believe me didn't fit the m17x connector is way different than the regular 30 pin connector here you can see the pictures http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5279578#post5279578

hmm let me make some calls on monday. and you are sure you tried to see if it would fit not just by looking at it correct? ive seen a lot of different looking plugs that did in fact end up fitting one is even the 12.1" clevo i have. the connector looked physically different but it did fit. now im not at all saying you are wrong i just think it would be so ridiculous and stupid of dell to do that.. and samsung as well

*clap* I wholeheartedly agree with what you just said. It is sad I have to settle for a 4670 (ordered xps 16) but I get a stellar RGB LED lcd. What I REALLY wanted is an M17x notebook along with an excellent screen where there is no if and or buts about the quality of the screen.

Please do.. I don't know what I'm gonna do with the TL-A2 I ordered. I had planned on doing the same thing witcher had done. I plan on keeping the TL-A2 either way though because it such a good screen, I hope (will be receiving it next week).

I love the WUXGA panel on mine.

I thought I'd hate it and was planning on doing a TLA2 swap, but I don't think it needs it.

Is it the best panel ever? Nope. But it is pretty good, IMO.

I am just glad I am easily satisfied.....yes there is backlight bleed but I am used to that on LCD's by now and have had 0 disappointments with my screen (maybe I am lucky? - I would not know the difference)

He said he tried to actually connect it and not just eyeballed it and said nope :). It is stupid of dell i agree.

@Sleey0 the panel it self is actually very nice if it were not for the dimming. On an all white background or webpages like NBR its a beauty. Just when you start doing things on dark backgrounds made me nuts. i think it does not bother alot of people because 95% of the time there browsing NBR on there UBEr gaming machine lol.

My panel has very little if any light bleed at all so thats not the issue either .

Yeah, the dimming is only a tad annoying, IMO.

I guess I am not as picky as some :)

So it's not grainy and has an even illumination on a white background?

So you didn't notice the uneven illumination or graininess? Mine had both those problem. Hell I could live with the auto dimming if it didn't have those two issues.

I really have to ask what the AW/XPS team who designed this were thinking. Ok great the shell looks great, has great performance yet they didn't give a crap about the screen at all. They should have just thrown in an RGB LED screen or even a GOOD dual lamp like the one in that was in the G2P and it would have been perfect.

Have you ever thought that it isn't Dell or AW's fault?

They could have contacted Samsung and asked for a great panel, dual lamp, really bright, etc, blablabla.

    And Samsung screwed the pooch??

We cannot forget Flextronics in all this as well - as they do the actual engineering and manufacturing of the laptop, Dell just follows along and offers their input and preferences

Actually, I'd have to say that the system is designed and specced by Dell/AW.

They just hand off the specs to Flex for manufacturing.

They don't send them a reference model before mass producing them? If i was in charge I would take one look at the screen and laugh at them and say "seriously you want to put that P**** of S*** in the best notebook in the world?".

Someone thought it was good enough :)

Seriously, I don't have any complaints. I had an RGB screen in the 1640 I returned and it was good. Colors were more vibrant but it wasn't brighter, that's for sure.

Eh.. mine wasn't bright at all, from eyeballing it I'd say it was in the 200nits region. Plus it had dark spots and graininess.. overall terrible display and couldn't tell it was a dual lamp from looking at it.

Open up a pure white back ground and that thing is bright . Even brighter then my TL A2 . So it is close to 400 nits , just not all the the time . If every game i played were based around the arctic region i would be all set :D.

All i want is the 4850s for my M17 and i will be a happy camper. The performance difference in games between the cards will be pretty much 0 compared to the M17x and i have a screen i love :).

The M17x build wise pretty much crushes the M17 but i still very much like my M17 regardless.

Quad I didn't even know M17 was just the ATI version, I previously thought it was just an older model, which it is until they do an ATI refresh I guess. If zfactor brings us some bad news on Monday then I was thinking about ordering an M17, 4gig ram off newegg, q9200 from shirley (how low will she go?) with 4850 in crossfire with the TL-A2 screen I ordered the other day (hope they sent the right one) and I would be super happy. Oh and is the dvd drive slot loading, also should I order HDDs online or is the price for 2x500g configured fair from AW?

I commented in the other thread what i think . no the Dvd drive is not slot loading and its located in the front of the machine vs the side like most laptops have . i had though about rigging a slot loading in mine but i dont think its worth the effort for how often i use the optical drive.

It sounds like the both of you are talking about two entirely different screens. Perhaps it AW's quality control that the issue here? Anyway when it comes to designs and selection, AW is suppose to have complete autonomy.

Found this pic in a post earlier in this thread.. the cable assembly itself says LVDS on it so I don't know why it didn't work for witcher. Witcher was the plug too wide or not wide enough?

I have a 1440x900 and I want to change it, but I have my reservations when considering my warranty will be void. Seeing as one of my GPUs died recently, I don't want to risk it.

However I came across two stores selling a 1920x1200 screen for $168.99 and $175.00.

Those are for the Area 51 m17x the old one so those wont fit your machine. Dell/Alienware this round opted for a new panel that only works in there machine so you will have to do like Witcher and find someone selling the whole assembly .

Hey guys I have an m17x with a bad 1440x900 LCD. The bottom 1"-1.5" has some bad light leakage. Normally I really wouldn't care so much, but when watching movies and/or playing games that portion has most of the color wahsed out.

If I call Dell and ask them to replace with a wuxga do you think I will get hassled?

I would pay for it. Not asking for it for free. At the time of order, the guy who ordered it did not have the option of picking the WUXGA screen, and he didn't exactly have the time to wait around. I believe the sales rep said he could upgrade later when WUXGA were in stock and just pay the difference.
