Ok, just got home after being gone for a couple days, i read through all these posts. I see noone has been able to identify what the Coprocessor is yet :(

I also see that noone has had any luck using Win7 yet, well ive been able to run a 3DMark06 and 3DMark Vantage without issue. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4985726&postcount=80

If anyone is still having issues i can give Driver's used/how i installed.

Windows7 just finished downloading. Still debating on whether or not to install it. Is it worth it?

Have you tried it yet? People are saying it's worth it if you have SSD. I'm still OK running Vista but if benchmarks were my priority I would go with Win 7.

@kqmaverick: do you have an unidentified hardware component in Device Manager called coprocessor?

Yeah man, I've got the SSD. So it should work alright? I'm running the single 260, so I'm guessing drivers are working out for that too?

    The coprocessor is the SMU.

Go to nvidia's website, download the latest chipset drivers. Install those and let us know what happens.

Did you guys save all the alienware wallpapers, docs, and avatars? Before I start my win7 install I want to make sure I keep everything that is alienware but for some reason I cant find the avatars in vista home premium. Anyone know by any chance?

i just want to confirm -

i get my laptop in about 24 hours. have all the issues with windows 7 RC been resolved for this machine? is it worth it to go win7 (i have a Q9000) or should i just stick with vista until there is some more support for this machine?

sleey0 thanks for the offer, I have the wallpapers and the alienware pc info, just been searching for awhile for the avatars through google and browsing a bit. Since this is my first very expensive laptop I just want to make sure I have everything that came with it.

okay I ended up finding them, after a few hours of searching...LOL

    Hi,
For all those still confused about the coprocessor, it's actually the nforce chipset that fails to install. Executing doesn't really seem to accomplish much. You have to open your device manager and point the coprocessor to the chipset driver for it to install.

    Good Luck,
    Gabe

so what would be the pros of upgrading to Windows 7. Would it help with overclocking, or should i just stay with vista since i have 8 gig ram?

I am running Win7 on my desktop which is a quad core w/ 8gb ram and using my m17x w/ 4gb. Win7 is a lot faster overall performance (boot, shutdown, file tranfers) also from my system I am seeing Win7 using less memory after boot up about 10 to 15% less from vista ultimate and I am happy to see that my hard drive is finally able to stop running after a few minutes after boot up which annoyed me in Vista. I really think every pc enthusiast will be upgrading and just the casual users will just stay on vista. I have not seen any options on Win7 or Vista for additional performance once your cpu have been oc'ed.

I have pretty much the same setup as you except for the hard drives. I installed windows 7 and I had issues with video. I installed the drivers from dell's website and they said windows 7 when installing and everything looked good. I tried FEAR2 and it was jittery and the same thing happened when I tried a Blu-ray. I saw that you had a video of FEAR2 being played on you tube and was wondering if that was being played in windows 7 and also if you have had the same video issues.

That was actually me playing it on Vista, but it runs exactly the same on Windows 7 as it does vista for me.
Check and see if your hybrid graphics card is working. If you dont have the logo on your taskbar that enables you to boost performance and power saver mode, try uninstalling your graphics drivers, restarting and then reinstall the drivers and see if it works then. Sounds to me that your not using the Gtx 260m but your Geforce 9400

Download the Chipset driver from the dell website. right click the file and choose extract(use a program like winrar) and extract it to its own folder. Then go to the device manager and right click coprocessor and choose update driver. Select browse for the driver and select the folder that you extracted all the files to and click next. That should work.
