Please let us know if you get some options unlocked in BIOS or whatnot...I have seen the 2920's on ebay for $888![]()
-
lets start a betting thread 485m work or not, all the neh sayers will be none 3D 6970 fans, speaking of which, I'd be very pissed off choosing a none 3D 120hz ATI machine if the 485m works (apart from the cost of course) but that 460m can be sold on.
-
I should be able to get a good $300 or so for my 460M I'm thinking...So I should recoup it assuming this does work, which I believe it will.
-
we shall soon find out, very keenly watching this as I'm sure many are, it's actually ground breaking stuff as far as the R3 goes, it will change the whole landscape and cause a few returns I'd imagine lol
-
I noticed the CUDA cores on 485M versus 460M went from 192 to 384...That's insane and should provide a HUGE performance increase! Especially in 3D mode.
-
It is essentially an underclocked 560m, but is based on the old GF104 architecture, so maybe not...
Definitely sweeps the 460 desktop, and the 470m
Really looking forward to getting this working in the r3 -

can the 485 be run in sli or is that not supported by 3d ?
-
Not supported in the R3 at all.
Its Teusday.Waiting for your update.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Yea.... the new R3, doesn't support SLI at all... its a completely different maching than the R1-R2, there is only one GPU port.... which really doesn't make much sense, why change something so much, when it works so well?

Alienware laptops are supposed to be a different kind of best, G73 is a more fiscal choice, Dell refuses to lower their price point enough to really compete with it, people by alienware GAMING laptop for the GPU power to play any game. It's a step back gaming wise IMO
-
The r3 competes with the g73 quite well price wise...
Anyways, the alleged m18x will supposedly be the dual gpu monster sucessor to the r2. Still, would have been nice to see a dual gpu m17x r3, would have put the r3 on top as most powerful 17in again. -
No news on shipping yet FYI...Not sure if they even sent it out yet =(
-
TBH, I'm happy enough with a single GPU in a laptop, it makes things a lot less complicated, also consider that mobile GPU's are getting incresingly more powerfull, the best R2 Sli/CF combination is equalled by both the 6970 and 485m, add faster bus - cpu - ram - HD interface - USB 3 - etc etc and you have quite a package in the R3, the only thing that concerns me is the BSOD's people are experiencing, Dell/AW need to nail this down ASAP albeit just seems to be driver issues for now
-
Geo - when are you getting your R3 in so we can get a report on the OC ability of that 2920xm
Also, run CPU-Z and see if the proc shows (ES) it seems almost all procs being sold are (ES) series which are engineering samples. -
not for 3 weeks or so
not bought from ebay so I assume it's a full production model, will check to make sure. -
Keep us posted LVNeptune. A ton of guys are literally fawning over the possibility of a 485m in our r3s. Myself included
-
will buy the card as soon as its tested on the r3
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
haha everyone on this thread donate 5 dollars to me, and I'll make it happen
lol. until then I unfortunately have to wait for verification that its a success before I can drop the coin for it.
-
-
I buy it too with an other one, I should receive next week.
Hope it will working or ⓕⓜⓛ xD
Also, Do I need to uninstall nvidia driver before upgrading? -
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
no, it reports in the bios as the OEM/normal.... for all intensive purposes it is exactly the same, the only way to know is on the chip itself
-
ok will check that when I get my hands on it, I assume cpuz just reports it still as ES
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
It may. my Qx9300 ES didn't report as an ES though

You can check with CPU-Z. -

Any updates LVNeptune?
Btw guys, I talked to tayer, and he got his system, but there was a problem with it, so he has to go and reorder again -
It's coming tomorrow...Woot.
Scheduled Delivery:

Sweet action. Let us know how it goes!
Fingers crossed for ya -
Thanks, I am REALLY surprised noone else has attempted this, especially resellers, this is a money-maker here if it does work. The irony is the reseller I ended up ordering from says they take returns unless the item is otherwise specified as not taking returns. This they take returns on
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Who's the reseller?
-
It's RJTech
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
I'm assuming the price is the 750, so I should be able to pick it up once its confirmed as working, fingers crossed for you neptune!!!!
-
Yes $750, I posted a few pages back the total cost w/ shipping.
-

Where did you order? That's the *FIRST* I've ever seen it say compatible with "some" Alienware, ANYWHERE. I guess *TECHNICALLY* this could work with the M15x as well since they ship with the 460M, it might be coded in the BIOS. I love pioneering technology
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
I ordered on the 20th, well I exchanged on the 20th lol, they are replacing my current R1 with a new R3. I'm going the 3D 460m route, hoping to switch it out for the 485m
-
I doubt the 485m would work with the m15x. The m15x's heatsink and cooling are not adequate to deal with the extra heat. A 5870 was possible, since it wasn't a big jump from the 5850, but those still ran hot. And a 5850 is rated at ~50w i believe? The 485m utilizes the full 100w capacity according to reviews, it would probably melt the heatsink. Jk
-
But something annoy me :/ Did i need to uninstal nvidia driver before upgrading to gtx485m? Because Dell lock the driver and I was thinking if NVIDIA Mobility Modder will work :?
-
I think there was a post somewhere about the heat from the 460M and 485M but I wouldn't know where it is now...
Fermi cards run relatively cool, might just add on a notebook cooler and fix your issue...Jus' Saiyan -
-
I still think it is far more likely in an m17x r3, since there has been lots of innuendo about it since its launch. -
Why the website is horrible? Because when i sent thousands of mails, he was always answering me, some other website didn't answer in the 15mn as him.
I don,t know how the shipping will be, but i just want to receive my gtx^^.
At this moment, it was the only website who accepted my paypal^^.
But anyway, we will see if he can be trusted.
Edit: please, as soon as you will put it on your laptop, can you just say if it's working or not LVNeptune? -
DARCODER - It will be posted as soon as I get home tomorrow.
