issues.
-
Ive used Windows 7 since the day i recieved my m17x and have no video issues while gaming.
-
That was actually me playing it on Vista, but it runs exactly the same on Windows 7 as it does vista for me.
Check and see if your hybrid graphics card is working. If you dont have the logo on your taskbar that enables you to boost performance and power saver mode, try uninstalling your graphics drivers, restarting and then reinstall the drivers and see if it works then. Sounds to me that your not using the Gtx 260m but your Geforce 9400 -
I just ordered my M17x, estimated delivery is 8/25.
I have a TechNetPlus subscription, and now microsoft has announced that Win7 RTM will be available on 8/6 to TechNetPlus members, so the first thing I'm gonna do is install Win7! Woo hoo!
Akash -
Download the Chipset driver from the dell website. right click the file and choose extract(use a program like winrar) and extract it to its own folder. Then go to the device manager and right click coprocessor and choose update driver. Select browse for the driver and select the folder that you extracted all the files to and click next. That should work.

i installed windows 7 and everything works good except the touchpad, its not working at all, has anyone else had this problem? how do you fix it?
